SHADOW SHOW - 'SILHOUETTES'

Formats
  • SBR069 - LP
Details

Hailing from Detroit, Shadow Show is a new sound in light of a new era. Sleek and spellbinding, the music sweeps you up into its frenetic psychedelic grooves and dazzling harmonies. Shadow Show pushes the boundaries of what can be, yet remains deeply rooted in the raw, untouchable Detroit sound. At the age of 17 they delved into a world where time no longer exists, where music takes its reign and everything else follows: Detroit’s music scene as it stands. It’s one of those things that remains almost as if it shouldn’t. Shadow Show started out in the dregs of the forgotten metropolis in a dark and transitional time for the city, playing in the basements of battered manors and inconspicuous store fronts. As the surrounding landscape changed, so did the soundscape the people of Detroit had created for themselves. Shadow Show, in its truest form, represents the love of a time long lost and the will of a time not yet discovered. A power trio of a mysterious hue, Shadow Show combines elements of 60’s garage-psychedelia into a 21st century modern pop-art incarnation. They project a vision to the world in their display: a spectacle of light as curious as shadow. Shadow Show, comprised of guitarist Ava East, bassist Kate Derringer, and drummer Kerrigan Pearce (also of Moonwalks), debuted in August 2018. Recorded in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Silhouettes is the self-produced debut endeavour of Shadow Show’s unique sound and vision. The 10-track album was recorded and mixed by Kate Derringer and mastered by Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs, Ghetto Recorders).

SUNFLOWERS - 'ENDLESS VOYAGE'

Formats
  • SBR068 - LP
Details

Sunflowers return with their third LP, 'Endless Voyage'. A conceptual sci-fi record about the end of the world, the rise of the machine, doubt about one's individuality and the acceptance of chaos. This is a story about the Studiomaster… an entity seeking out the decadent minds of mankind and warping their reality from within as it pulls you into its world. As you feel the calmness settle in, you begin to question your surroundings. The journey continues until you can no longer draw the line between your perception of reality and what the machine wants you to believe is real. A simulation where the user is always kept away from the world around them and kept distracted to the machine's plan. Don't get distracted, he might be listening in on your thoughts… You will be taken on a voyage with many ups and downs and you will beg to do it over and over. Listening to it, the classic psych punk, noisy pop sound that the band has been preaching has been polished and tamed (to some degree) with a fresh air of exploration into their sound. A ping pong game between pulsing drums, bouncy bass, reverberated echoes of vocals and loud schizophrenic guitars meet a mellower, smoothed electronic compositions that go deep into the band's musical knowledge. Truly a rollercoaster of a record, 'Endless Voyage' runs smoothly through its 40 minutes, pulling you in and out of a trance you forget your in. Then morning comes and you realise you’ve been fully gripped by it, leaving a howling hiss in your ears and your soul. The band recorded Endless Voyage during the summer of 2018 and spring of 2019. Recorded between Arda Recording Co., Casa do Soto in Arouca and their house in Porto. The sonic mayhem will be released through Bristol's Stolen Body Records and Poitiers' Only Lovers Records. Be warned and be prepared.

OS NOCTAMBULOS - 'SILENCE KILLS'

Formats
  • SBR067 - LP
Details

Os Noctambulos are back with their first album in 3 years! Their last album was the long sold out Stranger. We’ve made 2 very special editions of Silence Kills. Flowers Of Evil edition and Touch The Sun edition. There are just 250 of each edition available. What’s more boring than a band that forever plays the same sound without a hint of ambition to push their sound further, happy to play the same 3-chords for the rest of their dull career? Well, we’ll make sure to ask one of those bands next time they’re in town. Sticking to your roots and a sound is by no mean incompatible with a desire to grow and experiment and mimicry should never trump originality. What am I ramblin’ about? Well, I’m trying to make a point and I think the best way to illustrate that point is to give Os Noctàmbulos’ latest album ‘Silence Kills’ a spin. Despite remaining true to itself and the 60s sound they cherish — their characteristic reverb-drenched surf guitar, psych vibe and haunting vocals are all presents — the band seems eager to develop their sound and widen their influences. This gives this new batch of tunes a sense of freshness while retaining what made the band so unique in the first place. ‘Silence Kills’ shows a band building on its strong foundations to give their listeners something that sounds both familiar and unexpected.

