NO COMPLY - 'ITS GETTING HOT'

Formats
  • 43GONE - 7"
    N/A
Details

It's Getting Hot from Memphis's No Comply is a ferocious debut based in brutal '80s / '90s hardcore like Copout and Born Against. These recordings feature Angry Bob, ex-Deathreat, on bass, a spot currently occupied by Joe T, ex-Rat Traps. Drummer Tony was in Left For Dead and Blank Is Born. South by Southwest appearances and regional shows have built an underground buzz in hardcore circles. Frontman Matt "Pappy" Johnson revists a vocal attack worthy of John Brannon (Negative Approach, Laughing Hyenas, Easy Action), guaranteed to run off cute-punks and their mall-clothed friends at every show. For those who can't keep their fingers away from the sockets...

Formats
  • 51GONE - 7"
    N/A
Details

Cents is a teaser single for Ty Segall's upcoming Goner Records fulllength, Lemons. The three-track seven-inch features exclusive versions not available elsewhere. Segall is a Bay Area up-and-comer aligned with Oh Sees / Sic Alps axis "Ty Segall is a phenomenon in a bite-size package. He plays guitar and drums, and howls like a wolf in awe of the moon. His boyish good looks, sky-blue eyes, and fever shakes may make you swoon, but it's his lustrous croons and garage rock songs awash in boisterous distorted noise that will make you take notice." -SF Chronicle "Crazed Safe as Milk thump-and-stomp..." -Self-Titled Daily

Details

Jerry Lloyd's indigenous music recordings documenting 10 years of travel (1998-2008) through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, India, Morocco, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sumatra & Bali. Includes detailed liner notes for each track. The title "Jalan Jalan" is Indonesian. It literally means "road road". It is used when asked "Where are you going?", which is quite common in Indonesia and not considered rude or intrusive. However, if you don't want to give the details, you just respond with "Jalan Jalan" which amounts to something close to "here and there".

VARIOUS - 'WEST COAST POST ASIATIC'

Formats
  • URCK2019 - LP
    N/A
Details

The term Post Asiatic may come across as another ridiculous entry in the dictionary of contemporary sub-genre music but the name is the most appropriate encapsulation for what has easily become the most interesting musical movement in nearly twenty years. Due to space limitations the West Coast Post Asiatic compilation fails to include the majority of artists on the Western Coast of the US who focus on or dabble in Asian/Eastern influenced avant-garde art. However; it offers a glimpse into the fierce beauty and embracing expressionism these artists are conveying. The compilation includes work from Amps for Christ, Soriah, hop-frog's drum jester devotional, Auto Da Fe, Sikhara & Refrigerator Mothers with sound that travels from electric sitars & winding guitars to tribal animalistic percussion, cyclic dron-e chanting, gamelan-esque free-spasm metal percussion to dreamy Chinese dulcimers and moon guitars. The marble vinyl is limited to just 500 we're getting 20.

TELEVISION PERSONALITIES - 'FUNNY HE NEVER MARRIED'

Formats
  • GVR2-7 - 7"
    N/A
Details

What can one expect from an artful, aging mod? Cult favourites, the Television Personalities, offer up two new, well crafted, melodic and spirited pop songs on this 7". Both sides are steeped in the charming intelligence and humour of the band's aurteur Daniel Treacy. In "My New Tattoo," Treacy lays out his aged and vulnerable self and builds into a Who-like reverie of take me for what I am! Here the band is focused, direct, and in top form. A rocking, rallying call to those who may never quite fit in and know its for the better! Drumming is provided by John Bennett who fans will recognize as an original member dating back to the mid-70s and who also appeared on the John Peel favoured first single, "14th Floor/ Oxford St. W1." "Funny He Never Married" paints a wistful and reflective mood of which Treacy has always been a master of conveying. This is a sound which has launched so many bands and scenes; all of whom owe Daniel Treacy a nod (or a wink) for inspiration. Sensitive and personal, yet utterly familiar and comforting in spirit.
