*BACK IN STOCK* Sharon Van Etten came to Brooklyn via Jersey via Tennessee via Jersey. Along the way, she sang in choirs, rejected her school's music program, worked at an all-ages venue, trained as a sommelier and got a full time job at a record label. She also had a few bad experiences in relationships. More than a few. Epic, Van Etten's second album, lays a romantic melancholy lining over the gravel and dirt of heartbreak, without one honest thought or feeling spared. She sings of betrayal, obsession, egotism and all the other emotions we hate in others and recognize in ourselves. Van Etten's grounded and clenched vocals convey the sense of hope--the notion that beauty can come out of the worst of circumstances. Epic is indeed that beauty. The album was recorded at Miner Street Studios in Philadelphia with Brian McTear. Where Van Etten's first record, Because I Was in Love, explored her thoughts on love through minimalism and sparseness, Epic embellishes her music to grandiose luminosity. She supplements guitar and vocals with drums, piano, lap steel and a trio of backing vocalists--Meg Baird (Espers), Cat Martino and Jessica Larrabee (She Keeps Bees)--for a fully realized album that astounds as it elucidates, disturbs as it soothes. The final track, "Love More," has already been covered live in a collaborative effort by Bon Iver and The National. NEW ALBUM ON JAG JAGUWAR looks set to be one of the Albums of 2012!

RESOLICITATION!!!! Introducing Emily and her Faves. On electric guitar and vocals is song writer, artist and quirky front girl, Emily. Her faves on drums and bass supply the backbones to her catchy psych-pop melody frilled songs in a heady 60's mix up. Emily & the Faves have just launched their self titled debut album, which gracefully pockets up a collection of their best songs, that Faves fans all over have been eagerly awaiting since their first tours in 2008. Introduced by Tom Robinson Radio 6 & live sessions on local radio. You can catch them at Rebellion Festival and Fire on the Mountain, their UK tour starts in September.. This is an outstanding debut album some great pop songs on here, definitely in the vein of the classic British Indie Pop sound of the late 80s, like The Primitives, Darling Buds, We Are Going To Eat You etc; and with a really great swathe of late 60's psychedelic pop (Jefferson Airplane / etc), yet still modern and fresh sounding. Folky, Psychedelic Pop that will keep the Summer going... Emily also plays guitar in Stealing Sheep.

NOW AVAILABLE ON CD format!!! Grass Widow-Hannah Lew (bass, vocals), Raven Mahon (guitar, vocals) and Lillian Maring (drums, vocals)- write their hypnotic, layered melodies collaboratively. Their haunting songs, rich in metaphor and couched in reference and allusion, are mined from the personal narratives of each member. Vocal duties, shared equally all around, complete the overall sensibility. Grass Widow has no front-person, and offers a musical experience not based on celebrity or spectacle. In line with these principles, they have maintained their objective of playing age- and genderinclusive shows since their formation. Grass Widow formed in 2007; their first release was a self-titled LP on San Francisco's Make a Mess Records in 2009, followed by a 12-inch EP on Captured Tracks and their second full-length, Past Time, which came out in 2010 on Kill Rock Stars. The band has toured Europe and China, and recently started their own record label, HLR. The ready-steady build for Grass Widow is representative of their music and overall band aesthetic, and it reaches a new high point with the release of Internal Logic, their third album. "The San Fran phenom Grass Widow inspires as its pastoral harmonies float effortlessly over trellises of spindly guitars." -The New Yorker

PUBLIC NUISANCE - 'GOTTA SURVIVE'

Details

Unreleased for over 20 years, this masterpiece of American, late-Sixties garage rock is now widely available on vinyl and iTunes for the first time ever. Produced by Eirik Wangberg and overseen by Terry Melcher, the Sacramento-based Public Nuisance laid down gritty, baroque psychedelia that was too hard for the hippies and too poppy for the punks The end result is the perfect amalgam of all that was great about the era. The album was shelved after the Manson Family murders took place at the home Melcher had leased to Roman Polanski. In the aftermath, all of Melcher's projects at the time were shelved and "Gotta Survive" suffered that unfortunate fate. Released by Frantic Records in 2002 and out-of-print for quite some time, Third Man presents "Gotta Survive" with new artwork and mastered directly from the original two-track analog masters by Ron McMaster (the band's drummer!) at Capitol Mastering in Hollywood, CA. Comes with MP3 download code for the entire album.
