It's two sides of hi-energy psychedelic punk rock & roll that manages to weld Funhouse's dialed-in sleaze rhythms to the hungover excess of Hendrix at Woodstock. Or Ginn at Polliwog Park. It's full of clanging cymbals, howling vocals, fretboard heroics, and menacing vibes. Purling Hiss is the work of a well-mannered longhair named MIKE POLIZZE, who is best known for his reckless shredding as the guitar player for Philadelphia's BIRDS OF MAYA. Hissteria is a suitable soundtrack for zonked drives across the dead highways of the USA. Or for predawn paranoid sessions as you pace back and forth in the kitchen trying figure out just what the hell you're going to do, man. Or just crank it real loud when the party gets strange. 18 tracks of primo punk rock from Tyvek, recorded on 27th september 2010. "There's a weird intensity to even the most slacked-out of these songs, a sense of impending doom even as singer Boyer mouths tuneless "la la las" and the bass and drums build underneath. Confined rhythms ? the sing-song beat of penultimate cut "What To Do" for instance ? imply a need to escape. Drawling mantras, repeated endlessly, point toward a willingness to tune out. But every once in a while, usually through some sort of guitar experiment, the boxy confines of these songs open out into something spacious and really beautiful. It happens with the Doppler-whining flange late in "What To Do," and with the layers of feedback in the lovely, wistful "Hey Una." It's part of this band's charm that they can remind you of the Fall, the Urinals, Volcano Suns, the Observers and Television Personalities, all within five minutes." DUSTED.

Dex Romweber is an icon of the American rock and roll underground. The former frontman for the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets, which needs no intro here. Dex has long been a force for the cause of rock and roll and is one of the most original and larger than life personalities to come along since the days of Gene Vincent and Little Richard. He's joined in the duo by his sister Sara Romweber who's been smacking drums since way back in bands such as Mitch Easter, Lets Active, and Snatches of Pink. Recorded a year ago...on 4th February 2010.

This deviant rabbit is a big personal favorite of every single person at Third Man. The only thing we may like even more than Nobunny is pizza. But Nobunny and pizza together? Pujol was raised in Tullahoma, TN where he lived in a haunted house which sat one block away from the wrong side of the tracks. He spent his formative years scribbling on walls, shredding behind closed doors, and riding around in cars with older kids. He took his first communion at 13 and secretly drank his first beer shortly thereafter in St. Cecilia's bathroom, emerging an identity-inclusive Peter Panentheist. When asked at the tender age of 4 what he wanted to be when he grew up, he responded, "Naked." While Pujol has yet to achieve this particular goal he has made good on several other promises, becoming an accomplished musician, author, and songwriter. He has even dabbled in theatre, playing The Robot in a high school production of The Canterbury Tales. He is also a prominent social critic, shreditorialist, unlicensed metaphysician, and polymathmagician. Some journalists have called Pujol the Philosopher King of the Nashville scene, and while he shies away from such lofty titles and burning windmills, he totally digs the literary allusion, as does his moms. 6 tracks recorded live on the 21st May 2010.

Sweet Bulbsʼ self-titled debut album is all about intensity. Although on the surface their saccharine pop marinating in warm distortion seems a well-worn combination, the band possesses something that sets them apart from many of their fellow Brooklynites. Guitarist Mike Sheffield provides the perfect foil for Inna Mkrtycheva's vocal melodies, injecting each song with vital discord and dissonance. Ray Weiss hits his drums with a masterful blend of wildness and precision, while Jack Wolfʼs bass adds countermelody and fuzz. This record is loud and forceful, yet nimble and well crafted. As Sweet Bulbs barrels forward the hooks come with headspinning frequency, far outpacing whatever your last favorite band was. There is nothing "chill" about Sweet Bulbs, and thank God for that. LP comes with a full color poster.

After a year and a half of pre-production work with producer Rick Rubin, Howlin Rain found themselves with an overabundance of material and an increasing gap of time between the forecasted release of their forthcoming new album and their previous one, Magnificent Fiend. On the eve of hitting the studio to record number three, the band took ten days to complete this mini-album. It functions as both an introduction to the upcoming full album due in 2011 as well as a piece that stands on its own. Coming off the extended period of writing and rehearsing, Howlin Rain knocked out a high-quality performance off the cuff and against the clock. All three songs were tracked in one evening live in the same room at Lucky Cat Studios by Phil Manley (Trans Am, The Fucking Champs) and then overdubbed and mixed by Tim Green at Louder Studios in a handful of days. The time that elapsed from when the band set up at Lucky Cat until The Good Life was completely finished and mastered was a week and a half. In the midst of a journey to complete an album that will have been years in the making, this 12-inch is a catharsis of immediacy blasted down from that long highway-a postcard from the outer regions the band has navigated for many moons. 1000 COPIES, in thick tip on card stock sleeve.
