Holy Now cherishes and renews an indie pop built around captivating melodies and heartbroken lyrics. Songs about an unwillingness to grow up and stay off. Timeless pop music with intimate melodies, yelling drums and sprawling choruses. Jangly fuzz pop where euphoria meets insomnia. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, the band (consisting of members Julia Olander, Ylva Holmdahl, Samuel Von Bahr and Hampus Eiderström Swahn), debuted in 2016 with the EP "Sorry I Messed Up". The follow up EP "Please Call Me Back" was released in 2017 and helped establish Holy Now as one of the more promising bands on the prosperous Swedish pop scene. Following the releases the band played at both festivals and clubs around Scandinavia and UK, earning them a reputation for their energetic and uplifting liveshow. In 2018 the band returned with the single "Feel It All" from their upcoming debut album "Think I Need The Light", release 27 April via Lazy Octopus Records & OK Tapes.

ALAM KHAN - 'IMMERSION'

Formats
  • AMMP201814 - CD

Details

Sarod, the 25-stringed North Indian classical instrument rich in resonances, plays well with others, but is best savored solo. Master player Alam Khan knows this, having studied at his father Ustad Ali Akbar Khan’s knee and taking up his style and lineage. On Immersion, he unfurls the instrument’s stirring beauty via several ragas, a tribute to his family’s accumulated knowledge and his own carefully honed artistic sense. Khan is a respected teacher and collaborator, a torchbearer of the Maihar gharana (musical family or clan) which was created by his grandfather Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan. Khan absorbed these facets by training since childhood with his father, who brought the instrument and greater awareness of Indian classical music in general to American audiences in the ’60s. “My father was a legend and his style was unique. What he passed on to me was a deep sense of that style, the feeling, touch, tone, all those kinds of things. Once I learned to emulate what he wanted me to play, I learned the reasons behind why I’m playing that. My father has passed on, but I want to continue his aesthetic and approach.” Part of that approach adheres to the essence of the raga and its connection to a particular time of day and mood. “Every raga was created for a certain time of day. When you play or listen to the ragas at the correct time, the full potential and wonder comes out,” he notes. “The traditional system of ragas and time is very important to my family and me.” Khan recorded Immersion as he would have performed live. He is accompanied by the traditional combination of Tabla (Indranil Mallick) and Tanpura (Khan’s student Benjamin Araki).

VARIOUS - 'WILD THINGS - SOCIAL END PRODUCTS OF THE WORLD UNITE!'

Formats
  • VOSTOK01 - LP
    TBC
Details

16 Kiwi freakbeat nuggets from 1966 to 1968 available on LP from DATE.  In mid 1966 John Harris of the Bluestars penned NZ's first punk single released by Allied International in September 1966. Now considered the holy grail of NZ freakbeat and sixties punk, the single is coveted by collectors of the genre worldwide. This was not the only 45 from NZ that encapsulated the following ... a defiant attitude, fuzzed out guitars, dandied up in the latest fashions of the day, topped off (usually) with the longest tresses. Originally released in 1992 on Flying Nun - this 2018 volume is the redux 26th Anniversary “Wild Things” collection of out of control, filthy & fuzzy mayhem from the ‘bottom’ of the world (Just ask Keith Richards & Viv Prince -both NZ tourists in 1965) . Kiwi teens out ‘prettying the Pretty Things with the Mod-ish fercocity of The Who and strong doses of Beck & Page–ish rave up isms. Armed with locally manufactured guitars and amplifiers overdriven through home-made fuzz boxes . These 16 skullbusting mashers were recorded under basic conditions in primitive studios. All in mono Transferred from master tape Inserts included. Compiled by John Baker
