K.LEIMER - 'PROXIMATE FORMS'

Suspended, broken, distorted, dismantled and reassembled on wavering, shifting timelines, the techniques used in Proximate Forms act as an audio exemplar of Merzbau and Decalcomania without a preconceived object. The music seeps through intermittent gaps, hinting at other voices, other structures, other phrases that appear and mutate as they become a part of the whole—or just fall apart. Instruments and tracks are subsumed, manipulated, re-sampled and remade in unbalanced and deep atmospheres in proximities near / far; placements up / down; tones pitched / atonal; paces slow / fast; changes familiar / unpredictable; events percussive / droning; voices dominant / receding—yet still assembling coherent yet transitory states. In “Ceaseless,” voices never truly align, but rattle and pulse against each other, only finding congruence amid uneven measures. “Rift” dismantles a single guitar stroke and compounds its timbres into a complete ensemble of frozen and repeating and random pulses. “Birdsong” becomes completely weightless, stammering through a choking haze of decaying trills. At the end, “Chimera” catalogs a condensed representation of the entire set. Across the ten tracks of Proximate Forms, K. Leimer guides and edits and processes and restates his work to invent a music which has never existed in any single genre. And he arrives again and again at a reliance on and an embrace of the absolute primacy of sound. K. Leimer’s Forms project is comprised of three collections emphasizing the free association of voices, pitches, effects, structure, and processing: Proximate, Resting and Muted Forms are scheduled to be issued throughout 2025.

Their sonic universe—ranging from raw garage rock to celestial pop and mystical folk—summons the spirits of the 60s while resonating with Motown soul and the defiant energy of 90s indie rock. THE DEATH WHEELERS - 'ECSTASY OF MOLD'

Formats
  • EZRDR205 - LP

Details

**GREEN / GOLD COLOURWAY**Back with their musky, technicolor splatter scuzz, The Death Wheelers don’t dare ease the throttle on their drive to create soundtracks to what would be the world’s greatest fictional bikesploitation and gore film fest. These Quebec-based zombie grease goons manage to evoke the sticky floor and stale popcorn smell of an old rundown Midnight movie theater with every stroke of a barre chord and bludgeoned snare drum. Theirs is a sound that does Herschell Gordon Lewis, Roger Corman and Russ Meyer proud. Whereas their previous albums evoked the buzzsaw surf riffs of Davie Allen, Dick Dale and The Cramps, with the thunderous groove of Motörhead, their fourth album finds these troglodytes veering hard into classic 80s heavy metal while still maintaining the compelling urgency of Italian gore gods Goblin. It’s heavier, nastier, more driving and… dosed with pure backwoods möld. In keeping with their B-movie aesthetic, the recording offers in-your-face, loud tones dripping with stench and nastiness. But it’s also some of the best produced vintage sounding underground metal you can get your claws on in these dystopian times.

Tracks

1. Loud Pipes Take Lives 2. Homicycle Maniacs 3. Hella Hammered 4. Un Pneu Dans La Tombe - Aide Musicale À Mourir 5. The Ecstasy Of Mold 6. Blood, Bikes And Barbiturates 7. Blue Nuit (Les Plaisirs De La Chair) 8. Way Of The Road 9. The Heretic Rights Of Count Choppula 10. Get Laid... To Rest

Juanita and Juan is a dynamic musical duo formed by Alice Bag and Kid Congo Powers, two influential figures in the punk and alternative music scenes who first crossed paths in 1977 during the early days of the Hollywood punk movement. Their friendship, rooted in a shared passion for raw, boundary-pushing music, has led to a new creative partnership that transcends genres and defies labels, although the two refer to their sound as “Loud Lounge.” Alice Bag, a founding member of the pioneering punk band the Bags, is known for her fierce stage presence and unapologetic, feminist approach to punk music. She has spent decades championing the voices of women in rock and advocating for social justice, both through her music and activism. Kid Congo Powers, an original member of The Gun Club and a key player in The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, as well as his own band, Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds, brings his audacious blend of noisy, psych-infused rock with a touch of glam. His unique guitar playing and distinctive style have made him a beloved figure in underground music circles. Together, Juanita and Juan blend their influences—Bag's fiery vocals and penchant for dark melody with Powers’ atmospheric, reverb-laden guitar tones—creating a musical landscape that is both nostalgic and fresh-sounding. Their collaboration captures the adventurous spirit of their punk roots while embracing new sonic territory. The duo’s chemistry is undeniable, with their musical partnership serving as both a testament to their enduring friendship and the spirit of musical exploration that began for the pair in 1976, proving that punk is not just a genre, but a lasting, ever-evolving attitude.

MATTHEW SHAW - 'THE TOWER'

Formats
  • BUTR123 - 7"
Details

The Tower is a 4 track EP of ambient electronic meditations. Recorded during a creative sabbatical by Matthew Shaw who spent two weeks as an artist in residence at the Curfew Tower in Cushendall, Northern Ireland. The Tower is owned by Bill Drummond of the KLF. For years Bill has sentenced artists to live and work in the Tower and to integrate into the community of Cushendall for the duration of their stay. Through an invitation via Caught by the River, so it was that Matthew made his way to The Tower. “October in Cushendall is cold, November even more so and this was the time I spent inside The Tower. My days were spent either composing and recording, or taking walks down to the coast, past a standing stone and back to a café and library for warmth. The music composed in The Tower was made using my daily experiences and impressions of Cushendall and the good people that call it home. I recorded squeaking doors, creaking steps, roaring fires, boy racers, snatches of conversations from the pubs, café and streets. My internation was part audio collage and part composition. The elements were then sculpted together into their final form. I used Bill’s unamplified gold flying V guitar, small hand held synthesizers and an old 1970’s Moog Prodigy, a loop and reverb pedal plus the natural ambience of The Tower itself. Whilst fighting the cold in as many layers of clothing as I could wear.” Matthew is an artist & author based in Cornwall. He has worked on performance and art installations in various locations including the Barbican, Charleston House, Bryn Celli Ddu, Barclodiad y Gawres, Glastonbury Festival, Sea Change Festival & The Social. He has collaborated with Brian Catling, Shirley Collins, Jimmy Cauty & Jem Finer, Mark Fry, Mark Stewart / The Pop Group, Jamie Reid, Richard Norris & Justin Robertson. Matthew's book of poetry and photography, Atmosphere of Mona, was published by Annwyn House in 2020 He is also a co-founder of Stone Club with artist and author Lally MacBeth.
