Details
If ‘Convenanza’, released in February, was a distillation of all Andrew Weatherall’s influences in one place then ‘Consolamentum’ takes that instinct a step further. Here he invites friends old and new to rework the tracks from Convenanza in their own style. On board are redoubtable musical architects such as David Holmes (under his new ‘Unloved’ guise), Justin Robertson (wearing his ‘Deadstock 33s’ hat) and the legendary Bernard Fevre of Black Devil Disco Club notoriety. Leading the charge by the new guard are Heretic, Red Axes, Solar Bears and Vox Low whose tracks have twisted into existence a quiet storm on ALFOS nights. Double vinyl version, comes with FLAC / MP3 DL card containing all the tracks on the CD. LIMITED TO 700 copies only. Praise for ‘Convenanza’: DJ Mag – 8.5/10 - “’Convenanza’ might just be his most accomplished LP yet.” Q – 4/5 – “a mighty tasty spread.” XLR8R – 8/10 – “a seamless blend of live drums and bass, electronics and scuzz, atmosphere and intrigue… it just sounds like Weatherall.” Groove – “a great success” Please note the LP version is 8 tracks and includes *** plus The Confidence Man (The Emperor Machine Dub) Ghosts Again (Scott Fraser Ghosts In The Piano Mix)

ROY MONTGOMERY - 'H: BENDER'

Details
It’s been over a decade since Roy Montgomery’s last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return. H: Bender harkens back to his nineties work, where guitar riffs ensconced themselves in dynamism. Montgomery’s trademark reverbladen guitar offers a fluidity like pulsing blood, coloring in each motif’s corners and rewarding every deeper listen with heightened profundity. Montgomery was in his rock band period in the eighties, when the dark, minimalist post-punk of The Pin Group lead into the gloriously open-ended freedoms of Dadamah. After a quiet spell, he returned in the late nineties, producing towering spires of guitar lines that exposed fragility between the strums. With his solo releases and in collaboration with Flying Saucer Attack, Bardo Pond (Hash Jar Tempo), and Chris Heaphy (Dissolve), his focus shifted from the truth-mining of rock music to epic celestialism. His ambitious yet humble tracks outstrip their origins, and Montgomery toured the world sitting cross-legged on the floor, playing twenty-plus-minute compositions. A long period of silence followed, marked only with a split album with Grouper (who lists Montgomery as a primary influence), involvement in Torlesse Super Group, and a couple thematic variations serving as soundtracks for films. Instead, he focused on his personal and professional commitments. Unfortunately, two horrific events preceded his return: the Christchurch earthquakes of 2011 condemned Montgomery’s entire neighborhood save for his home, stripping his street of a community; and, as a volunteer firefighter, he saw first-hand the destruction and loss of life in the city center. Additionally, since 2014, illness in the family has dominated his life. Self-expression once again demanded an outlet. R M H Q is four albums conceived and recorded over a very short period, each of them carrying a distinct focus and mood.

ROY MONTGOMERY - 'Q: TRANSIENT GLOBAL AMNESIA'

Details
It’s been over a decade since Roy Montgomery’s last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return. Q: Transient Global Amnesia concentrates on hope and despair, sinking singular guitar lines into dark passages. It dissects the personal politics of sadness, reveling in the honesty of depression while seeking to fully explore its facets. Compositions trade between heartworn declines and spirited rises, collapsing upon themselves in unmoored confusion before achieving signs of relief. It culminates with the twenty-minute transfigurative finale “Weathering Mortality,” where all previous questions intersect toward an uneasy, churning acceptance. Montgomery was in his rock band period in the eighties, when the dark, minimalist post-punk of The Pin Group lead into the gloriously open-ended freedoms of Dadamah. ROY MONTGOMERY - 'M: DARKMOTIF DANCEHALL'
Formats
GY6-4 - LP

Details
It’s been over a decade since Roy Montgomery’s last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return. M: Darkmotif Dancehall is the most experimental of the four albums. Montgomery explores new guitar tones and song construction, allowing thick distorted murk and overdriven sharpness to guide the melodies’ paths. It’s a playful montage of differing masks with discovered sounds laying the groundwork for each track to develop a mind of its own. “Six Guitar Salute For Peter Gutteridge,” is a standout upbeat number providing a personalized roadmap to the beyond, honoring the innovative original member of The Clean who could cook up melodies from the most bizarre ingredients, and who passed away last year. ROY MONTGOMERY - 'R: TROPIC OF ANODYNE'
Formats

Details
It’s been over a decade since Roy Montgomery’s last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return. R: Tropic of Anodyne highlights Montgomery’s baritone lamentations on every track. It sets the blueprint for all of R M H Q while displaying Montgomery’s talent for brevity. His self-reflective lyrics remain personal, even answering the Rolling Stones’ classic “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” with the sobering “You Always Get What You Deserve.” Montgomery was in his rock band period in the eighties, when the dark, minimalist post-punk of The Pin Group lead into the gloriously open-ended freedoms of Dadamah. It’s been over a decade since Roy Montgomery’s last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return. This release contains four distinct records of new material. Listening to any of his work is a visceral experience— repeating phrases swell and decay, immersing the listener in the cyclical narrative of his compositions. Details
The Blind Shake, three intense men from Minneapolis creating dense, mystical music: in 1974, Bernie Taupin, feeling on top of the world as Elton John’s “Rocket Man” soared up the charts in 1972, suffered a sudden sense of vertigo outside the Spanish villa where he was vacationing. In a beam of black light he saw and heard the future of the future, a loud vision of The Blind Shake, making music that made Elton John’s “starman as everyman” song seem like so much pastel tissue paper, wet and dissolving in a pretty porcelain toilet. The real deal, Celebrate Your Worth is an intense web of connections of bands and sounds unknown to Taupin, strange sounds from Chrome through Bailter Space through Michael Yonkers and John Reis and with tendrils extending throughout an incredible universe of fantastic unknown bands and sounds. “What the hell am I doing?” Taupin cries, now on his knees, staring at the sky. Witness the Blind Shake in all their mystical, wonderful strangeness and energy.

CROCODILES - 'DREAMLESS'

Details
Comprised of best friends Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell, Crocodiles have earned their place as one of the United States’ most engaging, hardworking and consistent rock and roll bands of the past few years. Dreamless is the pair’s sixth LP, their most exploratory and focused release. Crocodiles’ first two albums made their home within a stew of fuzzed-out psychedelia, and the following three albums explored pop sensibilities placed against whirring guitars and barbed production, but on this latest album the duo’s artistic departure places their guitars in the backseat in favor of a more spacious, synthesizer and piano-driven sound. The title of the album works levels: “I suffered insomnia throughout the whole session. I was literally dreamless,” explains Welchez. “The past two years had been fraught with difficulty for us—relationship troubles, career woes, financial catastrophe, health issues,” he continues. “It was easy to feel as if the dream was over.” Recorded in Mexico City once again by friend and occasional bandmate Martin Thulin (Exploded View), Dreamless keeps the exemplary production on Crocodiles’ previous releases and reconciles their realigned focus on keys by pairing down the instrumentation to allow lyrical sentiments and themes to cut through.
