Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the debut long player from The Senior Service. A thrilling musical journey tinged with the filmic hues of bygone celluloid classics. Here you’ll find it all; excitement, action, romance, intrigue! Each song tells its own story – no words are necessary. As with all great instrumental music, it weaves its web of magic through the light and shade created from the brush of keys, plucking of strings and beating of skins, with the occasional splash of colour provided by brass, vibes and theremin (naturally) – this exquisite combination alone conjures up its narrative. A year or so back, Johnny purchased his first Hammond Organ. Being in love with the depth of sound and, yes, emotion, that flows, oozes and blasts from this monumental beast from an early age, it was time that Mr. B succumbed. There was a game plan – to form a band and attack the classics, tracks made famous by such giants of the Hammond as Georgie Fame and Booker T. It was a good plan and it was a plan that began to take shape. But then… …The band – four like-minded old friends sharing a love for the thematic majesty created by the likes of John Barry and Barry Gray – reconsidered and it was quickly decided upon to pen wholly original material, to follow in the colossal footprints of those sultans of the soundtrack. Colossal footprints undoubtedly, but the impassioned quartet of Johnny, Graham, Darryl and Wolf collectively lifted the hallowed mantle and strived to build their own set of purely instrumental tunes. What emerged was a collection of songs with an orchestral sensibility juxtaposed with an urgent garage rock crash bang wallop! It was completely unique but had a comforting familiarity that would take the listener back to the greatest scenes from some of their favourite movies. The fruit of these endeavours is now in your hand, packaged under the title of The Girl in the Glass Case – a title inspired by an original Wolf Howard poem. From the first unexpected crash of Snake Charmer that attacks you like the crack of a rattlesnake’s tail, to the final hushed piano coda of Bees, via the European flavoured intrigue of Into the Tunnel and exhilarating Mexican romance of Five Beans in the Wheel, you are completely immersed in the world of The Senior Service. So please indulge and enjoy. The Girl in the Glass Case awaits you. Roberto Rocket February 2016

**CLEAR VINYL** An album by Billy Childish's CTMF! 'the reason we didn't sound like the Smiths is because we wanted to sound like this' 40 years ago, Billy Childish, then a 16 year old working in Chatham dockyard, imagined a group called 'the Chatham Forts', and so started a journey through punk rock from 1977 to now. Along the way this painter/ poet has released over 140 independent LPs. (SQ 1 is something like his 150th - no one knows for sure.) As always great lines are delivered with deadpan humour: “The reason we didn't sound like the Smiths is because we wanted to sound like this” is Billy's reply to all the reviews of his band's work during the '80 and '90s - in the days when they stood all but alone as 'the kings of garage rock' (New York Times). SQ 1 could be seen as a manifesto of punk rock defiance, a celebration of musical independence or simply a true document of home made rock and roll delivered as art, not commerce. (Few artists have demanded and exerted so much control over their output as Childish. As with his previous LPs, all designs are undertaken by the group, from song writing, recording/producing, track listing, and LP design.)

