NIGHT MARCHERS / MRS MAGICIAN - 'SPLIT'

Formats
  • SWA143 - 7"
    N/A
Details

To commemorate Swami Records 2 biggest acts both eclipsing sales of over 500 physical copies of product, we have teamed them up for our latest release. A split 7"!! A novel idea that pairs 2 bands on the same release by giving each artist a side of the record to demonstrate their craft. On the The Night Marchers side you get a song called La Gloria. An ode to the glory days of Florida's hand rolled cigar industry. This song nearly made it on to the band's sophomore release but at the last moment was deemed not good enough.

DAMON & NAOMI - 'THE WONDROUS WORLD OF DAMON & NAOMI (BOOTLEG EDITION)'

Formats
  • 20202014 - LP
    N/A
Details

In 1995, Damon & Naomi went into the studio with Galaxie 500 producer Kramer to record their debut for Sub Pop. Not everything went according to plan, however; or rather, it turned out Kramer and Damon & Naomi each had a different plan for what should result. Damon & Naomi put down tracks for what they thought would be their first "acoustic" album, the beginnings of the folky sound they would develop in years to come. But Kramer, in the engineer and producer's seat, finished it according to his own idea: closer in spirit to the psychedelic record the duo and he had previously recorded together, More Sad Hits. When Damon & Naomi asked for changes, the mercurial Kramer-Phil Spector of indie rock-flew into one of his famous rages, insisting the album was already as it should be. In the end, he made the changes, but only under protest. And when band and label asked to hear the original version again to compare, Kramer said too late: he'd erased the tape. Flash forward a number-OK, a lot-of years. Old arguments are forgotten or forgiven, and fortunately no one has been murdered (this is still indie rock, after all). Damon & Naomi receive a message out of the blue from Kramer: a friend of his has found a bunch of master tapes from the old studio, some might be yours, here's the address. Damon climbs the stairs of a Tribeca walk-up, where a dusty plastic bag sealed with duct tape is waiting for him. Inside... Kramer's original master of Wondrous World. Not erased after all! So here it is. Different mixes, different sequence, and one otherwise unreleased song. Limited-edition vinyl pressing, with official bootleg art.

ANDREW LILES - 'MURGATROYD THE MONSTER (A NORTHERN NOIR)'

    Formats
    • BRR266 - LP
      N/A
    Details

"Andrew Liles is one of the UK's finest experimental/avant garde artists, not only performing in Nurse With Wound and Current 93, but releasing a huge catalogue of solo material on some of the worlds finest experimental labels. So it's with great honour that Blackest Rainbow releases Andrew's latest LP, 'Murgatroyd The Monster (A Nothern Noir)', a new instalment in his MONSTER series of releases. As with all the recordings in the MONSTER series Liles takes us off on another wild and unpredictable tangent. 'Murgatroyd The Monster (A Nothern Noir)' is primarily a narrative piece, arguably a recording much in the vein of a 'radio play' mixed with 'cool' jazz which has all been blended together with an intoxicating cocktail of surrealism and avant garde scrapes, groans and studio wizardry. The story narrated by two Americans (artist Alex Jako and Nurse With Wound member M.S. Waldron) talk us through a bizarre tale of a young lady who has stolen a huge sum of cash from Murgatroyd, a local mobster. She is trying to escape but Murgatroyd and his gang are hunting her down. This all sounds fairly standard fodder for a film noir tale but the twist is the language. The words used are entirely Yorkshire and Lancashire slang and dialect. Most people south of Nottingham will struggle to understand the words used and the wider world will be more than slightly dumbfounded. 'Murgatroyd The Monster (A Nothern Noir)' is a very unusual recording, both ridiculous and intelligent, unpredictable yet clich?d. It is another valuable addition to the Liles canon that is testament to his indomitable desire to create new and very different music. Limited to 220 copies released for Record Store Day 2013. Pressed on 180 gram clear vinyl with full colour sleeves. "
