Originally available in exceedingly limited quantities at live shows and via direct mail-order in 2008 as a hand-assembled 4 miniCDR set housed in a circular Thai Amulet case and never properly distributed, the material finally receives the wider re-release on vinyl and CD it so richly deserves. Only the second and sadly already the final release in his post-Coil solo guise as The Threshold Houseboys Choir “Amulet” sees Christopherson in a more playful mood than ever, don’t be fooled by reviews calling this suite of songs “incomplete” or “working stage”, these are rough little diamonds, often imbued with a bittersweet melancholy joy, unsurprisingly reminiscent of some of the final Coil offerings, but additionally steeped in exotica, inspired by his new East Asian home and the ghostly voices of his digitally generated choir (“a vocalist that wouldn’t crash”, as he would say). At times these tracks sound like a warmer, less analytically complex counterpart to the work he created simultaneously with CoH’s Ivan Pavlov in the celebrated Soisong project. Bonus tracks feature rare earlier THBC compilation tracks and a few previously unreleased exclusive sketches. Let’s be perfectly clear though, “Amulet” is not some half-finished cutting-room floor left-overs, it’s a genuine but very little heard fully fledged album released by Christopherson with some of the tracks performed live on his last ever tour, the unforgettable intimate Evenings with Uncle Sleaz.

San Francisco psych-pop legend announces new album, “La Fleur” out June 7th, 2024. Between outside musical projects, pushing past 50 years old and becoming a father for the first time, San Francisco psych-pop legend Kelley Stoltz has spent the past two years steadily writing and recording his 18th album, “La Fleur”. The dazzling 12 song collection will be released in June by Agitated in Europe/UK and Dandy Boy Records in the USA. “La Fleur'' finds Stoltz once again playing nearly all of the instruments on the album- though a new friendship with pop guru Jason Falkner has led to Falkner appearing on two songs, “Hide In A Song” and “Make Believer” respectively. There’s the requisite 60’s meets 80’s pop rock confections that Stoltz favors with a new focus on out front vocals and perhaps a bit shinier production. Pandemic era blues, politics and fatherhood are lyrical touchstones throughout. The album’s first single “Reni’s Car” is the jangle rock lead single based on an actual event of Kelley riding around Manchester in the Stone Roses drummer's car. The accompanying music video was shot (partially) on location. “About Time” marries Twin Peaks synths to Fleetwood Mac and Avalon era Roxy Music in a cautionary tale to Stoltz's young daughter. “Human Events” puts revolutionary prose to a Moody Blues strum that floats off into Osees territory …and do I hear a nod to Gershwin in there? During the 2010’s Kelley played live as a sideman with Rodriguez and Echo & the Bunnymen, as the 2020’s dawned he was invited to support Pavement on their big reunion tour. He’s also been heard playing drums live with Robyn Hitchcock as well as adding sitar to Hitchcock's last two albums. In 2022, Stoltz was championed with a live appearance on Marc Riley’s BBC6 show. As producer, he has recorded the new album by Brigid Dawson formerly of the Ohsees. In my ears, Stoltz rarely does any wrong, and these comparisons are only just that little fruit to get you curious- he is still one of a kind. An under the radar hero to a few, and still after all these great songs, deserving of more. Climb on the bandwagon - as ever it’s quite pleasing here. - GEORGE CLOUD San Francisco, CA 2024

Ever. Further inquiry revealed it was a handmade version of a steel tongue drum, made by her uncle for her niece, in the hopes that she would not only learn about music, but learn to love it. Neither of those came to pass. But what remained was an object whose sounds I couldn’t stop listening to. And couldn’t stop speaking to me. That afternoon, I spent a half hour completely detached from the world while I randomly tapped its various notes, until reality called again. As it always does. I knew I would need to do something more with that drum – not only for myself, but for its creator and creation. One morning, I sat down in my studio, the torrential rain outside nearly deafening through the open window, and let myself go. In the drum. In its sound and intent. In the rain that seemed it would never end. As I thought about all that had brought me back to the place where we existed together. About the life I had left but always wanted back – and all the joys and perils that come with wishes coming true. ZUR (‘Zhure’, party) is absolute cult and one of the most rare Yugoslavian disco funk albums, originally recorded in 1981, reissued on Everland Music for the first time since the original vinyl came out more than 40 years ago. The album was carefully and brilliantly remastered by grammy nominated sound engineer Jessica Thomson. Boban Petrović is a legend of Belgrade’s sophisticated disco funk scene from the late 70s and early 80s. Back in the second half of the 70s Boban started one of the first disco clubs in Belgrade and he was one of the biggest organizers of private house parties. The finest balance between Boban Petrović’s big-hearted party-maker-turned-philanthropist personality and his hustler one was achieved on ?ur. On ?ur, he is at home, in his safe place, since the parties, the music and the people are the first out of many things he had completely figured out in his life. He is at the top of his game, occasionally bothered by a casual heartbreak, but always feeling himself, coming out playful and fundamentally peaceful, satisfied and ready to transcend himself in order to put the rest of the world in the limelight. In fact, ?ur isn’t about the party, music, lyrics or its, hands down, beautifully balanced sonics. It’s about Boban and the funk he lived thoroughly. The funk before, but the funk he lived after this album even more so. All the ups and downs that he faced since the moment the first needle dropped on a ?ur record to this very day are on this album as the unwritten destiny of that lighthearted character he played. In short, ?UR represents the essence of underground club life in Belgrade from the late 70s, when the album was recorded. The quality of this trust is confirmed by the fact that Boban Petrovic’s music is still actively listened to today, not just anywhere, but at the finest club events. High end production and extremely authentic arrangements outside the mold of classic disco music, and lyrics that literally convey the vibe of his already jet-set lifestyle in Belgrade at the time. Shortly after his musical career, Boban Petrovic became a businessman of the conscious class. He was living in Spain on his own luxury yacht for years, he had a private airplane, a car park. But all this time living on highest class level he never lost his identity. In all his offices, yacht, airplane and everywhere was playing loud funk music and he was dressed like a musician who just finished or need to start a gig. Along the way Boban also wrote two books: Rokanje 1 & 2 describing the time when the album ?UR was created. The ?UR album is one of the the holy grails of disco funk music releases on a global level. Otto A. Totland shares a new full-length album due via Nils Frahm’s label LEITER. The sixteen-track collection by the Norwegian composer and self-taught pianist, who also performs as one half of cult ambient-classical-drone duo Deaf Center, is available on limited edition vinyl as well as via all digital platforms. It was co-produced and mixed by Frahm at his studio in the German capital’s famed Funkhaus complex. “Exin” follows 2021’s “Companion”, the final part of a trilogy of solo piano records that began with 2014’s “Pinô” and continued with 2019’s “The Lost”. Given their intimate, subtle nature, many of these compositions have accumulated remarkable streaming figures, but Totland’s musical miniatures are as emotionally eloquent as they are technically elegant, with this latest set proving no exception.
