YOGA - 'SKINWALKER'

Formats
  • HOLY10201967 - LP

Details

Holy Mountain is pleased to issue Yoga's Skinwalker on vinyl, making it widely available for the first time after having being released only on stupidly limited cassettes and split CDs. "Yoga takes the lo-fi practice-space recordings of the grimmest of the black metal outfits and combines it with the murky, muddy, noise-drenched blur of bands like Wold. But then takes it even further, rendering their sound so muted and lo-fidelity that even when they're blasting furiously, it still sounds like a busted music box or an old black metal 78. And then there's the fact that Yoga spends a good amount of their time not blasting blackly, but instead crafting synth-heavy Goblin-style film music, all throbbing bass and buzzing synths, creepy minor-key melodies and tons of haunting ambience. Those songs too are wreathed in a foggy, night-on-the-moors sort of murk, which ties those songs closely to the more blackened ones. "The strange combination of grim and Goblin, the tripped-out fucked-up recording quality, the damaged arrangements, the looped hypnotic quality, turn Yoga into something totally out there, most likely way too abstract and psychedelic and deliriously lo-fi to appeal to folks looking for grim, buzzing blackness, but for the rest of you, if you can try to imagine some impossible mix of Philip Jeck, Wold, Goblin, the Skaters and some of the super weird EEE Records unblack bands, all produced by John Maus and Ariel Pink, then you will flip for this." -Aquarius

NATURAL SNOW BUILDINGS - 'NIGHT COERCION INTO THE COMPANY OF WITCHES'

Night Coercion Into the Company of Witches is the first domestic release by France's mythic Natural Snow Buildings, a band revered in experimental music circles despite self-releasing most of their albums in ridiculously limited runs. The original Night Coercion... CD from 2008 was an edition of only 22 copies, so finally, the intense music that Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte create on these tracks can be widely heard and appreciated. Fans of Popol Vuh raga drones, Flying Saucer Attack distorted bliss, The Dead C's intuitive chaos, and Islaja's oblique folk, take note. Natural Snow Buildings make melodic, orchestrated, droning compositions with layers of guitars, chants, woodwinds, percussive bells, distortion and delay. On Night Coercion Into the Company of Witches, they push to extremes, producing layers of stereophonic sound both nuanced and grandiose. This record is the ideal introduction to the band's sound, building harmonies upon noise upon harmonies, and providing a clear explanation as to why their albums (even the ones that aren't so limited) sell out so immediately upon release. For the Ba Da Bing release of Night Coercion Into the Company of Witches, there are two physical formats. Like the original version, the album is available as a three-CD set, this time at the low price of a single CD release. Additionally, the limited four-LP box set has a new mixing job, done by the band to fit the record's new vinyldom. Digital download with vinyl purchase

ALIEN BALLROOM - 'ZERO PAC A.D.'

Details

Say hello to The Alien Ballroom, the combination previously known as Koolaid (Global Tyranny). "Huh?" you may think, "What has happened to Koolaid???" Let's be perfectly clear about this: there is a current market glut of "koolaids". The group, therefore, have sensibly altered their nomenclature and are henceforth known as The Alien Ballroom. You may recall Agitated Records "I'm So Convoluted" compilation - or you may not. Rest assured friends, there is guaranteed conceptual continuity here. On their new Agitated Records long player Zero PAC A.D. the mystrionic Alien Ballroom plant their seeds and pitch their balls on the lush interzone betwixt the vintage and the cutting-edge to create a seven song album that fuses Atomic Age pop foppery with Neolithic year-zero sanguinity. Aficionados of their previous releases will find much to enjoy in this new recording - or perhaps they won't. Frankly, it vexes the band not. Of course, we really should have made some mention that this album is "song based" and not just relentless "space-rock-riff-battery" - is it as weird and leftfield as the Koolaid album? Probably not ...or maybe it is. Very different but very similar perhaps ? we will leave it up to you. Brand new! 7 tracks on 12" vinyl! comes with a DL postcard..you can actually see members of the band in song making pose on the sleeve... Side one, is one long track that pretty much sets out the M.O from the get go.. you will shake, you will shiver, you will want to play it over and over and over to work out why it has taken over your life..but look out, theres 6 tracks on the other side that will equally blast your mind.. heres the rub, its NOTHING like the Koolaid 12", but really, its just like the Koolaid 12"... we could list a load of bands you might like also..but thats irrelevant.. its loud, its nasty, it will make you dance oddly, you will go and see them play live.... 500 copies only..
