Second album of amazing pop from Sore Eros, a split label release, limited vinyl pressing on SHDWPLY, and CD pressing on AGITATED; With Know Touching, Sore Eros have crafted a record that is simultaneously dense and soothingly melodic, fulfilling the considerable promise of their debut, 2009's Second Chants. For this record, the band (Robert Robinson and Adam Langellotti) made a conscious departure from its debut, recording the album direct to a ? inch 8 track reel-to-reel without the aid of computers. From this the band emerged with a record that blooms with melody and innocent joy that bring to mind such similarly spaced out artists as Atlas Sound and Kurt Vile. When patched together, this detailed attention to arrangement and dreamy melodic sensibilities combine to make Know Touching an effortlessly beautiful record. "People said a lot of the songs [on Second Chants] sounded like I was singing from a room down the hall, this time we wanted it to sound like I was whispering in your ear. This began to give the record a little bit of a creepy feel, however Adam's arrangements on the record countered that creepiness with more of a playful and innocent feel" - Robert FIRST 500 CDs come with a bonus disc, featuring 25 minutes of exclusive material. ?The creative power bursting out of Second Chants is surely a sign that this force is not something that can be confined to even a healthy handful of LPs.? ? Tinymixtapes

??If "Shake the Walls" is any indicator, Know Touching may be a further exploration of the psychedelic sounds Sore Eros have been harvesting in Connecticut for a few years, and surely a welcome follow up to the phenomenal Second Chants.? ? Chocolate Bobka

SOUTHER STILL - 'GREAT WILD STREET'

Formats
  • FDRCD001 - CD

Details

Souther Still formed in London in 2001 and their sound has been likened to artists such as Galaxie 500, Grant Lee Phillips, Neil Young and Gram Parsons, and while there is a tip of the hat to those American influences the lyrics are mostly rooted in an albeit slightly dislocated London - an urban folk rock blues. The first Souther Still album, The Open Plan (Fairmount Gas Records), was released in 2003. Despite limited distribution it served to promote the band's early work and built a loyal following. Dizziness and Darkness (Open Plan Records, 2007) showed a strengthening in the writing and led to many favourable reviews in the British and European music press. In 2008, after a change in the band line-up, songwriters Bradley Putze and Kevin Stokes began work on songs for a third album. Seeking to expand the band's eclectic sound, new members and session players were brought in, providing piano, organ, cello and pedal steel. With Great Wild Street (Feed Dog Records), Souther Still have delivered an album of mysterious urban folk blues and live wire Americana, singing of William Blake and the heart's shipwrecks, of London's frayed beauty and the lure of lost highways.

PUJOL - 'BLACK RABBIT / TOO SAFE'

Formats
  • TMR051 - 7"
    N/A
Details

Pujol was raised in Tullahoma, TN where he lived in a haunted house, which sat one block away from the wrong side of the tracks. He spent his formative years scribbling on walls, shredding behind closed doors, and riding around in cars with older kids. He took his first communion at 13 and secretly drank his first beer shortly thereafter in St. Cecilia's bathroom, emerging an identity-inclusive Peter Panentheist. When asked at the tender age of 4 what he wanted to be when he grew up, he responded, "Naked." While Pujol has yet to achieve this particular goal he has made good on several other promises, becoming an accomplished musician, author, and songwriter. He has even dabbled in theatre, playing The Robot in a high school production of The Canterbury Tales. He is also a prominent social critic, shreditorialist, unlicensed metaphysician, and polymathmagician. Some journalists have called Pujol the Philosopher King of the Nashville scene, and while he shies away from such lofty titles and burning windmills, he totally digs the literary allusion, as does his moms. This, his debut 7" for Third Man Records is a youthful pop heavy blast of rock and roll that's full of hooks, shreds, and insightful lyrics. Daniel Pujol is walking strides above his contemporaries and is one of the most exciting prospects in the thriving Nashville scene. Third Man is very proud to release "Black Rabbit" produced by Jack White. Pujol: Daniel Pujol ? Guitar, Vocals Joe Scala ? Bass Sean Thompson ? Lead Guitar Greg Meredith ? Drums Produced by Jack White

SETI-X - 'SCRAMBLES OF EARTH: THE VOYAGER INTERSTELLAR RECORD, REMIXED BY EXTRATERRESTRIALS'

Formats
  • SEELAND532 - CD
    753762053226
Details

In 1977, NASA launched the twin Voyager 1 and 2 spacecrafts, fastening to each a phonograph album containing sounds and music of Earth. In 2010, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in Exile (SETI-X), a dissident offshoot of the better-known Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, received transmissions believed to be extraterrestrial remixes of these records. The Scrambles of Earth CD contains the 70 minutes-in some 24 sound segments-that SETI-X has so far been able to reconstruct. The scientists of SETI-X, finding their colleagues skeptical and their institutions unwilling to vouch for or make available the sounds they had received, at first sought contact with the principality of Sealand, in hopes that this micro-nation dedicated to stewarding controversial data might channel extraterrestrial sounds to a broader public. With no response from Sealand, SETI-X, through a serendipitous Google typo, discovered an ally in Seeland Records, which has historically brokered the release of sounds of uncertain provenance but wide cultural relevance. Scrambles of Earth collects what appear to be "remixes" of the Voyager Record; although the evidence has yet to be fully evaluated, these may represent the first audio signs of alien intelligence. This account may comport with Hartwig Hausdorf's May 2010 claim that the Voyager has been hijacked by aliens, as reported in the UK's Telegraph newspaper: http://www. telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7722455/Aliens-hijack-Nasas- Voyager-2-spacecraft-claims-expert.html
