HIIRAGI FUKUDA - 'DUMP'

Formats
  • HOLY1998 - 7"
Details

“Dump” (and its B-side “Don’t Worry Be Slow”) has the massive guitar solos that Hiiragi Fukuda’s masterpiece of late-night mellow My Turntable Is Slow could not contain. Both songs possess an earlier-in-the-evening swagger that make them as complimentary to Hiiragi’s LP as “Suspicious Minds” is to The Memphis Album. The single is limited to 300 copies.

“For nine years they have been slowly simmering in a pot. For nine years I have been seeing them usurp every bill they have been on. I’ve never seen a bad Bronze show… they range from smiling and hypnotized dancing crowds to a man getting violated and urinated on at a yuppie bar (everyone still smiling). “Always the entertainers, always drunk with mad skills; with dashes of John Carpenter, Silver Apples, Liquid Liquid, Birthday Party, Harold Grosskopf, Klaus Schultze, Cluster, and Brian Ferry with a field recorder taped to his tux jacket. Ultra bottom heavy dance beats à la Brian Hock (shirt off / shirt on, it’s all good to me), super handwringing oscillations home brewed by Miles Friction and the ever-great Robert Spector delivering homilies from beyond the dimensional wall. “They bought a limousine to tour in (which may be the raddest fucking thing I’ve ever heard of), but it’s been parked in the bat cave under a car cocoon like San Francisco’s best kept secret. These guys should be on tour, eaten alive every night by ravenous fanatics—but alas, they are like a rare treat these days. So, we’ve waited outside the bivouac for the flap to lift, and after many nights and cold rations they appeared and performed the great and fabled Bronze happening for us to trap to tape. A mix of absolute old faves and new gears grinding; a great night indeed, recorded and mixed by the Castle Face crew, adorned with photos of the night. You are well set to feast on this release.” —John Dwyer

JOHN BENDER - 'I DON'T REMEMBER NOW / I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT'

Formats
  • SV101 - LP
    855985006017
Details

John Bender recorded voraciously between 1978 and 1980 at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Not even song titles could slow down his creative pace, as he named all the tracks after their position on the original tapes. “36A2,” for example, was cassette #36 side A, piece #2. To close the DIY aesthetic circle, Bender made sleeves by hand with no two covers alike and pressed the LPs in hyper-limited editions on his own Record Sluts imprint. I Don’t Remember Now / I Don’t Want To Talk About It, Bender’s first album from 1980, is the holy grail of minimal lo-fi electronics. Layers of fractured melodies, distorted synthesizers, hollowed-out rhythms and claustrophobic vocals unfold over the 40 minutes of this lost masterpiece. “It’s A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl,” one of Faust’s greatest songs, is perfectly deconstructed by a distinct punk-meetsexperimentalist sensibility. While I Don’t Remember Now is impossibly rare and the man behind the music remains shrouded in self-imposed mystery, the real surprise is that it has taken 35+ years for listeners to discover Bender’s warm, art-damaged immediacy. This first-time standalone reissue is recommended for fans of Pere Ubu, Brian Eno and Robert Ashley. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies. Red vinyl with hand-stamped jackets, each one unique. Liner notes by John Bender. • First-time reissue of 1980 minimal wave holy grail • Original copies go for high collector prices • Limited / numbered edition of 1,000 copies • Red vinyl with handmade jackets, each one unique • Liner notes by John Bender • Recommended for fans of Pere Ubu, Brian Eno and Robert Ashley

WILLIAM BURROUGHS - 'CALL ME BURROUGHS'

Formats
  • SV094 - LP
    855985006949
Details

Originally released in 1965 by The English Bookshop in Paris and later by ESP-Disk’ in New York, Call Me Burroughs marks not only the recorded debut of William Burroughs , but also for many the first encounter with his inimitable voice. While Burroughs has had pervasive influence on counterculture in the past 50 years—from the Beats to punk rock and even hip hop—no other figure today is so widely considered the epitome of cool. Call Me Burroughs features the author reading from Naked Lunch and Nova Express, two of his best-known works that utilize the cut-up method developed by Burroughs and artist Brion Gysin. An eerie, deadpan drawl guides the listener through sci-fi innerscapes, narcotic nightmares, reports from the edge of the apocalypse. Phantasmagoric passages echo real experiences roaming the streets of Mexico, the West Village, Tangiers. Bradley the Buyer and other shadowy agents haunt our ears as Burroughs turns the page and pauses purposefully. “Anything put out up till now is like pulling a figure out of the air—Enemy installations shattered—Personnel decimated—Board Books taken—Electric waves of resistance sweeping through mind screens of the earth— The message of Total Resistance on short wave of the world” This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Hunter S. Thompson, Patti Smith and Throbbing Gristle. • First-time vinyl reissue • Classic debut album, originally released in 1965 • Features the author reading from his best-known works • Original copies go for high collector prices • Recommended for fans of Hunter S. CROSS RECORD - 'BE GOOD'

Formats
  • BING090 - LP
    600197009017
Details

Between melody and discord, Cross Record’s first full-length LP Be Good forges a quiet path through myriad sounds. Strings, clarinet, flute, steel drum, bells, tape distortion and other instrumentation support Emily Cross’s enchanting vocals while allowing for silences to build like black holes. Her lyrics conjure a dark beauty that leaves an effect long after the album has completed. Released by Lay Flat as a 300-press LP in September of 2012, the record followed a string of self-released recordings by this enterprising 25-year-old. Be Good is now available on vinyl once again courtesy of Ba Da Bing.

