Some bands just know how to hit the sweet spot. Elder’s second full-length Dead Roots Stirring, originally released in 2011, was an hour of fuzzed-out goodness, a plethora of uplifting psychedelic riffery that remains for many fans the band’s defining album. The strength of some bands lies in their ability to churn out record after record, never stepping outside of their comfort zones. For others, such as Boston’s Elder, it is a constant evolution that trademarks their sound. Beginning as a stoner/ doom band adept at equipping the styles of others, Dead Roots Stirring showed the young band emerging with their own unique take on heavy music. The album’s five long cuts unfold organically, never lacking in depth or ambition; guitarist Nick DiSalvo’s infectious riffs are equal parts uplifting melody and crushing fuzz that remind the listener more of majestic landscapes than bong sessions, while Jack Donovan (bass) and Matt Couto (drums) form a solid core of rhythm, never losing a beat. Listeners will pick up on Following the release of Dead Roots Stirring - which came out as the trio were just barely entering their twenties - Elder began touring both the United States and Europe, winning a reputation for themselves as an incredibly tight and powerful live band. Their second record continues to be a fan favorite and no live set is complete without the opening track “Gemini”, a headbanger of a song complete with thick grooves, flashy solo runs and a momentous ending - in short, everything great about Elder’s music: a journey within each song full of valleys and peaks. Dead Roots Stirring is available on Stickman Records on colored 180 gr. double-vinyl (including download) and CD, remastered for the first time since recording by Carl Saff. Highly recommended for all fans of heavy rock!

Elder’s self-titled debut album from 2007 was an impressive offering of psychedelia- tinged stoner rock and doom that set the tone for the band’s later progressive developments. This delux reissue features an extra LP of songs from the band’s first ever recordings, never before seen on vinyl. In 2006, three longtime friends and members of the small music scene anchored in the port city of New Bedford, Massachusetts got together with the mission of making music that was heavier and more brutal than anything happening around. The first version of Elder was an interesting beast, combining sludgy riffs, primitive black metal vocals and Genghis Khan-themed lyrics. After toiling in these murky waters for a year, band members Nick DiSalvo (guitar), Jack Donovan (bass) and Matt Couto (drums) shed their extreme metal origins and emerged with their first proper album, Elder, an album that would already establish the band as some of the best riff-dealers this side of Birmingham. As more recent works have demonstrated, Elder is no stranger to blending and bending genres to their will; Elder proves that the three teenagers were already dab bling with this idea in their incipient years. Imagine the massive riffs from bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard or Fu Manchu reconstructed to build epic psychedelic soundscapes and you’re on the right track. Growling, delay-soaked vocals and spacey keyboards add further touches of uniqueness to Elder’s brand of stoner doom. To celebrate the record’s 10 year anniversary, this reissue comes with a second LP containing the band’s first ever recordings from their early days. Originally released as an MCD in 2006, these songs have never before been given a proper release - a welcome addition for any hardcore fan. The entire package has been remastered by Carl Saff and presented on colored 180gr. for your listening pleasure.

Fresh on the heels of the band’s latest spectacular psych rock masterpiece, Stickman Records is happy to present a reissue of the long out-of-print second album by Weedpecker. Weedpecker formed in Warsaw, Poland in the early 2000s as a stoner rock band with serious melodic tendencies. Much in the same vein as now-labelmates Elder, the band has gradually traded riffs for atmosphere and progressive song structures, stepping further away from others’ footsteps with each release. On II, their aptly-titled second full-length, the band broadened their sound on all levels, and as a result dropped jaws across the stoner rock community in 2015. Weedpecker makes huge riffs that are majestic and beautiful, suspending them in oceans of reverb and psychedelic atmosphere. II takes less influence from the lighter side of psych rock than the record that followed it, opting instead for a grunge-tinged approach to their stoner epics. Brother guitarists Piotr and Bartek Dobry play off each other with an ease perhaps expected from family - offering twin guitar leads and chunky stoner grooves that melt into hazy, ethereal atmosphere in the next moment. On top of it all, sublime vocal harmonies complete the picture of a superb rock album that is both heavy and beautiful. II is available on vinyl including download and CD from Stickman Records on November 30th. 4 046661 595413 Fresh on the heels of the band’s latest spectacular psych rock masterpiece, Stickman Records is happy to present a reissue of the long out-of-print second album by Weedpecker. 4 046661

35007 - 'LIQUID'

