LADDIO BOLOCKO - 'LADDIO BOLOCKO 97-99'

Details
“The following story might be bullshit (drug use and memory enhancements): years ago I was sitting at home staring into the middle distance and the phone on the wall rang (that should denote how long ago this was). On the other end was the booker from The Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, who had never called me before. She was excited about the show they had that night and was calling people to invite them. Apparently the night before a band called Laddio Bolocko had played and were so mesmerizing, so strong that they had offered them the next night, which was open. I was intrigued as no band had ever warranted this invite previously to my knowledge. This was new and exciting territory.“I had my ass and ears handed to me that evening. Scorching, pummeling, deep waters ran over me as I stood, beer in hand, mouth open. My memory may be embellishing but I remember a sax as big as me, drums that were physically hanging on by a thread, and twin electric strings that reeled sinister sprites over my head in outwardly circular patterns. Aggressive, far out fractals burned in my brain. I had never seen anything like this band, and never have again.“That’s why it’s so shocking to wait around all these years for someone to pick up the thread and re-release these three perfect recordings on LP for the first time…and still be waiting. So, I’m happy to announce, Castle Face is here with a 3xLP remedy. We’ve been working with all the original members of Laddio Bolocko and sifting through to put together this concise LP box set of what is arguably their strongest home studio recorded material. Included here (for the first time on wax) are Strange Warmings Of Laddio Bolocko, In Real Time and As If By Remote.“Includes former members of Dazzling Killmen, Panicsville, the Psychic Paramount, and Mars Volta. For fans of Can, This Heat, The Residents, improvisation (really they are hard to compare, they are so singular in sound).” —John Dwyer

SEEDSMEN TO THE WORLD - 'S/T'
Formats
BMR128 - LP

Details
A collaboration between the cascading soundscapes of Detroit’s Infinite River (Joey Mazzola, Gretchen Gonzales, and Warren Defever) and folk troubadour Ethan Daniel Davidson, Seedsmen To The World enter with a slow-burning, hypnotic drone. Davidson’s haunting vocals evoke bygone memories; as the songs gradually unfold, each track lingers on the edge of the familiar. Through heavy waves of feedback and fuzz, the album opens to epic expanses of sound that crackle like half-remembered dreams. Seedsmen seamlessly blend the dark currents of drone with the mournful confessionals of American folk for an otherworldly ode to songwriters past, as intimate as it is remote.

STEVEN R. SMITH - 'SPRING'
Formats
SAB100 - LP
733102722715
Details
Long into his varied, restless recording life, Steven R. Smith continues to deliver moments of wonder. Spring, like much of his very best, explores small notions that shift and expand to reveal a private sort of grandeur. Joining Smith on Spring is Gareth Davis, the Amsterdam-based bass clarinetist and occasional collaborator of Machinefabriek, Merzbow, Elliot Sharp and Smith himself, and his presence here is crucial. The restrained interplay between Smith (on guitar, piano, percussion etc.) and Davis create a warmth and intimacy akin to Mark Hollis' masterful eponymous solo LP. Steven R. Smith has been a quiet force in underground psych/post-punk circles since the mid-90s. In addtion to a handful of classic releases under his own name, Smith is perhaps better known for the material releases under various pseudonyms (e.g. Hala Strana, Ulaan Khol, Ulaan Markhor, etc.) or as a member of cult acts like Mirza and Thuja. Spring is the latest entry point into his own particular version of cinematic composition.

FOUR PLUGS - 'WRONG TREATMENT / BIKING GIRL'
Formats
ITR2136105 - 7"
Details
Originally released in 1979 on their own Disposable Records, this record was the brainchild of John Irvine in the UK. The record was pressed in a tiny edition, was played on John Peel several times and vanished without a trace. An excellent example of the UK DIY scene of the time later popularized on the Messthetics compilation series. It ranks number 12 in the top 100 DIY singles list that ran in Ugly Things issue #78. We’ve repressed it in an edition of 400 on red, purple, double mint green and olive green vinyl.

THE JANITORS - 'NOISOLATION SESSION VOL 2'
Formats
CFLCR032 - LP
Details
In March 2020 The Janitors from Stockholm had their new album written and studio time booked in the north of Sweden - ready to unleash their latest shamanic fuzz meltdowns and follow up to the Horn Ur Marken album from 2017. Then corona hit and everything changed. The band figured they would go down into their own studio to work on those tunes some more until things passed over but instead they ended up recording other songs that turned into Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 released in 2020 including some of the best songs The Janitors ever produced.
