Black Peaches follow up their acclaimed 2016 debut with a dazzling display of musicianship on their explosive new album Fire In The Hole – released worldwide on May 17th, 2019. “Black Peaches existed inside me before I was aware of it,” says the band’s Rob Smoughton, also known as a member of Hot Chip and Scritti Politti. “It’s the culmination and continuation of the music I love. I started to notice how Brazilian rhythm, funk, soul, classic country and pop were all combining in the music I was writing, and I looked for other band members to join me to bring it alive.” And he found other members to bring that combination alive in Susumu Mukai, Charlie Michael, Nick Roberts and Thomas Greene. Together they released 2016’s acclaimed Get Down You Dirty Rascals and now return with an album that continues to throw genres together with all the seamless grace of a seasoned cocktail maker but free of the postured affectations associated with such moves. Black Peaches are a place where genres collide and musical eras meld. On their second album the band has absorbed all the tropical sounds, glistening melodies and funk-ridden grooves into a sound that is truly their own. “I wanted the combination and layering of our influences to be organic,” says Smoughton. “To create Black Peaches music. To take the ideas from the first record further into our own place.” The result is a record that skips with the vibrancy and buoyancy of a band still in love with the idea of bringing their record collection to life, but the band now understand themselves as much as the music that inspires them and have created something new and refined. Given the eclectic styles rooted in the make-up of the band, to enter into the world of Black Peaches is often to feel like one is flying from country-to-country with each new song. For Smoughton this musical traversing is a key part of the experience of the band. “I find the combination of mythology, history and geography to be romantic and I want our music to elicit the same thrill. I think the album conjures up the adventure of moving from one place to another; from Spain into Northern Africa, where North America tips into the South. Narratively the songs inhabit a place between the conscious and subconscious - between dreams and waking life.” This globetrotting sonic voyage creates a sense of the unknown in the record, where each track exists as a new and unpredictable path. This is all done under the mission of creating a record that is capable of pure musical transcendence. “I really believe that music has the ability to transcend and move people emotionally and spiritually,” Smoughton says. “Our music is not about the separation between musician and audience but about the space in between.” Yet the album also works on an intuitive and physical level. On top of its narrative of the world between the conscious and the subconscious, it is also simply a collection of songs to make you dance and move. Whether it’s the Delta blues influenced strut of “Lemonade”, the “slinky and naughty” dance floor pounce of “The Black Peach Boogie” or the Afro-Brazilian skip of “Cuatro Berimbau.” Perhaps the most emblematic song of all when it comes to capturing the essence, power and groove of the album is the title track “Fire in the Hole”. “It comes from a phrase that miners would shout it to warn others that they had charged an explosive,” Smoughton says. “It’s to tell you something is about to explode. In this case it’s about being unable to resist the urge to dance. About giving over to rhythm and sound.”

DREAMTIME - 'TIDAL MIND'
Formats
CFUL135 - LP (COLOURED)
Details
*COLOUR VINYL* Cardinal Fuzz are proud to bring to you the long awaited fourth full length LP from Brisbane Astral Travelers - Dreamtime. The wave has crashed, producing a million waves of sound, each breaking on the shores of your own TIDAL MIND. DREAMTIME have gazed deeply into the infinite depths of our earthly ocean bringing you their new opus: TIDAL MIND. Studying the interactions of liquids, plants and creatures of sea, DREAMTIME have listened carefully to the deep sounds of dark depths. From this sweet salty symphony, they have used their instruments not to play mere chords but to ride within these waves of sound letting our human ears drink deeply from the vast waters. Channelling distant echoes of krautrock masters into not only the sounds created but their approach towards recording spontaneous thoughts, feelings and jams; Kosmic music runs deeply in the veins of these five musicians. TIDAL MIND falls into perfect sequence in the progression of this band that feels no ties to conventional musical impressions cast down upon the masses by the mainstream. The band makes its own channel through the embrace of natural patterns creating unique DREAMscapes permanently altering ones perception of the world that surrounds us. Harnessing the perfection of analogue equipment while utilising modern techniques the band entered the studio and successfully laid down some ritual shit. The album sees DREAMTIME not content to reproduce previous sounds but press ever forward into the deep Kosmic unknown. TIDAL MIND sees the band return to the studio with Darek Mudge setting the controls for the heart of the ocean. Unheard sounds of unfathomable depths have been recorded/mixed and mastered so you can place the needle in the groove and enjoy them in the comforts of your own home. Pressed in an edition of 500 units and housed in a gatefold sleeve with a colour vinyl. Download Code Included

