**CLEAR VINYL RE-PRESS INSTOCK NOW** Only 21 years of age when this was recorded, Olafur hails from the suburban Icelandic town, Mosfellsb?r, just a few kilometres outside Reykjav?k. He as immersed himself completely in the world of delicate symphonic compositions in a near weightless orchestral undertaking. Mixing strings and piano with loops, ambiance, electronics and beats, his music fits into the Erased Tapes catalogue like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Debut album 'Eulogy for Evolution' took the listener on a journey, representing different periods in life, from birth to death. The first pressing of the follow-up EP 'Variations of Static' sold out on his winter tour already and will now be available in stores. While keeping the classical foundations of his debut album, here Arnalds incorporates crackling electronics and the dead voice of a machine; like vague memories of tradition lost within the digital age we all live in. It comes with a voucher for a free digital copy of the 'Erased Tapes Collection I' compilation to celebrate the label's 1st anniversary. The 10" is a super limited clear vinyl issue, we are getting 100 copies only.

*CLEAR VINYL REPRESS INSTOCK NOW* A contemporary dance score for award winning British choreographer Wayne McGregor inspired by Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev (1872-1929). 'My composer for Dyad, Icelandic musician ?lafur Arnalds, is coming in next week to finish work on the score. It's an amazing piece of music ? it's melancholic and spatial then cuts to extreme rhythmic violence - it's hauntingly inspiring' ? Wayne McGregor (Random Dance) 2009 has already proved quite a year for Iceland's neo-classical export ?lafur Arnalds. Still high on the success of his 7-song series 'Found Songs' ? recording a song a day for 7 days and instantly making each track available via Twitter; ?lafur was approached by the world renowned and critically acclaimed choreographer Wayne McGregor to create a 30-minute score for his ambitious new work 'Dyad 1909'. The dance piece, inspired and created 'In The Spirit of Diaghilev' premiered at the Sadler's Wells theatre this October and became an unpredictable and much talked about 5-nights of live music, dance and visuals. This 'fascinating collaboration' (Guardian) will go on a EU-wide tour this autumn with Arnalds included in an impressive creative line-up alongside visual artists and filmmakers Jane and Louise Wilson. In December ?lafur's 'evocative and lyrical score' (The Times) will see a 10" vinyl, CD and digital release via Erased Tapes ? the label behind his previous releases as well as Peter Broderick's recent and much noted dance score release 'Music For Falling From Trees'. Born in 1987, ?lafur hails from the suburban Icelandic town, Mosfellsb?r, just a few kilometres outside of Reykjav?k. He has immersed himself completely in a world of delicate symphonic compositions generating near weightless orchestral pieces. Arnalds explores the crossover from classical to pop by mixing chamber strings and piano with discreet electronics which makes him a perfect fit for cinematic pop label Erased Tapes. His motivations are clear: "The classical scene is kind of closed to people who haven't been studying music all their lives. I would like to bring my classical influence to the people who don't usually listen to this kind of music?open people's minds." This young artist is steadily gaining recognition worldwide since his 2007 debut 'Eulogy for Evolution' and the 2008 follow-up EP 'Variations of Static'. In April 2009 online experiment 'Found Songs' received more than 200,000 downloads via foundsongs.erasedtapes.com and the physical edition released this August has instantly become a best seller, demonstrating that music in its physical format still attains a particular charm. ?lafur conceived 'Found Songs' as a way to collate several lost and found musical sketches and ideas in a 'very challenging, but fun' series. The experiment offers its listeners an intimate insight into ?lafur Arnalds' creative world with artwork contributions from fans via Flickr. With the next full-length release due in 2010, 'Found Songs' hasn't just inspired 2-D work. Esteban Di?cono ? a young motion graphic artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina ? created an astonishing animation video for 'Lj?si?', which found its way into the heart of UK illusionist Darren Brown among over 400,000 others within 4 weeks via Vimeo and YouTube. The music video is now available for download via iTunes. ?lafur is currently in the studio with Bardi Johannsson (Bang Gang) who will be co-producing his upcoming and highly anticipated second full-length album.