KARKARA - 'CRYSTAL GAZER'

Formats
  • SBR066 - LP
Details

Karkara are an explosive power trio that furiously mixes garage / fuzz with middle eastern sounds, KARKARA is an unprecedented project that takes the gamble of glueing together the East and the West sound in a common goal: transcendence. Created in 2017 in Toulouse - France- under the idea of the guitarist and the bassist and inspired by the psychedelic rock scene of the Middle East and the Maghreb of the 60s and 70s, the band combines its traditi onal inspirati ons with a vicerale taste for the shatt ering sounds of garage fuzz and contem- porary krautrock. Even going so far as to use their favourite atypical instrument - the didgeridoo - the three members of KARKARA, like desert wizards, take pleasure in pushing the boundaries of the genre further and take their audience into a mystical and indomitable world. Their debut album «Crystal Gazer», recorded at Swampland studio and mastered by the American producer Jim Diamond, who had recorded and collaborated with the White Stripes in Detroit under Ghetto Records in the 90’s, is a hypnotic musical production inspired by the mystical folklores all around the middle eastern countries. With the collaboration of the illustrator Dead Flag who was an additional source of imagination, this 7 tracks LP of 41 minutes is a deafening psychedelic flood where the desert and the tribal atmosphere is omnipresent. The lyrics take the form of a mystical and narratives incantations that draw the thread of an epic journey that unfolds throughout all the album

SUO - 'DANCING SPOTS AND DUNGEONS'

Formats
  • SBR065 - LP
Details

SUO is the solo project of Brooklyn-based musician and artist Saara Untracht-Oakner (of BOYTOY). You might know we released BOYTOY’s album Night Leaf in 2018 which went on to sell out during their European tour. The songs on ‘Dancing Spots And Dungeons’ are a collection of various modes and a spectrum of emotions with a strong focus on song-writing and melody. Drawing inspiration from a range of artists including David Byrne, Prince, Lou Reed, The Supremes, Brian Eno, Grace Jones and Patti Smith. SUO creates something reminiscent and familiar, while simultaneously catchy and fresh. Her stage presence blurs the lines of feminine and masculine energy in a post-gender eruption of power, something beyond the constructs of social normality. This project is an amalgamation of more than 15 years of songwriting, 10 years of national and international touring and an insatiable craving for growth, exploration and creation. “Dancing Spots and Dungeons” was recorded in February 2019 at Pump House studio with producer and engineer Kyle Mullarky in Topanga, CA. SUO spent three weeks recording the collection of songs with Mullarky on bass, keys, guitar and percussion. LA’s go-to drummer Nick Murray (Paint, Thee Oh Sees, Sasami, Shannon Lay) played drums. Saara performed all the vocals and played guitar, keys, percussion. The record was mixed by Kyle Mullarky and Joshua Rouah (Kizmit studio, Brooklyn, NY) and mastered by Joshua Rouah.

REPO MAN - 'I CAN LIVE WITH IT IF YOU CAN, SON'

Formats
  • SBR064 - LP
Details

Repo Man are Bristol based noiseniks comprising of Bojak (vocals/sax/violin), Ant Brown (bass), Liam McConaghy (guitar) and Jesse Webb (drums). ‘I Can Live With It If You Can, Son’ is their third album, following 2015's Minesweeping and the first recording to feature new recruit Webb (also of GNOD/ The Final Age/ Anthroproph). The album was recorded with Thomas J Bryan at Jute Box Studio and mixed with Matt Sampson at Bink Bonk Studio. It was mastered by grunge god father Jack Endino. It represents the band both at their rawest and most expansive. From the clanging fuzzed out sonic whirl of 'Low Pursuit' dissolving into the death waltz jig of 'May I Interject', to the lyrical puzzles and bubbling synth rotor of 'Asexual and Spineless' and the languid menace of the title track, I can live with it if you can, son shows Repo Man hurtling further into respective streams of noise and compositional acuity. This culminates in 'Moaty' - free-form ambient jazz smashed open by the band at their heaviest. Building on their fierce live reputation - from supporting, among others, Lydia Lunch, Enablers, USA Nails, DUDS, Lice and GNOD - ‘I Can Live With It If You Can, Son’ displays an uncompromising clarity.

IVAN THE TOLERABLE & HIS ELASTIC BAND - 'RATIONS'

Formats
  • SBR063 - 2xLPs
Details

‘Rations’ is Oli Heffernan's twentieth album in 7 years as Ivan The Tolerable, now the main vehicle for his hallucinatory basement outpourings since the dissolution of the beloved Year Of Birds. After a constant flow of releases on labels like Third Uncle, Art Is Hard, Endless, Forward Fast, Ack! Ack! Ack! and more, he finally found his way to Stolen Body Records. Here he eschews his old group's acerbic brevity for a sprawling double slab of time-dilating chug and wail. Joined by Tom Carter (Charalambides) on cosmic lead, Kevin Nickles (Ecstatic Vision/Writhing Squares) on flute and saxophone and members of King Champion Sounds (with whom Heffernan plays bass and organ), the band ride the taut, rattling grooves out past Pluto every time. ‘Rations’ was recorded on three different planets during 2018. -Thomas House (Sweet Williams/Sloath/Haress) March 2019
