ELECTRIC EELS - 'EYEBALL OF HELL'

Details

With the reissue of the 7", it would seem foolish not to resolicit this: as well as the vinyl being repressed, cd being restocked, this the time to reappraise this seminal band! 23 tracks on the cd, and 27 on the lp tracks have never been on vinyl before, ever. only original tapes were used in this compilation (not true of "god says fuck you" or "their organic majesty's..."). the vinyl issue was edited and mastered entirely in the analog domain, is pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl and housed in a full color gatefold jacket. cover art by lead guitarist john morton. both formats include the lyrics plus liner notes by john morton, brian mcmahon and paul marotta. while bto and grand funk ruled the airwaves, the electric eels confronted the cities of cleveland and columbus, ohio with clothing held together with rat traps and safety pins, marshalls covered in fiberglas, a lawnmower, and songs like "you're full of shit." the eels' music was unabashedly confrontational, angry, absurd, desperate, self-destructive and very ahead of its time. they played abrasive three chord rock songs, songs of utter despair as well as free improvisations. they were beaten by police, each other and themselves. this is pretty much an essential collection, kicking off with agitated!!

SHIT AND SHINE - 'BASS PUPPY'

Formats
  • BM0022 - 12"

Details

2 long tracks wherein the Shit & Shine aesthetic is applied to that of the Dub-Step (?) genre. Think the "loop-iness" & humor of Strangulated Beat-offs mixed with the more future-primitive, cybernetic, percussive interludes found on FNU Ronnies' 'Golem Smoke', then hit it with a couple ecstasy pills and BOOM: BASSS! PUPPPPY! yeah....STRAP THIS ON!!

THE DEAD C - 'CLYMA EST MORT / TENTATIVE POWER'

Formats
  • BING066 - 2LP & CD
    600197006610
Details

Following the 2008 release of a pair of double-LPs, Ba Da Bing continue their Dead C reissue project with two new records. Relegated to expensive fodder for eBay bidders until now, Clyma Est Mort can be considered The Dead C's "Ed Sullivan moment," except it wasn't performed live on network TV-it was recorded in a practice room in Port Chalmers, NZ, in 1992 with the inestimable Tom Lax of Siltbreeze as the sole member of the audience. Since the goal was to make a "fake bootleg" album for release on the mythical Proletariat Idiots Productions label-and in honor of the 13th Floor Elevators (often overlooked as an influence)-the band dubbed in fake audience noise from a gig by the Renderers. Despite the deliberate incompetence with which this was accomplished, Clyma is often touted as a "live album." This is only true in the sense that the band members were alive when they made it. This double-LP reissue includes Tentative Power, a collection of non-album tracks many consider among the band's best moments.

Tracks

Disc 1 ? Clyma Est Mort: 1. Sunshine / Dirt for Harry 2. Sky 3. Electric
4. Power 5. Highway 6. Ein Kampf, Ein Seig 7. World 8. Das Fluten
Disc 2 ? Tentative Power: 1. Hell Is Now Love 2. Bone 3. Mighty 4. Power

THE DEAD C - 'MAX HARRIS'

Formats
  • BING067 - LP
    600197006719
Details

Max Harris captures the first recordings The Dead C ever made, back in January 1987. Each side displays a different and uniquely raw version of "Max Harris"-reinterpreted both times by a group who can truly say they have never played the same song in any form the same way twice. Anyone who doesn't own one of the original 21 cassette tapes made of these recordings will be hearing them together for the first time. Yes, they've never been on vinyl before, so maybe one can even say this is the tracks' first "real" release. You will be able to feel the slicing tension and drive right through your bones. ? Max Harris: The band's earliest recordings, originally released in an edition of 21 in 1987 ? Both LPs stickered w/ descriptions

LOWER DENS - 'I GET NERVOUS'

Formats
  • GONG016 - 7"
    N/A
Details

**NOW SIGNED TO ONE OF THE DOMINO EMPIRE: GET IN QUICK BEFORE THEY STEAL THIS!!"I Get Nervous" is the lead single off Twin-Hand Movement, the upcoming record by Jana Hunter's new band Lower Dens. "I Get Nervous" starts in a nebulous, weird place. It's a good half-minute of straight, building disorientation before the guitars swell, making room for the kind of solid drumbeat that you will never want to stop listening to: steady hi-hat, the snare and kick patiently tick-tocking. Guitars wash over everything and the overdriven bass keeps time with the cymbal, a strummed guitar now announces each measure, and by the time Hunter's voice finally drops like soft water out of the sky, you're floating on it. "In the same rich path, you and I align," goes one of the lines. It could very well be about the song itself. Its three and a half minutes never feel like enough. "Johnssong" follows a simple, if tense, narrative down a doo-wop road until the bottom drops and it suddenly veers into looping, perfectly suited guitar squall that escalates in thick shrieking layers before it finally crests, parting, making clear that sun-filled, awkward alley once again. The track features incredible harmonies between Lower Dens' female and male voices. "I Get Nervous" was recorded by Chris Freeland (Beat Babies, Baltimore), mixed by Chris Coady (DNA, NYC), and mastered by Sarah Register (The Lodge, NYC). "Johnssong" was recorded and mixed by Freeland at Beat Babies, Baltimore. Twin-Hand Movement will be released on June 22nd by Gnomonsong.

THE WHINES - 'HELL TO PAY'

Formats
  • MEDSV - LP
    N/A
Details

THE WHINES transcend the lo-fi tag with real, honest songs that are not hipster genre exercises or an act of desperate trend hopping. Hell To Play is a major leap forward in fidelity and songwriting from their 7-inch. Anchored by KARIANNE's hypnotic voice and basslines and colored by JESSE's raw guitar and BOBBY's primitive drumming. Tracks were recorded alternately by ROB & ROD from EAT SKULL with one track recorded by KYLE from METH TEETH/MEERCAZ and two tracks recorded by the band. This LP brings to mind things like Neil Young, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Dead Moon and Cheater Slicks filtered through contemporary ears/minds. Sequenced like a classic album with moody rock songs, melted psych garage tunes and strange, haunting heartbreakers. Play this over and over. You will be rewarded.