The Undisputed Kings of Garage Rock! **Reissue of their long out of print classic!** “Ripping off the Non-Entities of Yesterday, Influencing the Stars of Tomorrow...” So it was written on the back sleeve of Conundrum on its initial release, almost a decade before The White Stripes and The Hives broke through. How prescient they were! Thee Headcoats were mainly Billy Childish (Git/Vox) Bruce Brand (Drums) and Johnny Johnson (bass), they formed in 1989 after Billy’s previous band Thee Mighty Caesars gave up the ghost. By 1992 they had already released something like 6 albums and 15 singles. This is a reissue of their classic album from 1993, originally released on Steve Turners (Mudhoney) legendary garage label SUPER ELECTRO RECORDS in the USA and later by Billy Childish’s HANGMANS DAUGHTER Records in the UK. It features two of their classic singles ‘Every Bit Of Me’ (originally a Damaged goods 7″) and ‘Girl From ’62 (a Regal Select single from 1991), It’s been unavailable for nearly 20 years so it seems like a good time to put that right. “Every Bit of Me" alone has enough rough-voiced and snarling garage punk power to shame wannabes half the age of Childish, and that's just the first track of 14. His witty, blunt, and passionate views on life, love, and lust are as strong as ever, while the band sounds particularly great, still embracing the rough-and-ready ToeRag Studio sound but cutting the musical crap and kicking out jams like nobody's business. Details
HOLLY GOLIGHTLY IS BACK… With her first full band album since 2004’s Slowly But Surely! Though the last decade has seen the London-born singer relocate from the Medway delta to the southern state of Georgia, USA, she returned to Blighty late last year to record a new solo album at London’s Gizzard Studios with Ed Deegan at the controls. Holly first came to musical prominence as a member of Thee Headcoatees, a Billy Childish/Thee Headcoats all-girl splinter group in 1991. Four years later she broke away from the garage punk scene with the release of her debut solo album The Good Things, which featured a mix of folk, early electric blues, & '60s beat influenced rock 'n' roll. It's a template that she's honed over the course of 13 solo albums, along the way impressing celebrity fans such as Jim Jarmusch (Holly's track “Tell Me Now So I Know” featured as the main title theme in his Broken Flowers movie), and most notably Jack White who duetted with Holly on “It's True That We Love One Another”, the final track on the classic White Stripes album Elephant. Though it's been 11 years since her last solo album, Holly's been busy as half of blues/Americana duo Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs (The Brokeoffs being multi-instrumentalist Lawyer Dave). The pair have released a string of well received albums, and undertaken many tours on both sides of the Atlantic. Slowtown Now! features 12 songs that will please fans old and new alike performed by the perfect Holly Golightly band line-up of Bruce Brand (drums), Matt Radford (double bass), Ed Deegan (guitar) and Bradley Burgess (guitar). Holly, it's good to have you back!

DAMGOOD439LP - LP

Details
The band was originally composed of twin brothers and former Gnidrolog members Colin Goldring (vox/git) and Stewart Goldring (git/vox) using the pseudonyms Vilos and Horrendus Styles, respectively – alongside Scabs (aka Nigel Pegrum of Steeleye Span) (bass git), Germun LePig (drums) (later replaced by Bonk aka. Rocky Rhythm) and Mack E. Valley (keyboards). He was later replaced by Guardian Angel prior partway through the recording sessions for the second album. Combining a Buzzcocks-style pop punk sound with bawdy subject matter, gross-out toilet humour and profanity in their songs, the band released their debut single “Bend and Flush” b/w “Throbbing Gristle” in 1977 on Wood Records, a subsidiary of Caroline Records UK created specifically for the band. Due to the lyrical content of their recordings, the band struggled for airplay, though it was known that BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel was a fan. The true identities of the Pork Dukes were originally a closely guarded secret, the band playing in pig masks during live performances. Various rumours circulated amongst fans and in the music press that the band was actually Led Zeppelin, Steeleye Span, The Rezillos, Fairport Convention or Tenpole Tudor in disguise. It was also suggested that either Keith Moon or Dudley Moore may have been lead singer. The controversy surrounding the band and backlash from feminist groups led to them being unable to find a management company to represent them or perform at large venues (gigs were frequently played unannounced at small community centres to avoid protesters). Towards the end the band were reduced to playing gigs at mental institutions (Vilos Styles was training to become a psychiatric nurse at this point) to entertain the patients. Following the release of the Pink Pork album and three singles on Wood Records, the band broke up in 1979, with the album Pig Out of Hell being released posthumously by Wood in 1981. Bonk (aka. Rocky Rhythm) later played for The Revillos, Tenpole Tudor and The Damned frontman Dave Vanian’s Phantom Chords.

