Released hot on the heels of 1973's killer album “Coloured Balls” (yes, soon also to be reissued by Desperate on LP), Heavy Metal Kid is one of Coloured Balls' Lobby Loyde's finest recordings, and has been out of print in this format since its release (40 years!), with originals going for hundreds of dollars. is a true proto-punk slab of dynamite, right up there with similar recordings by the likes of the MC5 and the Pink Fairies. Featuring a mix of growling punkers (the title track, 'Private Eye'), '50s rockers (a cover of '(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care', 'Need Your Love'), hi-energy boogie ('Do It', 'Dance To The Music'), cosmic rock ('Back To You', 'Metal Feathers') and even a ballad in there, it's an eclectic mix held together by its outlaw sense of purpose. Along with , is sound of the great Sharpie stomp of 1970s Melbourne. CHEATER SLICKS - 'DESTINATION LONELY'

Formats
  • DEFCON9 - LP

Details

The Desperate Records label - home to such raw rock & roll as Bored!, Powder Monkeys and The Kremlings - is pleased to announce a new addition to its roster: the reissue of legendary Columbusvia- Boston low-rent scuzz-rockers the Cheater Slicks' 1991 album, “Destination Lonely”. Formed in 1987 (and originally featuring GG Allin's brother, Merle, in the group!), the band has over a dozen LPs to their name, some on highly reputable imprints such as In The Red and Crypt, and have toured with (and been toted by) the likes of Jon Spencer and Mudhoney. They remain one of the USA's finest purveyors of unhinged, raw rock & roll, equal parts Stooges, Cramps and a litany of obscure influences gleamed from a lifetime of collecting dusty 45s. And all that brings us to Destination Lonely . Originally released on the famed Melbourne Dog Meat label in 1991, and featuring amazing cover art from Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, anyone?), it's a beautiful collection of obscure '60s garage covers (Lost Souls, Huns, Levis, even a Love tune in there) and life-affirming 'Slicks originals. For an album dealing with loneliness and despair, it sure is a lot of fun. Destination Lonely has been out of print since the late '90s, and we figure it's time to get it back in circulation again. After all, you can't get a copy on Discogs these days for under $80. It's been fully remastered by Australian wunderkind Mikey Young, giving it a touch of needed low-end oomph to its sound, and it comes on a heavy-duty slab of 180-gm wax with a download card. There's only 600 of these suckers, so get in quick!

A WINGED VICTORY FOR THE SULLEN - 'ATOMOS VII'

Details

Erased Tapes are pleased to announce the release of A Winged Victory for the Sullen's ‘ATOMOS VII’. April 28, 2014 sees the first installment leading up to the release of the second full length studio album 'ATOMOS', and score for choreographer Wayne McGregor's long form dance piece. McGregor was heavily influenced by the duo's 2011 self-titled debut, playing it repeatedly during practices with his core group of dancers. After noticing the group's reaction with the music, he contacted Adam and Dustin to see if they could write the score for his new oeuvre. The duo recorded more than sixty minutes of music over a four-month period during the summer of 2013 in Brussels, Berlin and Reykjavik with the help of their longtime collaborative sound engineer Francesco Donadello. This EP also sees the involvement of Ben Frost, who composed the music for McGregor’s previous work 'Far'. McGregor, mastermind behind the Random Dance Company and resident choreographer at the Royal Ballet since 2006, is known in popular culture circles for serving as movement director for the film 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'. He has also choreographed the Radiohead video 'Lotus Flower' and 'Ingenue’ by Atoms for Peace. IN THEIR OWN WORDS: ‘While we were re-amping guitars at Greenhouse studios, Ben expressed interest and admiration in the sounds we had created. We were planning for the B-side to be a metamorphosis of part VII, and Ben seemed the obvious choice. With the multi-tracks transformed, it follows a trajectory that we had not felt comfortable with before. But with Ben's involvement and influence, it was a painless entrance to this crooked, distorted world.’ – Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie ‘We never imagined 2013 would be such an explosively creative year. The first record took us two years from start to finish, but in the micro span of time over last summer we were able to change the formula for the way we write, record, and let go. It was incredibly liberating.’ – Dustin O'Halloran