SEAN LENNON - 'AVAS POSSESSIONS - MUSIC FROM THE FILM'

Formats
  • CHIM33 - 10"
Details

Sean Lennon's AVA’S POSSESSIONS film score is the musical backdrop for a quirky and eerie alternatereality that flips the possessions genre on its head, starring Louisa Krause, Carol Kane, Jemima Kirke and Dan Fogler. A mysterious, dreamy wash of echoey drum machines and keyboards with dark and foreboding synth arrangements, twangy guitar riffs with a sci-fi western flair, 50s pop, 70s punk, creepy demonic themes interlaced with a touch raunchy, swaggering horns that recalls old school film noir — these diverse elements blend seamlessly to build a world of ominous moods and devilish confrontations, with a surprisingly fresh indie rock edge. Lennon acts as both composer and performer on 10 of the songs, the remaining 2 being bonus tracks contributed by A.A. Khan (aka King Khan) and Mary Ochers. Vocalists Karla Moheno, Bishi and Foley Steward lend their voices to “Different Drum,” “Devil Daughter” and “Blame Beelzabub” respectively. Lennon has released two previous film scores, Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Undead and Alter Egos, to great critical acclaim. The diversity of these projects is a testament to his range as a musician, with nearly every review commenting on the film's music, calling it one of the single best things about the film.

CLEVER - 'KEWDI UDI'

Formats
  • HOMELESS22 - LP
    9342478005523
Details

 Vinyl only release, includes download code  Limited edition of 400 copies  From Brisbane, Queensland, formed 2015  Recorded and mixed by Luke Walsh (Blank Realm) “One of the purest, brightest, and most destructive sparks to light up Brisbane in the past twelve months has been Clever. Featuring members past and present of Per Purpose, The Wrong Man, Sewers, Psy Ants and more, this four-piece are taking the Venom P Stinger route into Brisbane sweatbox oblivion, a white-hot, multi-limbed, irascible demon intent on exploding and regenerating in two-minute spurts.” - SONIC MASALA “Brisbane noisy nihilists Clever burst out of the gutter a couple years ago, wiping the floor with blood-and-sweat-stained alacrity. They started littering stages in 2015, after I had left, and I quickly lined them up to last year's Sonic Masala Fest - an amazing set, one of my favourites across the two festivals thus far. Their visceral gurning and flailing felt brutal and new, at least in these parts - aside from the dour disintegration of Kitchen’s Floor and gnashed madness of Sewers, this is the kind of sound more accustomed to the diseased denizens of Melbourne mainstays like Cuntz, Mutton and others that spill from the feedtime wellspring. But it shouldn't be a surprise that such arced anarchy was born out of the melding of dark-matter minds from members Per Purpose, Psy Ants and The Wrong Man. And now they have locked horns with Homeless Records (Cuntz, Spray Paint, Yes I'm Leaving) for their first LP Kewdi Udi. First cut 'Your Eyesore's Sweat' may not be the deepest, but it is infected with acrid angularity and fevered spit.” - SONIC MASALA A degenerate amalgam of mutated underground punk and venomous noise rock, Clever are one the most furious forces to hit the Brisbane underground music scene in 2016. A shambolic collection of Brisbane locals drawn from Per Purpose, The Wrong Man, Sewers and Psy Ants, the four-piece comprises of drummer Callum Galletly, guitarist Fred Gooch, bassist Harry Bryne and front man Mitch Perkins. Formed in 2015 the group’s incisive noise punk has become a regular feature within Brisbane’s underground scene

ASHLEY MONROE - 'LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS'

Formats
  • TMR318 - LP
    813547022752
Details

She’s at her best when she not only has a guitar in her hands, but a pencil too. She’s 1/3 of Pistol Annies, 1/2 of the Cherry Sisters, 2 parts sugar, and 1 part spice. She’s a East Tennessee girl in a Tennessee town with a new record out and a Grammy nomination to show for it. She’s a storyteller, a truth seller, and a good speller. Hers is a regular name to see on the liner notes of the records you love, and it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if you love the records you love because her name is on the liner notes. The first time Ashley Monroe sang at Third Man Records, it was with Wanda Jackson for her “Live at Third Man Records,” LP. The next time Ashley Monroe sang at Third Man Records, it was with Willie Nelson for his special 80th Birthday CMT Crossroads Live at Third Man Records performance, released as Vault Package #17. The last time Ashley Monroe sang at Third Man Records, it was May 2015 to record her very own Live at Third Man Records 12” LP, recorded direct-to-acetate in the Blue Room. So, without further ado, we are pleased to present this brand new live record