Reissue of long out of print girl band classic! British garage pop girl group, the Del Monas began life as the Milk-Boilers. If that moniker sounds suspiciously similar to that of the Billy Childish and Mickey Hampsire-led Milkshakes, it’s no co-incidence: The trio got its start by singing backup on the lads’ recordings (and dating the boys in the band). Sarah (who went with Mickey Hampshire), Hilary (with Russ Wilkins), and Louise (with Bruce Brand) took the lead on a rendition of the Beatles’ “Boys” before striking out on their own with a couple of four-song EPs in 1984: Comin’ Home Baby (popularized by Mel Tormé) and Hello, We Love You (actually the Doors’ “Hello, I Love You.”) In both cases, the Milkshakes served as their backing band and Childish and Hampshire wrote most of the originals. For these EPs, the girls were re-christened the Del Monas (originally two words) by Bruce Brand. The name was inspired by various R&B song titles (eg:The Queen Bees, the Monas) and was finalised as The Del Monas after Bruce saw a record by the Del Capris in a shop window. The following year, the Delmonas released their first full-length recording, Dangerous Charms, which contained a new version of 'Comin' Home Baby', the remaining EP tracks, three outtakes, and five numbers from a radio broadcast (it was later re-released as with additional material from another BBC session from 1988). Interpersonal tensions resulted in a recording gap of several years and a revamped lineup for 1986′s follow-up, Delmonas 5! Louise had since left the group and Hilary and Sarah had renamed themselves Miss Ida Red and Ludella Black. The new lineup cranked out a louder, harder-hitting sound for their next album “The Delmonas”, released in 1989. It featured Dangerous Charms’ lost title-track and a couple of earlier numbers redone in French. Do the Uncle Willy, released later the same year, was the band’s final musical document. It compiled material from previous releases, a couple of alternate takes, and a new version of Thee Mighty Caesars’ “Lie Detector.” On all of their recordings, the Delmonas mixed cover versions from the ’50s and ’60s with original compositions that sounded as if they came from that era — upbeat ravers in the spirit of the Shangri-Las, Lesley Gore, Nancy Sinatra, and other tough-but-tender girl acts. If they didn’t quite have the vocal range of those artists, they made up for it in attitude and enthusiasm. This spirit was carried over into the Headcoatees, which included Black and Holly Golightly (now Brand’s main squeeze), Kyra Rubella, and Bongo Debbie. This new band would fulfill the same function: as backup to Thee Headcoats and as a band backed by them. In 2000, after both groups had called it quits, Black released her first solo album She’s Out There (backed, not too surprisingly, by Hampshire and Brand, with whom she had begun her musical career). Ludella continues to play live and release records along with The Masonics (Who are Mickey Hampshire, Bruce Brand & John Gibbs). Her second solo album ‘From This Witness Stand’ was released on Damaged Goods in 2008. Fans of The Delmonas will be interested to learn that a new girl group – The Shall-I-Say-Quois – (featuring Ludella Black, ex-Headcoatee Kyra Rubella, and The Buff Medways'/MBEs' Nurse Julie), have recently released a 6 track 10” EP on Damaged Goods.

