The UK's Arndales are back with two more songs of angular, menacing pummel from men who you wouldn't suspect actually do hate noise. Edition of 500. This single should be on the list!

PAMPERS - 'RIGHT TONIGHT'

Formats
  • ITR278 - 7"
Details

Four brand new tracks from Brooklyn's Pampers. Anyone who dug their self-titled debut album from last year (or the two singles that preceded it) will no doubt flip for these four new slabs of thug punk. Hints of pop hooks and post-punk song structures struggle to be identified amid the break-neck pace. Great stuff!

“I was very reluctant to put this stuff out because there’s a ton of rootsy cornballs out there doing this kind of stuff and all of them play guitar way better than me. But I think I have something here that doesn’t really sound like anything else. The numbers that bounce really bounce. The numbers that drone really drone. I’m excited about this.” -Danny Kroha As a mainstay on the Detroit music scene for over thirty years, Danny Kroha has consistently pushed himself to reinvention. As founding member of garage legends the Gories, he’s influenced countless imitators and poseurs. His axe work with Rocket 455 is the most quintessentially “Detroit” rock and roll this side of the MC5. And his turn as a pastied playgirl in the Demolition Doll Rods proved that even in drag, he was undeniably solid. So with his first full-length release under his own name, it may come as an unexpected turn that he’s dealing in classic gospel and folk songs. Playing every instrument himself, spanning guitar, banjo, baritone dulcimer, diddley bow, washtub bass, jug and mouth organ, the end result is a collection of compelling, timeless traditional songs. Angels Watching Over Me is the real deal, seeming that it could’ve been recorded at any time over the past 70 years. With this album, Kroha firmly establishes himself as one of the pre-eminent practitioners of a genre in desperate need of someone with his creativity and vision in moving forward the classic American art form. LP Packaging: standard weight vinyl, old style tip-on sleeve. Download code included • recorded in empty 100-year-old house in Detroit • featuring songs popularized by Son House, I.D. Stamper, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Brother Will Hairston • “Run Little Children” written by Kroha, in the style of John Lee Hooker and played on diddley bow • recommended if you like Charlie Patton, Mississippi Records, John Fahey, the Anthology of American Folk Music • key markets: Detroit, Memphis, Chicago, San Francisco, Nashville • Kroha best known as founding member of the Gories. Also played with Demolition Doll Rods, Danny and the Darleans and others

Details

Los Angeles garage / punk band Endless Bummer follows up their debut EP, Ripper Current, with this full-length featuring thirteen sonic slabs guaranteed to wallop any selfrespecting fan of trash rock. Vol. 1 was recorded by Ty Segall at his now-defunct Sweat Lodge studio. “Lance Barresi and Liz Tooley may not be big garage names like Ty Segall or John Dwyer are, but as the founders of Permanent Records they’re arguably just as important. They’re responsible for putting out rippers by Purling Hiss, Cave, Running, Charles Albright, Obnox, Bitchin Bajas, and many others. Endless Bummer lives up to their noisy legacy. Joined by the Spits’ Greg Toumassian, they churn out ... sludgy, dark, screaming garage pop.” —Pitchfork

RED AUNTS - 'COME UP FOR A CLOSER LOOK'

Formats
  • ITR270 - 2xLPs
    759718527018
Details

The Red Aunts were an all-female punk band that formed in 1991 in Long Beach, California, when Terri Wahl (guitar / vocals) recruited friends Kerry Davis (guitar / vocals), Debi Martini (bass / vocals), and Lesley Ishino (drums). Their brand of unfiltered music is toxic, taking a sharp claw to every riot grrrl cliché it can shred. After five albums, several years of touring and a huge fanbase, they called it quits in 1998. The ladies recently decided it was time to wake people up and save the music with their unique form of rock. Come Up for a Closer Look is their “Greatest Hits” compilation, a gatefold-sleeve double-album complete with killer art and photos, plus liner notes by Red Aunts fan Sasha Frere-Jones. “The Red Aunts are nothing to mess with ... wonderfully reckless rock.” —L.A.
