Nobody is more surprised about having created a full ANMLPLNET album than the group itself: Slothrust leader Leah Wellbaum and drummer / singer Mickey Vershbow . The two met while they were both immersed in the Boston music scene, and then went on to pursue separate musical careers on opposite coasts. Their debut album Fall Asleep truly displays their magnetic musical bond, even while withstanding physical distance and hectic schedules. The band was formed originally on a number of rules, including writing lyrics that are antonymic translations (meaning nouns, adjectives and verbs were replaced with their antonyms) and playing songs straight through as one giant piece, no breaks. The band seeks to create dream-like soundscapes, both epochal in scope and melodic . Their goal is to explore the space between songwriting and improvisation, and the result is an uncontrived melding of their personal styles and technical mastery of their instruments. Wellbaum and Vershbow basically plan, dig, then embark on a fresh road towards rock brilliance.

LONDON DIRTHOLE COMPANY - 'SUMMARINE 8.1'

Formats
  • RWR21 - CD
Details

The London Dirthole Company are back with a new slice of their poisoned bitter wretched world, where those naïve teenage dreams (so hard to beat) have been shredded to bits in divorce, disappointment and Dionysian delerium amid a capital city culturally crumbling amongst the demonic whims of the Neo-Liberal super elite and the ‘ghost tower’ apartment blocks left empty by their foreign investors. (Other cities may be used as similar examples of cultural ruination, but this is the London Dirthole Company after all). Cantankerously laughing in the face of their plight LDC have dragged 18 kicking, screaming and twisted tales in a manic 5 hour session, recorded in glorious Jonesound 8-track ruptured by a few minimal overdubs in the following few days. The rock solid line up of 3 drummers, 4 guitarsts, 1 bassist and 1 singer forming the initial 8.1 ‘everything bleeding on everything else’ tiny room surround sound alluded to in the album’s title. Provisionally entitled ‘Punk Rock Showcase’ it ended up being something greater than its proto-punked up parts, as befitting any band involving members of Headbutt, Atomic Suplex, God, Echobelly and 2nd Gen among the protagonists (plus the usual guest appearance from the Outsiderist Provocateur that is Sexton Ming). The resulting scientific sonic attack equation is part Monks + part Pussy Galore + part Rudimentary Peni + part Stingrays = All Dirthole + All over. Goodbye.
