This their debut album marks a coming of age for The DomNicks. Forged by Perth based Dom Mariani (Stems / DM3) and Nick Sheppard (Clash), the band is a powerful blend of swagger 'n' roll rock, soul and pop smarts. Super Real marks a coming of age for The DomNicks. Forged by Perth based Dom Mariani and Nick Sheppard, the band is a powerful blend of swagger 'n' roll rock, soul and pop smarts. Mariani is best known as the driving force behind The Stems, DM3 and The Someloves, while Sheppard's pedigree boasts 80's Bristol punks The Cortinas and thereafter as Mick Jones' replacement in the 1983-86 line-up of The Clash. In 2007 the pair teamed up with Howard Shawcross (The Elks, The Riptides) on bass and Marz Frisina on drums, quickly developing into a very 'hang loose' combo. Playing a mix of Dom and Nick's originals with a spread of 60's and 70's garage and soul classics, they are a band of seasoned players punching well above their collective musical weight. The DomNicks debut album Super Real is out on Citadel Records and continues in the tradition of The DomNicks' previous recording, Hey Rock 'n' Roller (Off The Hip 2009). Expanding on Hey Rock 'n' Roller's gutsy guitar driven sound, Super Real takes a ride through blues, soul, funk, and classic guitar pop influences to create one seamless musical journey fuelled by the vim and vigour of a noble era. Its bound to cause the head and heart to shake. 300 ONLY on 180 gm Vinyl release in deluxe sleeve w/ inner bag.

CUSSES - 'CUSSES'

Formats
  • HA-01 - LP
    791090899895
Details

Cusses, the Savannah, GA-based 3-piece rock outfit, are making their long anticipated debut album, the self-titled Cusses, available on October 30 via their own label, HA! Records. This collection features their MTV-approved first single "Worst Enemy" ? check out the haunting vocals of powerhouse frontwoman Angel Bond in the fittingly dark video for the track HERE: http://youtu.be/AByjep3r4AU Cusses aren't easy to define. However, whether their guitar driven, fuzzed out brand of music reminds you of The Runaways meets The Ramones or Siouxsie and the Banshees meets Jet, or even Pat Benatar with some heavy handed riot grrrl sass, it is impossible to come away with any other conclusion than this: Cusses are bringing back real, effortless, speaker-blasting rock & roll. A band that would be right at home taking center stage at CBGB. Lead singer Angel Bond was introduced to drummer Brian Lackey through mutual friends, and they have not separated since. The two moved from Los Angeles, where they worked in the art department for print and film together, to follow their passion for making music and performing. They headed to Savannah, Georgia in 2009, and met up with Brian's long time friend, guitarist and past band mate, Bryan Harder (they opened for post-hardcore legends Fugazi in their last band together!). The three formed Cusses that summer and played their first show in February 2010. And now their debut album, Cusses. Produced by Dan Hannon (Manchester Orchestra), Cusses is a relentlessly engaging collection of edgy, refreshing rock. Bond's wistful vocals cut brilliantly through strong, unyielding drum beats and commanding guitar riffs while the layered guitar parts played by Harder eliminate the need for a bassist, reminiscent of 90's grunge era bands. The album features the hard-hitting, high voltage lead single "Worst Enemy", the breezier, misleadingly sunny sounding "Blood Everywhere" and the anthemic "Don't Give In" featuring the added talents of Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull, taking on co-writing responsibilities with Bond.

God is saying this to you: Racism is the third album by Australia's most genius avant-tards The UV Race, dragging melodious pop songs through a devolved, malodorous glam-punk aesthetic. It continues the stylistic jump from their self-titled debut to sophomore full-length Homo, further exploring the possibilities of the first wave of punk, incorporating orchestral arrangements and gutter-glitter psych stomp, like if Vom tried to write their own Forever Changes; like if the Electric Eels backed up Bolan or if The Fall put out a record on Crass Records. There are tuneful lamentations of heartbreak and loss alongside very debased, toilet-humor punk licks; Lovecraftian psych-cult morbidity at one moment and rousing anti-anthems against self denial the next. It has been an especially productive year for the band- they are about to launch their first feature-length film, Autonomy and Deliberation, and the soundtrack LP recorded for the film comes alongside Racism, a split 7-inch with Native Cats (on Ride the Snake), a split live LP with Eddy Current Suppression Ring (on Almost Ready, originally released on a limited run of cassettes back in 2008), and the Gypsy King single (from Racism, on HoZac). All this, plus the output of the numerous other Melbourne bands in which members of UV Race play-Asps, Dick Diver, East Link, Guy & Marcus Blackman Experimentation, Lower Plenty, School of Radiant Living, Soma Coma, Straightjacket Nation and Total Control-reveal a relentless commitment for the sake of the song.

NATHAN BOWLES - 'A BOTTLE, A BUCKEYE'

  • SAB058CD - CD

Details

Hard to believe our planet had not yet been graced with Nathan Bowles solo recordings until now, but such is the case. After years of playing in celebrated ensembles, touring the world, and honing his skill on a host of instruments, Bowles unveils his first solo effort: A Bottle, A Buckeye. The spacious, rollicking, meditative, and above all powerful record bridges the methods and constructs of his two most notable groups ? The Black Twig Pickers (old-time) and Pelt (outer limits) ? while inhabiting a space all its own. Armed only with a 5-string openback banjo (built by Nathan's neighbor Greg Galbreath at the Buckeye Banjos workshop) and a bottle of Elmer T. Lee, Bowles recorded and mixed the record with Jason Meagher at Black Dirt Studio over two days in December 2011. Bowles' recent focus on the instrument's possibilities is on full display here; bowed & drummed textures, clawhammer boogie, and banjo soli sidewinding are all explored. With a mixture of traditional folk tunes, original compositions, and reinterpretations of material from players who've passed on, A Bottle, A Buckeye is a varied ride with a serious player at the helm. ? LP includes gratis download -------------------------------------------------------------------- Nathan Bowles is a musician & teacher living in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. He and his bandmates in the Black Twig Pickers steep themselves in local traditions of Appalachian folk music and dance. In his other projects, including Pelt and Pigeons, he focuses on the various sonic possibilities inherent in struck and bowed percussion -- metal, wood, skin, or otherwise. When playing by his lonesome, he prefers either minimal & hyper-nuanced percussive drone or tranced-out solo clawhammer banjo. Bowles has also famously backed Jack Rose and Charlie Parr on records and on stage.
