**250 COPIES ON CLEAR VINYL FOR UK**“The closest we’ll ever get to heaven, with a stolen six pack from 7/11, and though the city sleeps I better she never dreams, she never dreams like you and me.” The beginning moments of Molly Nilsson’s second album Follow The Light now seem like the start of a personal mythology that was to reach further than she could have imagined. Few contemporary artists have so seeped into the underground pop psyche than the Stockholm-born songwriter. After releasing her debut These Things Take Time on hand-made CDrs, Nilsson’s follow up was a leap in scope and ambition. Of course, the personal takes on a tumultuous life in Berlin and the journeys to and from it inform the songs as before, but there’s a growing maturity in the songwriting in evidence. From the diary pages of These Things Take Time to a growing stature as a songwriter in touch with the universal, Follow The Light contains many of Nilsson’s now firm fan-favourites. The Closest We’ll Ever Get To Heaven is classic Molly Nilsson. Over plaintive piano chords and little else, Nilsson narrates a story of doomed friends lost, the onset of an East German winter reminding the singer of a time lost, nostalgia frosting the windows to the past. Meanwhile In Berlin, perhaps a passing nod to Leonard Cohen in the melodic refrain, opens up the sonic palette, with synth strings fitting Nilsson’s delivery perfectly. Never O’Clock is a pure pop moment, with a lilting funk and percussion adding a carpe diem immediacy to the album’s flow. Last Forever, which remains a staple to live encores now, seven years later, is fist-pumping melancholy that only Molly Nilsson knows how to do. It’s over before it begins and begs eternal repeat. Truth, a synth pop song that sees Nilsson exploring the upper and lower registers of her voice, feels like a lost chart hit from the mid 80s. I Hope You Sleep At Night, a vitriolic lover’s admonishment gives way to one of Nilsson’s most popular songs: I’m Still Wearing His Jacket. It’s a sentiment that needs no real explanation: the mementos of a completed love affair remain in our wardrobes waiting to hurt us all over again. Hello Loneliness could also be an updated Leonard Cohen song, a peon to melancholy which reminds us that Nilsson has a knack for distilling the complex into sharp epithets. We end on one of Nilsson’s greatest songs. A Song They Won’t Be Playing On The Radio is so finely loaded with emotion that it’s the singer’s reserved delivery that makes it so powerful. Follow The Light is the second installment of an ongoing Molly Nilsson reissue campaign and is the first time the album has been available on vinyl.

Melbourne psych-rockers Money For Rope release their second studio album Picture Us. Spawned from the same fertile Melbourne music scene which has fostered not only Courtney Barnett but also other friends including King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, The Goon Sax and Rolling Coastal Blackouts Fever amongst others, Money For Rope release Picture Us on the back of a dogged touring habit which has kept them on the road near constantly for the last four years. Entirely self-produced, mixed and mastered by the five piece, Picture Us was recorded over the course of a single summer in Victoria, Australia in a beach house next to the Southern Ocean. Throughout, Picture Us is shaped by the volatile stretch of coastline next to which it was written and recorded. Evidence of Aboriginal middens discovered nearby inspired the track Trashtown - with a sound landing closer to psychobilly, it explores the wrestling of the area from its indigenous people and the changes wrought by the dominance of sea-freight and commercial fishing industries on the Southern Sea coast. Elsewhere, the slow-burn of bruised album opener, Hold, was built around a percussion track the band created by feeding the rattling sound of a box of old sailing boat parts through an old tape machine. Whilst everything Money For Rope does is buoyed by a freewheeling ‘Why not?’ attitude - including a mini tour across India, and McKenzie honouring various live commitments following a motorbike crash by performing from a wheelchair - don’t be fooled by that derisive band name. ‘Picture Us’ thrums with the promise of one of Australia’s most hard-working and charismatic new bands.

*Limted to 300 copies worldwide* It all began in summer 2017 when Peter Broderick's former Efterklang bandmate Rasmus Stolberg invited him to perform at his new festival in Denmark, with the specific idea that Peter would play an entire set of Arthur Russell songs. As a long-time lover of Arthur’s work, Peter immediately accepted the invitation and began to learn a collection of Russell songs. Stolberg put together a band of Danish musicians to join Broderick on stage, and the festival performance went off without a hitch. Immediately after, Peter starting receiving invitations from other festivals, asking for the same thing — a full set of Arthur Russell songs. Even Arthur’s long-time partner Tom Lee took notice of these performances of Arthur’s work, and reached out to Peter personally. It wasn’t long before Broderick was invited to examine some of Russell’s archival work, and asked to do audio restoration work on the old tapes. Peter’s strong love for Arthur’s work grew exponentially as he dove into the psyche of his hero, listening to hours and hours of unreleased material. He discovered that some of his favorite Russell songs have yet to be heard by the masses, and felt inspired to learn some of these tunes himself. It was inevitable that Peter would record an album of his own renditions of Arthur’s songs. And there was no better place to do it than the state of Maine, where most of Arthur’s surviving family are based, and where Broderick himself was born back in 1987. With a large cast of friends and family, including Arthur’s niece Rachel Henry and nephew Beau Lisy, Peter set out to capture his love for Arthur’s music with a diverse collection of 10 songs, two of which have yet to be released in their original versions. Its cover adorned with an original painting by Tom Lee, ‘Peter Broderick & Friends Play Arthur Russell’ is a vibrant and joyful tribute to one of Broderick’s greatest heroes. Peter extends his deepest gratitude to all of Arthur’s family, friends and fans who have so warmly welcomed his own versions of these tunes. It is hoped that these recordings will serve to honor the truly staggering legacy of Arthur Russell.
