Details

Following on from Olafur Arnalds' critically acclaimed dance score 'Dyad 1909' (2009) for the internationally renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor, now come two dance pieces in the shape of 'Two Songs For Dance'. It will be released as a 1000 copies Ltd. Edition 7" Vinyl including High Quality Download on August 13th via Erased Tapes. This limited edition single captures two exciting tracks for two dance projects. The first 'Endalaus II' was created for 'Endalaus' by Norwegian Choreographer Alan Lucien ?yen, commissioned and performed by the Iceland Dance company. Fans will recognise the track as one of the highlights from ?lafur's recent live shows, creating an emotional punch against the classical strings. 'For Teda', the second song is for London-based company Neon Dance and part of choreographer Adrienne Hart's on-going project 'Archived'it'. It brings forward a new concept in online interaction by allowing anyone to create their own version of 'Dance on Steps', a dance film featuring dance and mime student Teda de Moor from 1934. Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsb?r, a few kilometers outside of Reykjav?k, the 25-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. Through relentless touring and determination this young artist has steadily gained recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut Eulogy for Evolution. ?lafur Arnalds' second full-length album ...and they have escaped the weight of darkness, continues his mission to lure an indie-generation of pop and rock fans into an emotive world of beguiling electronic chamber music and delicate classical arrangements. After recently having supported Ryuichi Sakamoto throughout Germany, ?lafur will return to London as part of the 'Erased Tapes 5th Anniversary Tour' on October 18, 2012.

MOUTHBREATHERS - 'DIE ALONE / VALIDATION'

Formats
  • RR003 - 7"
    N/A
Details

MOUTHBREATHERS follow-up 7-inch to the In The Red Records release of the "Anxiety / The Creeper" single is said by many to be their most expansive song to date, and that is not because "Die Alone" clocks in at 5 minutes plus. Bleak arrangements over pulsing dead panned drums, slither their way underneath KYLE GOWDY's aching vocals. The song slides along like a dark cloud until it finally explodes into an all out rage. Flip it over and you got "Validation," a surf influenced number by land-locked Lawrence, KS boys, where their idea of "surfing" is ghost riding a stolen motorcycle into a tire fire. Enjoy.

THE ENTRANCE BAND - 'FINE FLOW'

Formats
  • SPIRITUAL005 - 12"

Details

As The Entrance Band approaches a decade of creative activity, its three musicians swiftly and freely charge forward like a carved, finely etched stream? a "Fine Flow," if you will. The group's most recent EP showcases the wellrehearsed trio in their finest and most diverse form yet on four instrumental tracks. Together, Paz Lenchantin, Derek James and Guy Blakeslee put forth a thousand points of light that leave the listener blinded in burning bliss. Commander (and producer) Farmer Dave Scher steers The Entrance Band ship on their latest expedition in a career that never rests on the waves of popular culture. The trio maps its own stargazing charts, and these four songs serve as a hitchhikers guide to their unexplored but still familiar universe. Each track on Fine Flow is a journey, ranging from the controlled urgency of the title track to the meandering exploration of "Summertime," with its layers of guitar that seem to stop time in a steam of pure but subtle heat. "In the Key of Sea" floats until the wave that carries it crests and breaks; "Hands in the Shape of a Wave" introduces a deft, measured saxophone to illicit its watery and glistering tone. Together these four sublime tracks are the soundtrack of both escape and possibility. The Entrance Band is not interested in repetition. They revel in discovery, and this limited-edition Spiritual Pajamas 12-inch EP will leave you surfing "The Key of Sea" for many, many waves to come.