In Istanbul, close to the city center, lies a district not often visited by tourists. It?s called Dolapdere, and it is populated by the Roma of the city, many of whom are originally from Thrace. They supply the music for the city?s weddings, circumcisions, parades and parties. Dolapdere is the home of clarinet virtuoso C?neyt Sepet?i and the Orchestra Dolapdere?some of the greatest musicians of Istanbul. They specialize in a modern take on classic Turkish Roma (gypsy) music, as well as folk songs from Albania, Macedonia, Spain and elsewhere that they have adapted to their own inimitable style. On days when Sepet?i is not working, one can find him in the caf?, drinking chai and waiting for the highest bidder to hire him for the night?s concert. In the summer of 2012, he met American musicians A Hawk and A Hacksaw, who agreed to get the under-recorded master into a studio and release his first album. Sepet?i has chosen all the tracks; many are hits from the Turkish Roma repertoire, but many have not been heard in the West.

YONG YONG - 'LOVE'

Formats
  • LSSN010 - LP
Details

Yong Yong are a duo from Lisbon, Portugal comprising Rodolfo Brito & Francisco Silva. Originally released on cassette, 'Love' is their debut release and is now available in an altered, re-worked version for the LP release. A warped excursion into outsider electronics, 'Love' drifts in and out of inner ear consciousness using a multi-technique language which Yong Yong can definitively say is their own. Beginning their recorded career with abstract drone music, Yong Yong have since widened their scope; communicating a slanted perspective of a whole slew of contemporary musics. Samples and degraded electronics, the aesthetics of crumbling form, and pop music turned in on itself are mixed into a vortex which still manages to be underpinned by a melancholic sense of melody. Both experimental and populist, 'Love' is the result of high and low culture smelted down into a miasmic, evocative mercury. A fluid experience where nothing is at seems and that's how it should be.

ROCKFIRE FUNK EXPRESS - 'PEOPLE SAVE THE WORLD B/W ROCKFIRE FUNK EXPRESS'

Formats
  • TMR194 - 7"
Details

While RockFire Funk Express never released any music while they were officially a band, in 1973 they recorded a two-song single at United Sound Systems, a legendary Detroit studio that recorded everyone from John Coltrane, John Lee Hooker, the MC5 and countless others. The a-side "People Save the World" is a propulsive, socially-conscious, exercise in primitive funk rock. The b-side shares its title with the band's name and is a breezy, easy-going instrumental, weirdly at odds with its name. These songs have sat in the can for over 40 years and were all-but-forgotten--until Death, the band that RockFire had morphed into, issued the 2009 set of recordings from 1974 ...For the Whole World to See, becoming a cause-celebre in the punk community as early progenitors of the style. In conjunction with the release of the stellar A Band Called Death documentary film, Third Man is finally unleashing these songs, giving the Hackney Brothers David, Dannis and Bobby their due.

THE UNDERWEAR HEADS - 'TANGIN'

Formats
  • TMR195 - 7"
Details

Recorded at Rock 'n' Roll HDQS Fall 1980. The Underwear Heads were long-rumored to have been a fictional creation. Evidence of their existence over the past 30 plus years had been reliant upon a picture sleeve for a single that never came with a record. Due to the copycat nature of punk collectors' want lists, the legend of the U-Heads extended far-and-wide as "the sleeve without a record." Truth of the matter is that vinyl was pressed for the release, but due to a manufacturing error all copies were defective and were unceremoniously destroyed while some sleeves managed to slip into circulation. Third Man was able to track down band member John Crenshaw (brother of esteemed Michigan-born songwriter Marshall Crenshaw) who instantly claimed he'd not heard the band's name uttered since 1983. Bandmates Nick Canterucci, Art Lyshak and Bruno Burroni were conferenced in, an early-generation master was located in Australia and the world is finally privileged to hear the Tangmania EP. The six songs on this self-recorded 7" run the gamut from silly drum machine punk, outre experimental tape manipulation and art rock spaciousness.

While Lawson is using primitive elements to construct these pieces, there's still a sense of density and well-worn love in each of them, like they were meticulously stitched together and just a little frayed. DM3 - 'THE BEST OF...'