DEAD SEA APES - 'THE FREE TERRITORY'
Formats
CFUL132 - 2xLPs
Details
Following the dub-inspired ‘Sixth Side Of The Pentagon’, retrospective ‘Recondite’ and Adam Stone collaboration ‘Warheads’, the new album by Dead Sea Apes is their darkest, moodiest work to date, their characteristic unfolding instrumentals now cast in lonesome drones and haunted atmospherics. Taking shape in the shadows over the past several years, The Free Territory brings Dead Sea Apes’ more experimental and introspective aspects to light. Dysmorphic loops, evolving textures and improvisations are suffused with the hiss of old tape decks and analogue effects, and adherence to the default guitar/bass/drums setup is strictly optional. It also represents a transitional phase for the group, having been partly recorded with departing bassist Nick Harris. More recently, Nik Rayne of The Myrrors dropped in on a winter sojourn to the UK, not only guesting on two tracks but also creating the beautifully detailed copier collage sleeve art. Never ones to retrace their steps or be steered by voguish reference points, Dead Sea Apes here find themselves at unfamiliar co-ordinates with only their instincts for guidance. The Free Territory is both spatial and claustrophobic, massive yet weightless, grounded yet in constant motion; timeless yet reflecting and resonating with the age.

WALLOWS - 'LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS'

Details
*SHIPS FOR 5TH APRIL*Leading up to the release of their debut EP Spring, Wallows, the Los Angeles-based indie rock band, made a stop by the Third Man Blue Room in Nashville to play and record a set in front of a sold-out audience. Featuring Dylan Minnette and Braeden Lemasters on guitar and vocals and Cole Preston on drums, the group commands a sunny brand of indie rock reminiscent of the breezier side of The Strokes’ catalog. The recording kicks off with the enthusiastic screams and chants from the impassioned crowd as the band hits the stage, and the energy continues until the very last note is played. Notably, they cover material featured on their EP such as single “Pictures of Girls,” but also perform songs that were previously only available exclusively as digital singles like their debut track “Pleaser.” Thus, this 9-song live LP is the only way to enjoy these songs on your turntable, heard here with their absolutely requisite full-crowd enthusiasm.

RED MASS - 'KILRUSH DRIVE'
Formats
NC33 - LP
Details
RED MASS is a gathering of artists, musicians and agent provocateurs from around the globe. Created by ROY VUCINO (CPC GANGBANGS, PyPy, BIRDS OF PARADISE, NIGHT SEEKER, LES SEXAREENOS) as part of the 'Free Creative Enterprise' TA DA arts collective, its goal is to create punk music and art, in various mediums while incorporating techniques of automatic creation, chaos magic and liberation through art. To do so the Mass forgoes any allegiance to a specific scene, genre or sound. This method of working outside of the classic band format allows the Mass to work with as many international collaborators as it likes regardless of their experience, style or background. The present core of 'Red Mass' is comprised of Roy Vucino and partner HANNAH LEWIS. Eager to explore new soundscapes and to collaborate with musicians all over the world, the band has amassed more than 100 participating artists and musicians in its ranks. Collaborations with some of our idols, our friends, our family members and with strangers who wanna create something subversive. The means are the end in order to create freely, nothing is sacred in the sweet blasphemy of our art. In a splintered world, the group sees art and music as a way to bring people closer. It has opened itself to all. As above, so below. We welcome you to the Red Mass. Kilrush Drive was recorded by MINGO L'INDIEN from LES GEORGES LENINGRAD, JACE LASEK from BESNARD LAKES, SEBASTIEN PERRY and producer/engineer MARTIN BISI (Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop, Herbie Hancock). "The record was made with producer Mingo L’indien (Les Georges Leningrad) with some help from Besnard Lakes’ Jace Lacek and Martin Bisi (who’s worked with everyone from Sonic Youth to Herbie Hancock), and Roy incorporates everything from dark postpunk to hip hop inspired beats and more into his vision. We’re premiering the album’s fiery opening cut, “God’s House,” which thunders ominously with pounding toms and big, gothy riffs. (Stooges/Damned/Misfits are still prime influences for the band.)" - Brooklyn Vegan “Saturn” tumbles a driving post-punk pace into grizzled garage territory. The song is dingy and driven- streaked by night and looking for lust. The drums pound high, loud, and lethal, but like New Order or The Church before them, they don’t succumb to the tropes of paint-by-post-punk, giving the song a twist with an acoustic overlay and a weave of synths. The record picked up production credits from Mingo L’indien of Les Georges Leningrad and producer/engineer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop) and they’re definitely pushing the band into crisper territory than Red Mass has explored before." - Raven Sings The Blues

OOZELLES - 'EVERY NIGHT THEY HACK OFF A LIMB'
Formats

Details
Los Angeles supergroup Oozelles play weirdo punk rock with delightful saxophone and bongo accents, reminiscent of the Birthday Party boiling in a Death Valley heat or the Flesh Eaters experimenting with DC go-go tunes. Their live show is droll and nervy and danceable, and an essential sight to see. The A-side of their debut single “Every Night They Hack Off A Limb” starts off like the opening overture theme to a forgotten spy film, then surges into the percussion and sax-led, wired up titular refrain. The B-side “Human Trafficking” is a keyboard-driven soul-punk number made especially delightful with bizarro gremlin backing vocals and contagious singalong post-chorus.

