Imagine if Bruce Springsteen and Martin Rev collaborated on songs for Patti Smith or Catherine Ribeiro. Channeled inner voices are expelled as cave anthems into neon text in Linear A, while bones poke through the skin atop a witch's brew of venomous sludge. Crazy Dreams Band is the urban tribal music that survives whatever "end is nigh" theory you choose. They're jamming this music outside the thunder dome, beneath the planet of the apes, and the day after tomorrow.

Finn. is German singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and fashion designer, Patrick Zimmer who splits his time between Hamburg and London, where he recently found a new home with cinematic music label Erased Tapes ? a conceptualist with the voice of Leonard Cohen on helium. Born in 1977, yet combining influences that span decades, Finn. had to wander through a playground of electronica and low-fi recordings to get here. His third album 'The Best Low-Priced Heartbreakers You Can Own' shows a surprisingly mature and cohesive collection of haunting and mesmerizing songs as a result from his consequential musical progression. Finn. lived, recorded and produced the album over the course of seven months in the catacombs of an old 14th century church underneath the streets of St. Pauli. With this release, Patrick Zimmer prescribed himself a concept album. Finn has supported Jos? Gonz?lez in Berlin as well as Stephan Eicher at two sold out shows at the Olympia in Paris. He will be playing at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjav?k, followed by a 15-date UK tour in late October to promote the album release, supporting label comrade ?lafur Arnalds at unique venues including Oxford's Holywell Music Room and the beautiful Union Chapel in London. An album free of any artificial elements, whose place has been taken by a firework of pompous cymbals, fanfares, strings, trombones and kettledrums. Based on the idea of a theatrical concept, the underlying classical drama is divided into five acts, which define the constellation of the songs and the structure of the record. However its content resembles more closely the original form of a Greek tragedy. ?I will leave this harbour?? he sings, after he symbolically let his dead hero ascend to Mount Olympus, and adds: ??but I will carry on.?

Don't be fooled by the King Diamond-style logo. This liberation of inverted progressive surf rock from psychedelic epithets plays like a fan-fiction account of Dick Dale's meeting with Sonny Sharrock at Amon D??l II's rehearsal space to discuss the "post-rock" epidemic. Unlike so many other instrumental soundtrack bands who employ ho-hum, choose-your-own-adventure tactics, La Otracina sticks to the rails of their own twisting corkscrews and spine-snapping dives. This work does not lend itself to the standardfare apathy of background music. Blood Moon Raiders is its own ride, with its own ticket, and the doors are locked after take-off. Pinch some headphones to your dome and situate the rest of your form into a beanbag as you navigate the fibrous landscape of a black-light poster. The tracks flow from a subtle new-age contingency to violent bouts with Laotian street gangs. Remember to pack a sack lunch and strap on a machete before mounting this electric buck-bot. Don't fret-the intention has always been to crack open your skull or drown you.

Cobra Verde is back with their first original studio disc in five years. Haven't Slept All Year rolls out twelve songs and enough sounds to span four decades of rock-power-pop with monster riffs, bubblegum hooks, analogue synths, and whomp-andstomp beats. The band entered the studio soon after releasing their 2003 powerhouse, Easy Listening. It proved to be Cobra Verde's most successful disc to date, spawned three US tours and inspired raves, smiles, bloodshot eyes, and drunken stupors across the country. One problem. When prepared to record the follow-up, they didn't want to do what so many bands would: repeat themselves and devolve into formula. So they recorded a covers disc- Copycat Killers (Scat, 2005)-and used songs such as "Get the Party Started" or "Play With Fire" as guinea pigs to explore new sounds and styles. Little did they know that what started as an experiment would also lead them to recording a cover of Foreigner's "Waiting for a Girl Like You" for The O.C. as well as an appearance on the show. The experiment eventually led to their latest, Haven't Slept All Year, all over the map in terms of sound and style. It opens with a badass riff, then detours into wounded singalongs, glittery pop, blue moods, and raging, glorious rock. And yet it never loses its way: it's idiosyncratic and identifiable as only Cobra Verde can be. Mixed by John Agnello (Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Nebula and Dinosaur Jr.)