THE LEGS - 'AAAA THE NEW MEMPHIS LEGS'

Formats
  • 87GONE - LP

Details

Blood and beer-encrusted recordings from the epochal year 2000: Once mammoth Texas guitar noisemaker James Arthur moved from Los Angeles to Memphis and began hanging out with local roustabout Eric "Oblivian" Friedl, The Legs were inevitable. The two filled their days drinking whiskey and beer, searching for pinball machines, riding mountain bikes through broken glass and rabid-dog-filled uncharted alleys, and enjoying spontaneous dance parties which mostly consisted of wearing out copies of the "Quick Joey Small" 45. When they could be bothered to actually play music, they jammed away on a chord or three. They thought they might be onto something, but couldn't really tell what it was. Bassists were not consulted. All this time, drummer Forrest Hewes of Oxford, Mississippi's Neckbones was quietly living a few blocks away from Friedl; once his massive drums were planted behind their wall of scuzz, The Legs knew they had truly arrived. With a setlist of Australian garage thudders from the Ugly Things compilation, a mutant two-chord Doug Sahm song and simple, intense originals, The Legs were a short-lived, yet highly entertaining Memphis club favorite, playing alongside Reatards, Jeffrey Evans and other Memphis talents of the time. There were two recording sessions- one captured by Jeffrey Evans with Jay Reatard on organ that yielded the track "I've Been Raped (By the Pinball Machine)" for a Pinball song compilation, and the other done in Jody Hill's living room, which is issued here in its entirety.

YOKO ONO, KIM GORDON, THURSTON MOORE - 'YOKOKIMTHURSTON'

Formats
  • CHIM010 - CD
    616892070146
Details

What we have here is a New York City avant garde convergence at its finest. The idea of a meeting between Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore is so perfect, so obvious, the only shock is that it didn't happen earlier. Recorded last year at Manhattan's Sear Sound, the album features lead vocals by Yoko, with backing vocals and guitars by Kim and Thurston. It's a wild collision of song-form, poetics, free-rock and classic glossolalic ecstasy. Yoko has not allowed herself to sound this raw since the earliest recordings of the Plastic Ono Band. There's a remarkably empathic and comfortable quality to the sound. The three communicate as though they'd been playing together forever.

Tracks

1. I Missed You Listening
2. Running The Risk
3. I Never Told You, Did I?
4. Mirror Mirror
5. Let's Get There
6. Early In The Morning

KIASMOS - 'THROWN EP (FALTYDL REMIX)'

Formats
  • ERATP044LP - 12" & DL
    4050486079300
Details

?lafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen's collaborative project Kiasmos continues to spread Icelandic techno with new Thrown EP featuring remixes by FaltyDL and 65daysofstatic. After having revealed the title track Thrown via XLR8R in April, Kiasmos announce the release of their Thrown EP featuring brand new track Wrecked and two guest remixes by FaltyDL ? one of New York's finest electronic producers ? and UK's industrial post rock pioneers 65daysofstatic in the form of a 12" Vinyl/Download on Erased Tapes. A1: THROWN ?lafur explains: 'Thrown is the first track of the "New Kiasmos", so to speak. Actually, Thrown is kind of a remix of a new ?lafur Arnalds track that hasn't even been released yet.' 'It has become the track that we use as a reference for all our newer stuff', adds Janus. A2: THROWN (FALTYDL REMIX) 'Remixing used to be a very special thing. Not so much anymore. And when you're done, it will end up as a free download and most likely not on vinyl. It's bullshit. So when I get the opportunity to make an actual record, an object that will last longer then any of us, I jump on it. I have pleasures in my life. Doing this remix was one of them', says Drew Lustman aka FaltyDL. B1: WRECKED Janus: 'I don't really know what we were thinking when we started working on Wrecked.' 'Wrecked is our experiment with a new Doepfer synth. The song is severely out of tune', adds ?lafur. B2: WRECKED (65DAYSOFSTATIC REMIX) 'It was quite a challenging remix to do, because it's such a minimal, understated track. The usual 65 approach of pulling out key refrains and messing with them didn't work because the bass is such a unique, dark sound. Likewise, I was reluctant to add too much new material because each attempt at that quickly veered into writing what sounded like a new song. Too many remixes these days are done to provide quick and easy bonus tracks for artists to giveaway, which is a shame, because when done properly, I think a remix is a great way to see a track you're familiar with as a listener in a new way', explains Paul Wolinski of 65daysofstatic. Janus: 'I'm really excited about the remixes. They are both very different from each other and give the songs a new life. It's always great fun to hear someone make the tracks their own.'