ALEX CAMERON - 'LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO'

CF112 - LP

Details
“Here we have the final entry into our Live In San Francisco series: an intimate evening with Alex [Cameron] and his indispensable sax man, Roy Molloy (beard in briefcase) performing at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco, a very classy and lovingly maintained venue originally built in 1907 on Market Street, just a pube or two into the Castro District. “I was first introduced to Alex Cameron by Adam Beris, a real swell fellow who’s been drawing Castle Faces for us for years. He asked if I had heard of this “Suicide meets sad Springsteen” act and showed me the mysterious Geocities-style website (complete with shady porn ads). I was immediately hooked on the skeletal throb, the stark portraits of hard luck losers, the ego-maniacal squares, and the swagger on this prosthetically wrinkled Australian song and dance man. On a paid website, as he reminds us. Both sharp-witted and steeped in thespian courage, this is exactly what the world needed in this hungry, hungry time we live in. We got in touch, things led to other things, and when Alex was opening for Oh Sees at the Chapel in San Francisco we hatched a plan to make a live record, over white wine spritzers (as all the best deals are inked). “Al and Roy are the real deal, folks…and this wasn’t to be just any old show. I was determined to do something a little special, and I got the idea from working on John’s book of poster art (Exploded Globes) to bill it as a semi-formal, encourage people to ‘get dressed up and messed up’ as John puts it, and do it in a classy sort of hall, make it muy romantico. We got flowers from the Mission De Flores (who have sadly joined the ghost ranks of SF small businesses past), one of which made it to the cover, the champagne and fine wines flowed, and I like to think we helped San Francisco get a little luckier that night. There’s flower petals all over the mix here; Roy’s sax slinks sultrily, Al is in fine form, adding the occasional barb on the stem, sounding well oiled and comfortably bantering between tunes, and Justin Nijssen hangs back and window-dresses the whole thing with some well placed guitar and a few backups. These are professionals, need I remind you, hard workin’ road dogs with deep thoughts that inspire deep respect, and they put some dancing sweat on all the hits from Jumping The Shark as well as “Candy May” from Forced Witness, which at the time wasn’t yet out. We couldn’t be prouder of our final Live In SF disc, and it’s out on Castle Face Records in partnership with Secretly Canadian.” – Matt Jones

Guitar Wolf! They are the keepers of all blasted, hard, spazzed out songs, building a whole life on the bedrock of hyperactive RNR exhilaration. This Japanese power-group has been stupefying audiences at home and on the road since the late ‘80s and fi nally are back to unveil their capital-L loud jams. Third Man is fortunate to be releasing their lucky 13th full-length album LOVE&JETT and to have a hand in supporting Guitar Wolf’s noisy and canonical rise to their rightful place in underground music’s highest hall of fame. LOVE&JETT is full of Guitar Wolf’s sweet, sweet love songs, all recorded in Japan. While each song’s words (apart from a handful of song titles, 1-2-3-4s plus a clever cover of Spencer Davis Group’s Gimme Some Lovin’) punch out in their native Japanese, the adoring English-speaking public will be granted an insert enclosed in each LP and CD with all lyrics translated to English. (That means NO excuses to not have a haphazard bilingual sing-along on their upcoming US tour.) The energy explodes on the scene with the title track’s opening 1-2 bass-snare piston-fi re and truly does not let up at any point on the full album. Seiji, Toru, and Gotz shine especially bright on Sex Jaguar, barely clocking in just over 2 minutes with chorus catchphrases and feline roars. LOVE&JETT hits the streets May 10, 2019. It is the fi rst album recorded with newest Bass Wolf (IV), Gotz, who joined the band in 2018. A full US tour with Nashville Pussy is coming up from May 8-June 2. So with your heart fl ying high and faster than Mach speed, the untouchable legends Guitar Wolf are back to rush you away into another dimension.

AJJ - 'LIVE AT THIRD MAN RECORDS'

AJJ (fka Andrew Jackson Jihad) is one of the staple groups of American folk-punk in the 21st century. Singer/guitarist Sean Bonnette and bassist Ben Gallaty, with a slew of other artists changing record-to-record, command a strong cult-like fandom that nearly ensure fist-clenched singalongs at every live show, and this, now their third live document of their moving and affective show, was a damn great encapsulation.