Formats
  • CITLP572 - LP
Details

DM3 formed in Perth, Western Australia in 1992 around the songwriting talents of Dom Mariani, but the DM3 story really began a decade earlier with a seminal rock/pop band that emerged from the world?s most isolated capital city (Perth): THE STEMS. From 1984 to 1987 THE STEMS, with Mariani at the helm as singer, songwriter and lead guitarist, rapidly infiltrated Australian radio, press and alternative charts, winning the hearts of critics and a legion of loyal fans. A quick succession of classic singles and a chart-topping album, At First Sight, generated interest from as far afield as Europe and the United States. Then, THE STEMS almost as fast as they appeared, disbanded sealing their legend in the annals of Australian music history. Soon after the demise of THE STEMS Mariani resurfaced with THE SOMELOVES whose first and only album, Something or Other, was lauded by pop pundits as a masterpiece and won a landslide of accolades including a clean sweep of the 1990 WA Music Industry Awards. DM3?s debut single Foolish saw Mariani back on Australian stages with another loud, tight, electric rock?n?roll outfit. Their first album One Time Two Times Three Red Light (1993) mixed by legendary American producer Mitch Easter (REM, Pavement, Son Volt, Lets Active, Velvet Crush) received widespread critical acclaim and sold throughout Australia, Europe and the US. What followed were tours of Europe in ?94 and ?95 taking in Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Denmark?s world-renowned Roskilde Festival. In 1996, DM3 released their second album Road To Rome (also mixed by Mitch Easter) praised by critics of guitar-driven pop in Australia, Europe and the US as one of the best albums for ?96 of its genre. Their fusion of melodic pop hooks, cool vocals and high-energy rock?n?roll guitar earned them high praise and many new fans. In the same year they embarked on another successful European tour playing to packed houses across Spain, France and Scandinavia. 1998 saw the release of their third and final album, Rippled Soul, which was a more diversely structured album recorded over a three separate sessions in a 12-month period which saw the introduction of Mariani?s former Stems colleague Julian Matthews on bass. The album was also well received by fans and critics alike in Australia, Europe and US.DM3 released two more albums, an EP and 7inch single. The two albums, titled Garage Sale Vol. 1 and Garage Sale Vol. 2 ? Italian Style, are collections of previously unreleased tracks, non-album b-sides, alternate mixes, odd covers and live songs previously only available on 7 inches. The Just Like Nancy EP which was eventually compiled into Garage Sale Vol. 2 and the Snapshot single for Freshwater Records are their last recordings. The band continued to tour Spain and France in ?99 and disbanded shortly after. In 2001 they reformed briefly to tour Italy as part of their appearance on the Gene Gnocchi show Perepepe. DM3 made their mark on the international power pop scene with three official albums. They are revered by fans and critics alike and are possibly the best power pop band Australia has produced!

STRAIGHT ARROWS - 'IT'S HAPPENING'

Agitated are pleased to confirm the UK and European release of Straight Arrows IT?S HAPPENING! Originally released in 2010 via Rice is Nice, this is the first time the record will be available in the UK/EU with the first 500 copies of (250 LP and 250 CD) coming with a bonus CD of old singles, demos, and live scuzz. First vinyl pressing is 250 coloured vinyl, and comes with the 14 track bonus cd. first 250 CDs come with the 14 track bonus cd also. Recorded within the realms of MEDIUM FIDELITY at HANGING TREE - Tim Done?s home/studio/archaic equipment museum - using all the 1950s equipment available has resulted in a record where almost all the instruments can be heard. Add in Brent Griffin/SPOD to the mix with his injection of fuzzed out reverberating budget psychedelia and IT?S HAPPENING! was born. Straight Arrows began with Owen Penglis yelling about getting dumped and kicked out of bands into a four-track cassette. He was soon joined by Alex Grigg, Angela Bermuda and Adam Williams - all friends with colourful musical pasts. Slowly the four honed their reverb-laden, fuzzed out, punk garage into scrappy perfection. Finding it tough to get shows, Straight Arrows went down the DIY path and decided to put on their own raucous parties at New South Wales? notorious (and now abandoned) gay bar, The Newtown Hotel. Around the same time they put out their first 7? ?Something Happens/Can?t Count? on their newly formed label Juvenile Records. Figuring the only way to sell these records (and make their money back) was to force them, photocopied sleeve ?n all, into the hands of drunks and connoisseurs. Straight Arrows started driving up and down the east coast of Australia, playing parties, warehouses, bars - wherever they could - and in the process gained an outstanding reputation for being ??the band that will make you start your own band??. By late 2010 Straight Arrows sold out two more 7s, toured with friends Thee Oh Sees, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Black Lips, Jay Reatard (RIP) and Ty Segall amongst others and released their debut album It?s Happening to a flood of praise, landing them an invite to perform at the Goner Fest in Memphis, Tennessee playing alongside garage punk royalty The Gories. Bands began to queue-up for Owen Penglis to record and produce their music at his home studio and in 2012 Owen produced and recorded the who?s who of Sydney / Brisbane Garage scene for the 40th Anniversary tribute album to the seminal Nuggets compilation, originally compiled by Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith band). Straight Arrows will release their follow up to IT?S HAPPENING! via Agitated later in the year.

