'We've always done things our own way and without any outside pressure,' says Paul Isherwood of The Soundcarriers. 'Making music like this keeps things fresh, you always lose something and gain something as you go along but I think of it as just another chapter.' There have been many chapters in the life of the band to date and each one is defined by the singular approach and style of the group. Since forming in 2007 the band - comprised of Isherwood, Adam Cann, Dorian Conway and Leonore Wheatley - have released three albums that position them as a distinct and unique force in British music. Eschewing fads and trends that come and go, they have instead focused on honing their own sonic world that glides between woozy psychedelia, immersive grooves, subtle pop and rich, enveloping soundscapes. They?ve consistently moved at their own pace and on their own terms and on their fourth album, Wilds, they return after seven years since their last. ?The sessions started in a cottage in the wilds so there's a literal meaning,? Isherwood says of the title. ?But figuratively we've pretty much been in the wild for the last few years as far as a lot of people are concerned.? The recording was staggered over a few different locations, from cottages to primary schools, before finishing in an art gallery. ?The beauty of recording in non-studio studios is you have the time for the unexpected to happen,? says Isherwood. ?Which is really what keeps you coming back for more.? As a result of the timeframe of the album, it?s one that has changed and grown a lot over the years. ?The record has been through a lot of stages,? says Isherwood. ?It's almost been circular. We started off wanting to do an album of more shorter, concise tracks and then sort of sidestepped into some more spacey ambient ideas so in a way the album is kind of a synthesis of the two phases, overall carrying on with many of the themes and influences of the first three but with a more focused approach.? The opening ?Waves? leaps out the gate with an infectious hook kissed by a touch of French pop before leaping into a devilishly catchy chorus and into a mini prog-like flute breakdown. It sets the tone for an album that is rich in adventure and unpredictability that manages to balance experimentation with accessibility. ?At The Time? is almost unrelenting in its grinding charge, managing to create a groove that cracks and pulses at the same time, ?Wilds? is a gorgeously floating piece of music that skips along with strutting bass as Wheatley?s vocals merge melody with texture magically. The closing ?Happens Too Soon gently stirs to life with an almost pastoral folk air to it, as it slowly builds into swirling psych pop rich in texture before reaching a rousing crescendo. ?I feel this album sums up a lot of our influences,? says Isherwood. ?There?s a strong folk influence in the sense of the actual songwriting but musically we wanted to create songs that were like those rare oddities you find on a bizarre charity shop record. A collection of "one offs" capturing a moment rather than trying to make a hit song.? This sense of it being an album of unique songs is clearly apparent throughout but it also maintains a natural flow and cohesion. This is something that stems from the band?s approach to songwriting for the record. ?A lot of the tracks started with a feel or groove,? says Isherwood. ?Then building it into a more concise arranged piece. We were conscious that we didn't want the recording to sound too over-polished so although a lot of the tracks were quite painstaking in how they evolved we wanted the actual recording to be quite raw and not be reliant on cutting things up or overly editing things. We wanted it to sound natural rather than perfect.?

*RESTOCKED IN TIME FOR SUMMER - RETURN COPIES VIA US DISTRO* Cult DJs/producers Flying Mojito Bros have pressed a super-limited double compilation of their most celebrated releases to date plus an exclusive new track. Known as the go-to guys for reworking all things Classic Rock and Cosmic Country, their much-demanded party weapons have been sucker punching dancefloors for the past few years and it’s about goddamn time they were put together in this beautiful vinyl package. The release features 15 tracks, loosely mixed to offer a continuous listen in line with FMB’s famed mixtapes, but also allowing DJs to beatmix as they please. With only 500 units available worldwide, these will sell in a flash and become treasured artifacts. While the re-edits masses repeatedly pick over the bones of soul, funk and disco, acid cowboys Flying Mojito Bros have created a name for themselves in looking uniquely to the vast, sun-baked, dust-caked libraries of Americana, Country and AOR for inspiration. Cosmic American Disco? Americana House Music? Whatever you call it, the FMB sound gloriously evokes the first summer of love meeting the second – re-imagining the likes of ZZ Top DJing the Haçienda, the Orb at Woodstock, or, fuck our best boots, Kenny & Dolly raving at Fabric. In addition to their current ‘Relatively Clean Ravers’ residency at The Social, FMB have found their DJ sets – always with a fat slab of unreleased new edits kept back for their own exclusive use – to be a hit among party people all over. Their music has turned party people loose in clubs, parties, poolside and late-night festival tents as far as Glastonbury, Bestival, Pikes Ibiza, Austin City Limits and beyond. FMB have worked their hoodoo on official remixes of Katy J Pearson, Flamingods, Raf Rundell (2 Bears), Black Peaches, Jouis, 77:78, Scott Hirsch, James Matthew VII, Jeffrey Silverstein, Rudy Norman, Gloria Ann Taylor and more – released on prestigious independent labels such as Heavenly, Paper Recordings and Ubiquity. The duo are no shrinking violets when it comes to visual art either: Whether DIY or through close artistic collaboration with the right brands, they’ve used their striking FMB brand to sell out many a limited run of cassette and merch drops, working with the likes of Vinyl Ranch, Ibiza Sonica, Patrón, Tito’s and Hikerdelic. What’s more, the trippy live visuals they’ve devised for their DJ sets elevates the music further still. Flying Mojito Bros have seen over a million streams worldwide and are priming a mushrooming US fanbase for a long-postponed, much-demanded 2023 headline DJ tour taking them from Texas to California. And if that’s not enough, original productions are in the making too.