Details

“..35007's third full-length release, 2002's Liquid, is a fully instrumental, conceptual effort consisting of just four songs that, one presumes, are meant to illustrate the fluid state in musical form. Not only do they succeed in this endeavor, 35007 also churns out some truly inspiring and out-and-out cinematic sonic vistas that in the end coalesce into a single, awesome musical wave (pun intended). Rising from the ocean depths on the cusp of slowly building synthesizers, 11-minute opener "Tsunami" eventually crashes like a million gallons on a beach of ultraheavy, stoner rock guitar riffs. Appearing to rock and sway with the ebb and flow of tides, ensuing numbers "Crystalline" and "Evaporate" take the shorter route to shore by locking into rhythmically rotating bass guitar figures that spray psychedelic accents in the surf. And in 14-minute closer "Voyage Automatique," 35007 attains a hypnotic trance-groove perfection, at once blissful and utterly seductive. Do away with all of these watery metaphors and Liquidstill stands as a major accomplishment in the ambient rock field, and a recommended introduction to both 35007 and the genre at large…” ALLMUSIC

GOLD VINYL REPRESS!!! Classic album alert… from 1997!!! “Dutch sonic experimentalists 35007's eponymous sophomore album (later referred to, more often than not, as Into the Void We Travelled) did much to fine-tune and expand the breadth of the group's style: a clever mix of analog and electronic effects and psych, stoner, and Krautrock influences. Opening statement "Herd" cleverly dissects society's disdain for individuality atop a hypnotic motorik framework spiced with electronics, while subsequent standouts like "Soul Machine," "Big Bore" (which is anything but), and the supremely danceable "Powertruth" bolster guitar riffing to stoner rock thresholds. All of these benefit from Eeuwout Baart's gritty, soulful vocals, which often bring Dave Wyndorf to mind and thus make "Monster Magnet tripping at a rave" a very apt description for the proceedings. ….Instead, the album's remaining highlights include the organ-laden "66" and the semi-epic "Undo," which, along with the closing ten-minute instrumental "Locker," bask in swirling, spacy synth effects for an ambient landscaping effect that would duly come to fruition on 35007's best-known opus, Liquid, some years later. ….“ ALLMUSIC

“I wanted to do something to honor the title track off of my debut album, Harlem River, turning five years old this year. Its been very good to me over the past half decade as well as a staple in my live show. I’ve asked Aaron [Coyes] from Peaking Lights to breath some new life into it and give it a remix and I’m very happy with the results. This December I will be performing an hour long version of the song featuring many special guests. I wrote the song to be about new explorations, and it continues to give me—year after year—just that.” —Kevin Morby.  PLAY IT HERE>>>WOW!!!! https://soundcloud.com/woodsist/harlem-river-after-hours-dub-1

VARIOUS - 'MORNING ECHOES: ECHOES OF THE GOSPEL'

Details

Founded in 1951 by independent record store owner and radio show promoter Ernie Young, Nashville, TN’s Nashboro Records recorded some of the most potent and forceful gospel music of the time period. Although initially begun in response to overwhelming demand for gospel locally, Nashboro quickly became nationally applauded for its curatorial prowess (under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Morgan Babb of the gospel group, The Radio Four) and signature production style. The lightly-reverbed, clear sound of a Nashboro record is unmistakable. The Morning Echoes, led by Willie “Slim” Ayers, formed in the late ‘40s, released their first record in 1951 and moved to Detroit in 1952. They started regularly broadcasting over radio station WJLB and became a part of the Nashboro Records family several years later. Echoes Of The Gospel was originally released in 1967 and was the first Long Playing record from these Motor City favorites. The Morning Echoes remained active in and around Detroit throughout the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s. The project officially came to a close when leader Willie “Slim” Ayers passed on September 17, 2013. This Third Man re-issue came into our world when TMR artist and friend Kelley Stoltz sent a well loved copy of Echoes Of The Gospel in gratitude for having him play the Third Man Pressing Grand Opening Party. His note read “Thanks for the fantastic experience! This one is a spirit lifter, In The Garden Of Eden does it for me. XO Kelley”. Third Man is now proud to cast a broader light on the beautiful Echoes of the Gospel and the Detroit-Nashville connection that it embodies. It is transferred with reverence directly from the original 1967 stereo mixes and remastered by Warren Defever. • Remastered by Warren Defever (Iggy and the Stooges, The Gories) • Transferred from the original 1967 stereo mixes • Our second foray into the rich history of Nashville’s gospel powerhouse label Nashboro Records