CARLTON MELTON - 'FOUR EYES'

Formats
  • BRR252 - LP
Details

Carlton Melton have been releasing some incredible improvised psychedelic jams over the last few years, released through their own Mid To Late label and the UK label Agitated. So after hanging out with these guys at their show here and being absolutely blown away, we're pleased to be releasing this prelude to their forthcoming new LP for Agitated later this year. This new four track 30+ minute 12" EP is dripping with heavy riffs, thunderous drums, gurgling synth psychedelia, and mind altering bass. The Carlton Melton sound lies between drone and space rock entwined with loose jam band improvisation, and they blend it perfectly with a touch of baked stoner rock. The record features special guests Brian McDougall, and John McBain (founding member of the legendary Monster Magnet). McBain also mastered the audio. Limited to 600 copies pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl.

HELLVETE - 'Sint - Denijs'

Formats
  • BRR245 - LP
Details

Brand new record from Glen Steenkiste, founding member of Silvester Anfang and their more recent incarnation Sylvester Anfang II. Currently Glen is also frequently collaborating with his fellow Anfang member, Ernesto Gonzalez (aka Bear Bones Lay Low) in their free-drone project Gonzalez & Steenkiste. But whilst being active in these projects he still finds time to craft his own music. ?Sint-Denijs? is his second solo full length vinyl release following his ?De Gek? lp for Kraak Records from 2010, and several great cassette and CDR releases for fantastic labels like Funeral Folk, Sloow Tapes, Audiobot and SicSic Tapes. Since his previous record on Kraak, Steenkiste has been getting more and more interested in sustained tones, foreign melodies and longer compositions. On this new record he draws influences from early Minimalism and old folk music and with the use of harmonium, bowed banjo, electric tampura and analog synth he creates probing intense sounds that try to undo notions of time and place. Steenkiste?s music is like taking an endless shower of sunbeams, warm, comforting and mind-altering. Music that makes time stand still and focuses on shifting details and textures, but massive in sound and presence. This record is pressed in an edition of 500 copies on 180 gram virgin vinyl including a digital download coupon.

DAN MELCHIOR - 'K-85'

Formats
  • HOMELESS7 - LP
Details

Dan first came to the attention of music snobs and record collectors worldwide in the mid '90s with his band The Broke Revue, and via collaborations with fellow Brits Billy Childish and Holly Golightly. Dan and his band started out playing a thudding blues-based rumble, but a fiercely individualistic streak which lies at the core of his music fuelled a rapid morphing into a more twisted take on things, incorporating oddly timed riffs, oddball arrangements and psychedelic drag outs. Relocation to New York, marriage to Letha Rodman and a few more albums, and the Broke Revue were dust. The creative drive unfettered, Dan seemed scarcely to skip a beat, releasing home recordings as Dan Melchior Und Das Menace, solo and in collaboration with his wife and with others. While an ever-broadening array of ideas and experiments with sounds appears on record, an honest and unique voice shines through; never, as he puts it, obscured by fuzz or a fear of exposing who he is. K-85 is one of Dan's more song-based albums, with lo-fi electronic interludes interspersed between and occasionally through. Lyrical themes deal with some familiar standbys: isolation, daily humdrum, contempt for contemporary culture and a failure to be honest with ourselves. An occasional feigned Luddism might seem at odds with the bastard synthesising of traditional folk, but reflects more a weariness with his world from which solace can be found in the love of his wife Letha.
