GLITTER WIZARD - 'SOLAR HITS'

AGGWIZ1 - LP

Details
Glitter Wizard's debut LP follows up their "Black Lotus" single with more cosmic heaviness, taking all the aspects of their music even further out. While it lives up to the Hawkwind-meets-Sabbath comparison frequently applied to the band, Solar Hits also showcases Glitter Wizard's diversity with brutally-direct metal riffage, spaced-out feedback and electronics, straight-ahead garage punk, free-styling improv mayhem, and even progressive sax/flute/violin interplay (with a guest performance by STEVE MACKAY) while remaining one cohesive rock record. Although it's not possible for an audio recording to show the band's over-the-top glam stage look (Youtube "Snow Crash" for a dose of that), the album unquestionably gives a feel for the irresistible fun of the Glitter Wizard live experience, while adding layers of psychedelic goodness that can only come from time and effort in the studio. And at its core, beyond stylistic considerations, the album demonstrates solid, compelling songwriting from singer Wendy Stonehenge and his band (including underground veteran Doug "Graves", who's worked with Nothing People, Liquorball, Monoshock, etc.). Insert, download card, limited to 450 copies and totally great!

Details
Straight outta Detroit comes a new Blue Series 7" from high flying DIY electro genius and self-described weirdo, Duane The Teenage Weirdo. Pop music in Depression-era 2012 doesn't come any more legit then in Duane's capable hands. Both tracks, "Postcard From Hell" and "Bubblegum Encore" are the sound of Detroit pared down to a hard beat, feral vocals, synth stabs and real dance intent which all makes Duane our second favorite Detroiter to call himself a streetwalking cheetah.

TOM JONES - 'EVIL / JEZEBEL'

Details
Third Man Records is very proud to announce a very special never thought it would happen in our wildest dreams 7" single with the one and only Tom Jones. Produced by Jack White III at his Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN. Sir Tom laid down two searing tracks full of dangerous swagger, blues braggadocio and those heartfelt soulful vocal stylings that have knocked em dead for generations. Mr. Jones is a possessed man unleashed on his version of the Howlin Wolf classic "Evil". Backed by an 8 piece band comprised of the finest heavy hitters on the Nashville scene including Jack White, Patrick Keeler (The Raconteurs), Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket) and more; he wails, grunts, cajoles and purrs all the way through this 5 minute stomper. We can't remember black cat voodoo blues ever sounding so good! The wonderful flip on this platter that matters is a new take on the Frankie Lane hit "Jezebel" (which has famously been performed by Edith Piaf and Anna Calvi). Tom takes it to new heights here, his voice soaring and guiding the harp led backing band taking this classic tune to places it's never been. It's absolutely lovely.

LOST SOUNDS - 'LOST SOUNDS'
Formats
75GONE - 7"
Details
Lost Sounds' self-titled debut 7-inch is the first release from the potent team of Jay Reatard and Alicja Trout and was originally on the legendary Italian garage scum label Solid Sex Lovie Doll in a numbered edition of 300. The EP's got four songs of aggressive synth-punk in the tradition of The Screamers with enough raw edges to still cut deep. Remastered from the original cassette, these recordings' new power and (relative) clarity stomp all over the original 7-inch with frightening intensity. Limited to 500 copies.
