The first new studio recordings from Pelt in three years picks up where 2005's Untitled CD leaves off-delivering massive slabs of heavy, all-acoustic drone action. "Waning Crescent" is an ominous workout for three large gongs, rich with overtones and subsonic rumble. "Fire Signs Along the Field" offers a slightly jarring quartet of spare string noise, with Nathan Bowles (Black Twigs, Spiral Joy Band) sitting in on double bass. "Cast Out to Deep Waters" is an immense 30-minute epic in the vein of Empty Bell Ringing in the Sky and Untitled's "I" that fits into the archetypical classics in the Pelt canon. The all-too-brief "Crown of Comets" closes the CD with the chiming, overlapping ring of bells recorded in Virginia's Falls Ridge caves. By now, Jay Reatard should be known to most everyone paying any attention to this whole indie/punk/pop/garage/ shitgaze/blahblahblah. Former front guy for The Reatards and Lost Sounds and current solo sensation, the man is nothing if not prolific. After recording his debut solo LP, 2006's Blood Visions, Reatard released a slew of singles and EPs on labels across the globe; all were pressed in limited quantities and now fetch serious coin on eBay. In The Red is proud to release Singles 06-07-a collection of all his out-of-print material, re-mastered by the Tard himself. It's finally possible to hear these gems in one straight shot, sounding better than ever, without flipping over a pile of seven inch platters. The CD version of Singles 06-07 includes a DVD showcasing some choice live performances of Reatard and his incredible live backing band, the Boston Chinks. The vinyl version is a double-LP housed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve.

Eden Express is a trio comprised of Kip Uhlhorn (Cloudland Canyon), Kelly Uhlhorn, and John David Lovelace. Their debut is a lush, tropical album formed by a decadent love of drink, the non-erotic possibilities of equestrian ownership, and a finely tuned sense of the dark supernatural side of things. It's like castle rock with warm, white sand beaches! While most groups form to play together with recording an eventual if somewhat unnecessary goal, Eden Express was formed to record this album first and to become a band second. That they so wildly succeed is a testament to the magic used and manipulated here. The witchy beauty of Eden Express recalls Pan y Regalis, Charlie and Esdor, and early tropicalia albums. Pour yourself and a friend some cocktails, sit by the pool, and try to become lucid as your bare, tanned forearms grow beyond 17 feet long.
