AT LAST! In The Red is proud to announce the release of the new full-length from San Francisco's Fresh and Onlys, Play It Strange. After two albums (on Castle Face and Woodsist, respectively) and too many singles and EPs to count, The Fresh and Onlys deliver their most solid outing yet. Recorded by studio whiz Tim Green during an eight-day session, Play It Strange marks the band's first recording in an actual recording studio. On two-inch analog tape! The results are nothing short of incredible. For those unfamiliar with The Fresh and Onlys, their sound draws from jangly psychedelia, Morricone-style Western twang, dark vibes ? la Bad Seeds / Gun Club, melodic '60s sunshine pop and a hint of garage rock swagger. While this disparate list may look strange on paper, it makes perfect sense when you hear it. Play It Strange is the sound of a band that has ingested a wide range of rock 'n' roll influences from nearly every genre and sub-genre to come up with something fresh and immensely enjoyable. "... shambles barefoot through Summer of Love-style guitar and tambourine jams, strewing lyrical oddities and flower garlands along the path that leads, if not to where Syd Barrett lives, at least to Dan Treacy's neighborhood." -Dusted

Press

UK PR by Goldstar (Yeasayer / SWANS): Reviews confirmed in MOJO, Uncut.

?[T]he Fresh and Onlys traffic in jangly garage-pop, balancing psychrock
swagger with generous dollops of sweetly cockeyed melody.
Their recordings are lovingly caked with crud, and their jams sometimes
veer perilously close to derailing completely, which might seem
to lump them in with other San Francisco psych revivalists like Thee
Oh Sees and Sic Alps. But the Fresh and Onlys are set apart by an endearingly
fussy devotion to songcraft and an understated and unfakeable
weirdness.? ?Pitchfork

Codes In The Clouds, the quintet of Morahan, Peeling, Smith, Major and Power from Dartford, Kent have found a firm place in the vast growing instrumental rock scene. With their harmonious and blissful sound they weave guitar melodies, liable to explode any minute. If you still can't imagine intense music without vocals then you will be surprised how easily these boys will let you forget this prejudice. Energetic and charming at once, surprising and unpredictable at all times. October 18th, 2010 will see the release of a remix album entitled 'Paper Canyon Recycled' featuring the likes of Paul Mullen (The Automatic), Tom Hodge, Maybeshewill, Worriedaboutsatan, Machinefabriek and Library Tapes ? not to mention contributions from label mates Rival Consoles and Nils Frahm. Paper Canyon Recycled stemmed from an open call, giving fans and fellow artists the opportunity to submit a remix of CITC's 2009 debut album release Paper Canyon. The band received over 100 track submissions. The skills of one particular entrant, Brighton-based producer and musician Guy Andrews (iambic), impressed the band so much that they have invited him to produce their next studio album at Brighton Electric in September. And as if this wasn't enough good news for this young producer, Factotum Films in Scotland shot a spellbinding music video for his remix of Distant Street Lights to coincide with this release (Preview it here: http://www.vimeo.com/14729869). Having received so many wonderful renditions from all around the world, CITC and Erased Tapes want to give something back. Every remix album sold will help Friends Of The Earth's vital campaigning work for a safe climate and a healthy planet (http://www.foe.co.uk); in collaboration with Fairshare Music UK and Gogoyoko, Iceland. 'Paper Canyon Recycled' will also be printed on 100% recycled eco-board and include a Download Code for 5 Exclusive Bonus Tracks. Autumn 2010 is set to propel CITC onto the international music radar being one of a very few UK acts invited to perform at Iceland Airwaves 2010. Codes In The Clouds will join fellow label artists ?lafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm and Rival Consoles as part of an Erased Tapes label night at the event. Performing on Saturday October 16 at I?n?, a beautiful old theatre venue, the band will showcase new material taken from their upcoming album release as well as two of the remixes live. PETER BRODERICK - 'MUSIC FOR CONTEMPORARY DANCE'

Formats
  • ERATP026LP - 2 X 10"

Details

Peter Broderick is like the Swiss Army Knife of musicians ? compact, elegant and multi-instrumental. What sets him apart is his restraint. With an arsenal of talents at his disposal, he prefers to reveal only one or two at a time. Born January 20, 1987, he grew up in a small town in Oregon. Coming from a musical family, he started violin lessons at age 7, and in high school became interested in all different kinds of instruments. He started to play piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, musical saw, and anything else he could find. After high school he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he studied music theory and filmmaking. During this time he began to play in multiple bands and establishing himself as a regular session musician for artists like M. Ward. His big break came in late 2007 when Peter was invited by some of his musical heroes, the Danish band Efterklang, to move to Copenhagen and join the live band. Countless limited releases from homemade tape recordings to The Sunday Times #19 Album of 2008 'Home', established Peter Broderick as the young composer to watch. After endless touring around the world, both as a solo act and with Efterklang, Peter has found a new home in Berlin, where he works side by side with label mate Nils Frahm. Broderick released his first score 'Music for Falling From Trees' on Erased Tapes in 2009. Created for a contemporary dance by London-based choreographer Adrienne Hart (Neon Productions), the 30-minute piece in seven sections received much acclaim, both for its emotive and fitting accompaniment to Hart's choreography and for its ability to work as a self?contained release. The dance tells the story of a man in a psychiatric hospital, and his struggle to maintain his identity. Adrienne was looking for a score of piano and strings, so he left the guitar and his voice aside and focused entirely on those two timbres. 'I decided to take this literally and make a rule not to use any other instrument. In the script it called for the sound of a ticking clock. I made this sound by tapping on the body of the violin with my fingernails.' Falling From Trees toured this year's UK summer festivals Glastonbury and Edinburgh Fringe. In early 2010 Peter Broderick was approached by the collaborative media artist duo Kit Monkman and Tom Wexler aka KMA, who asked him to create a score for Congregation, KMA's most ambitious work to date. The world's first ever ballet designed, choreographed and composed entirely for pedestrian performers, Congregation has been commissioned by Scan and the British Council. Due to premiere simultaneously at Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai as part of World Expo and Bournemouth for the Inside Out Festival, further performances will follow at Tate Britain London this autumn. To coincide with both KMA's and Peter Broderick's string of live performances, Erased Tapes will release a highly limited double 10" gatefold vinyl edition on October 18. Featuring both Music for Falling From Trees and Music for Congregation under the collective title Music for Contemporary Dance, this release will further demonstrate that this young artist at the cusp of his career has already emerged as a composer in his own right.
