TY SEGALL - 'S/T'

Details

BACK IN STOCK!! in time for world falling his feet with his Drag City debut....Fresh from the nostalgically amazing San Francisco punk band, THE TRADITIONAL FOOLS, frontman TY SEAGALL's self-titled album broadens the horizon of punk, paying deserved homage to the roots of rock and roll, while rejuvenating the music for today. As anticipated, the album holds the classic '60s pop-meets-California surf to a fast tempo that pushes the boundaries of punk. While the lo-fi claustrophobia keeps the undercurrent harsh and real, the upbeat melodies and psychedelic, reverb-laden vocals keep it buoyant and hypnotic. Native to Southern California, Ty Segalls' solo project began as an attempt to keep his live performances in tune with his recordings. Segall played in PARTY FOWL, among other popular So-Cal bands, before moving north to San Francisco. Freed of the constraints that multiple members bring to a band, Ty Segall is truly a one-man band: he plays a bass drum with a tambourine duct-taped to the front and a hi hat with his feet, guitar with his hands, and sings simultaneously. The result is a "what you see is what you get" whirlwind of energy, best framed within a house party while under the influence. Released on JOHN DWYER's (OHSEES) Castle Face imprint.

BITCHIN' BAJAS - 'WATER WRACKETS FILM SCORE'

Formats
  • KAL001 - LP / DVD

Details

It appears that the well-guarded secret of the past year is out. Last summer COOPER CRANE of BITCHIN' BAJAS & CAVE was asked to score a remake of the classic short film Water Wrackets (1975) originally directed by legendary British filmmaker, PETER GREENAWAY. Artists/filmmakers GABRIELLE GOPINATH and BENJAMIN FUNKE (Captcha Records) will be releasing the fruits of this project on their new fine art label, Kallistei. After only viewing a 30 second clip of the upcoming film, Cooper composed a wonderfully enlightened vision of this project that would make both Terry Riley and collaborator Bruce Conner to happy to see the torches being passed. It is fascinating to see someone this talented work through the conceptual landscape of a project and create something this beautiful and intriguing. Cooper in the depth of his practice, harmonized perfectly and completely on this recording. Packged in tip-on style gatefold sleeves with DVD and poster included

ATARI TEENAGE RIOT - 'IS THIS HYPERREAL?'

Details

in 1996, alec empire teamed up with the beastie boys to negotiate a label deal between grand royal and digital hardcore recordings for north america. the album, "burn berlin burn" was born. tours with rage against the machine, wu-tang clan and beck swiftly followed. but with the success came tension. every musician has their own way of dealing with it, and atr were extremely intense. very soon the thin line between reality and paranoia started to vanish. when john peel asked atr to play queen elizabeth hall in london in 1999, the band had just released their 3rd and best album, "60 second wipe out", which was mixed with andy wallace (nirvana's "nevermind", slayer). during the song "revolution action", kids stormed the stage and pandemonium descended on the capital. when the berlin quartet played their last show at the big day out festival, australia in 2000 everyone was watching: the red hot chili peppers, nine inch nails, the clash's joe strummer, foo fighters and primal scream on the side of the stage. the band finally dissolved in the wake of mc carl crack's death just days before september 11th 2001. following on from the success of reunion shows in 2010, with new band member cx kidtronik, atr are pleased to announce a brand new studio album due out on 20th june 2011 their incendiary live show is not to be missed, described by the nme as "?a cavalcade of forever-young yelps: a brilliantly nasty volley of universe-shaping techno-metal." the band will be touring worldwide throughout 2011. in the late 90s atari teenage riot (atr) emerged out of the electronica genre to subvert all rules of rock and techno music. the original concept was alec empire's and, when joined by hanin elias, nic endo and carl crack on stage, the mixed race, mixed sex image of the band provoked people before they even heard the music. the seminal band was too radical in its views and statements and simply too loud and noisy to fit in neatly inside any genre, with hanin screaming about police violence and revolution, atr opened many doors for female artists to follow at the time. listen to blood in my eyes here: http://soundcloud.com/alec_empire/atari-teenage-riot-blood-in-my

THE WHITE STRIPES - 'LETS SHAKE HANDS'

Formats
  • TMR088 - 7"

Details

Amazingly, these records still blow the roof off, reissues of the first two White Stripes singles, originally released in another millennium, lets hear what Wiki say: ""Let's Shake Hands" is the debut 7" single of Detroit-based American garage rock band The White Stripes. It was released in March 1998, and marks their first recording. A live recording of the song is featured on Under Blackpool Lights as well as Under Great White Northern Lights. "Let's Shake Hands" showcases the early garage punk sound of the band in its infancy. The single is backed with a cover of "Look Me Over Closely," a song written for Marlene Dietrich by folk musician Terry Gilkyson. The first edition was 500 copies on clear red vinyl.[1] A second edition of 1,000 copies was pressed on black vinyl in 2002. The cover for this repressing was a better quality version of the original photo. There was a "secret" third pressing in 2008 with a stenciled version of the original cover art by Dion Fischer. It was pressed on black vinyl and 1,000 hand-numbered copies were produced. Highly coveted among diehard fans, this 7" remains one of the rarest and priciest items in The White Stripes' entire discography." Exactly.. a very essential reissue...