LUBOMYR MELNYK - 'THE LUND - ST. PETRI SYMPHONY'

Details

In 1978 I arrived for my first time to Sweden, to the town of Lund .. and there I met a remarkable man named Jean Sellem who ran a tiny gallery in the middle of the town, "The Galleri St.Petri: Dedicated To Modern Art and Thought "... and he was one of the few and first people who saw the greatness and beauty of Continuous Music .. and since I was a complete "unknown" at that time, I really needed his moral support ! --- and he created with me, the idea of a huge work for multiple pianos ... three pianos .. in stages ... and it became as he had envisioned ! and was first performed on a small upright piano in 1978 in his gallery, and the piece was called THE LUND.St.PETRI SYPMPHONY .. becuase it was so symphonic in grandeur (once the three pianos came together ...) The Lund - St. Petri Symphony, from 1979, is the second album from Lubomyr Melnyk and the first composition for double piano which he released. In this work, the early minimalist tendencies which played such a major part in the emergence of Continuous music, are very significant and clearly evident. This Double LP set sold out within 1 year of production, Only 1000 copies were made. Original Release: 1980 Limited All Analog Remastering Recording

LUBOMYR MELNYK - 'THE SONG OF GALADRIEL'

Formats
  • SOS182 - LP

Reading Tolkein`s LORD OF THE RINGS saga was one of the greatest experiences of my life ... his amazing talent for words was mindboggling ... and the great topics he touched upon remain forever as the most important topics of life ... they are still most valid today .. and will be for all eternity. Everything he described through his magical words came to life before my eyes ! So it was most natural that he would inspire music within me ... music that I can not describe in words how it relates to the Saga .. but deep inside me, it all shines clear as a lamp-post on a dark street ... and it shines into my soul in many, many dimensions.....`` .... and on a technical note, this piece marked the first time I created Arpegge Melodies within Continuous Music !" In the ``Song of Galadriel`` Lubomyr Melnyk has created one of the great epics of piano music in our century, a work of visionary character, filled with haunting and delicate melodies that evoke the mystical world of Tolkein's `Lord Of The Rings`. SNAKE - 'UNDREAMS'

Formats
  • SOS214 - LP
Details

Heavily distorted guitar. Trashy drums. Filthy ol’ synthesizer. In the beginning of 2014 some noisy shit started to go down in a nuked out cave in Södermalm, Stockholm. And it went fast. Three old friends found each other in a new gang. New melodies, new beats and new noise. The new band turned out to be Snake. A venomous act with it’s roots in the most anti-digital garagepunk underground there is. Dark without being geeky emoish. Raw and hard without turning into a full on hardcore punk assault. It took Snake just a month to secure their first gig. And then the bookings started to poor in from all over Sweden, from Umeå in the North to more southern. In 2014 they’ve shared the stage with obscure acts like the Chinese punk terrorists Fan Zui Xian Fa, as well as hipster media darlings like Bass Drum Of Death. And now it’s 2015 and Snake has just been able to do their first proper recording, produced by Stefan Brändström in his studio “The Dustward”.

MARIN SKRGATIC - 'DAWN OF THE YUGOSLAVIAN PROG-ROCK ERA'

Formats
  • EVERLANDYU006LP - LP
    0710473185196
Details

Another lost musical treasure unearthed by the Everland-YU imprint! Seven years have passed since this material landed in our hands and we counted the days since we could give it the justice it deserves. Fully licensed and remastered from original master tapes, this chronologically arranged LP is a collection of previously unreleased radio recordings all of which have one thing in common: the unmistakably original musical ideas and vocal performances of Marin Škrgatić (1950-2014). Marin was a Croatian prog-rock pioneer, who as a result of a series of unfortunate circumstances, did not receive much recognition in the dawn of the Yugoslavian prog-rock era. In their prime, his groups were an active and well-acknowledged underground phenomenon, filling stadiums and music halls all over Yugoslavia. This material represents some of the first attempts to record complex progressive rock arrangements in Yugoslavia – sourcing heavily from local folk music, jazz, and classical influences. Interestingly enough, most of the songs presented here were dismissed as being too progressive at that time – by the largest Yugoslavian record company Jugoton. This gatefold LP includes thus far unpublished photos and detailed liner notes about the evolution of Marin’s groups resulting from interviews with former band members with whom we’ve uncovered some of the mysteries of Yugo-prog-rock’s annals. Release editor, liner notes, research: Dr. Smeđi Šećer Mastered by: Višeslav Laboš

*INSTOCK AND SHIPPING* The North-West’s legendary electro-prog-pop experimenalists a.P.A.t.T. are back with their first studio album in 6 years. a.P.A.t.T. are an English ensemble generally known for their avant-garde music and multimedia works. Redefining notions of failure and success with electronic art pop. Since their first release, (e.p.) in 2002 a.P.A.t.T. have released over 7 albums, numerous singles, 100’s of music films; received commissions from a Smörgåsbord of leading arts organisations, created a feature-length film and even starred in and composed for a BBC TV Sitcom. The last album Fun with Music (2016) saw the band more refined and focussed than ever… “Their most accessible work yet..in a freaky kinda way” said BBC’s Stuart Maconie. This album discusses the ‘I’ the ‘WE’ and the confusing notion of self. 6 years since the release of the last a.P.A.t.T. album and the world seems to have changed. “It’s different now” muses General MIDI when asked, “We were all doing something pretty similar in some respect. We changed. We struggled. We adapted. We grew. We felt more collective than ever…maybe?” ‘We’ is an adventurous collection of passing thoughts, barely laughable references, pop songs andsonic experiments. It’s a look at people. It’s a look within.