CLAP YOUR HANDS, STOMP YOUR FEET… THE BOYS ARE BACK! Giuda (pronounced JEW-DA) are an Italian Glam/Glittler/Boot Boy band from Rome, born from the ashes of one of the finest European punk rock groups: Taxi. They play the most exciting kind of retro-sounding pub rock and junk shop glam and they have the look of true working class heroes (boots, polos, chequered shirts, leather jackets and short or shaved hair)… actually they are the perfect party band, but with a tough attitude. We released their debut album 'RACEY ROLLER' last year and now the band are back with 'LET'S DO IT AGAIN'. Giuda is a five-piece band from Rome, Italy. Their mix of anthemic ‘70s glam hooks and the punchy delivery of early UK punk, has stunned listeners all across the globe. Their debut album “Racey Roller”, famously described by Robin Wills (The Barracudas) as “Cock Sparrer twinned with the Equals”, has quickly become an underground sensation, highly praised by publications as diverse as Mojo, Rolling Stone and Maximum Rock’n’Roll. “Racey Roller”, recorded with vintage all-analogue studio equipment by studio sorcerers Ufo Hi-Fi, and graced with an iconic cover art courtesy of French designer and glam fanatic Tony CrazeeKid, was extremely well received when we released it last year. Working from the same glammy three-chord blueprint as groups like Slade, T. Rex, Faces, Mud, Status Quo, and the Sweet, Giuda take you back to a monumental bygone era of rock’n’roll. Specifically the early 70′s pre-punk, glitter days when music was all about monstrous riffs, boisterous attitudes, high energy experimentation and fun. Giuda take that same glammy, proto-punk foundation and fuse it with the grimy, tattered muck of bands like Third World War, Eddie And The Hot Rods and Cock Sparrer to create a timeless arsenal of glam injected, pub rock classics. The story of Giuda begins in 2007 and is inextricably connected with that of Rome’s punk rock integralists Taxi. When Taxi’s career was cut short by the tragic passing of their drummer, singer Tenda and lead guitarist Lorenzo regrouped as Giuda. The current lineup is rounded out by guitarist Michele adding a second layer of boogie sparks to the mix, while bassist Danilo (himself from an early incarnation of Taxi) and drummer Daniele constitute the groovy yet solid rhythm bedrock without which no good r’n’r could ever be created. Self-confessed Giuda fan Phil King (Lush, Jesus And Mary Chain) wrote in Shindig!: “their performance transported me back to the heady days of watching punk groups play in the back rooms of dodgy London pubs in 1977″. Robin Wills agrees: “This is the most fun I have enjoyed watching a live band since The Fleshtones in their prime. This is no single minded retro trip, but pure energy, loud, tight and concise.”

22 TRACKS 3 JOHN PEEL SESSIONS HELEN McCOOKERYBOOK’s BAND AFTER THE CHEFS SPLIT UP RARE AND UNRELEASED TRACKS After The Chefs split in the early 1980s, Helen McCookerybook (former bass player and vocalist) retired briefly from playing. She was introduced to Lester Square, who had just left The Monochrome Set, and they started working on her new songs, which were Western-inspired. Rehearsals with a full band proved too expensive and Helen resorted to rehearsing on guitar, with the sax and trombone players from the new band. In this form, they supported The Monochrome Set at Kingston University and went down so well that they decided to keep the format. John Peel’s producer phoned to ask what Helen was up to, and their first Peel session ensued. They went on to tour the UK and Holland, recording two more Peel sessions and playing every type of gig from pogoing punks in the Midlands to a graduation ball with waltzing students at London’s Café Royale. They have remained in contact, and the band and Helen are delighted to be able to release their archive of sessions plus an album they recorded on their own label, on Damaged Goods

THE DEBUT ALBUM FROM BILLY CHYLDISH'S NEW BAND CTMF In 1976/ 77 the ‘shortly to be’ Billy Chyldish, as well as being head of research in the counties first fortress study group The Medway Military Research Group, was working as an apprentice stonemason in Chatham dockyard. After seeing a feature on punk on the London Weekend show Billy thought he wouldn’t half mind being the singer in a punk rock group himself. Childish duly left work and suggested to a few old secondary school mates that they should form one pronto. “What about a name?” they asked, “simple”, answered Wild Billy, “we’ll be called CTMF.” Button Nose Steve, who was to shortly give Billy Chyldish his punk moniker – and even owned a Woolworth’s guitar, and Dave Marsh, a form mate who said he might buy a drum kit one day – both nodded slightly. 36 years later, and CTMF have finally come into being. no ones sure where Dave Marsh now is, but button nose Steve is busy feeding pigs and ducks on his small holding in New Romney and Billy Chyldish, with other mates, has recorded an LPs worth of material – and half a dozen 45’s for different destinations around the globe – utilising lyrics first jotted down for the original CTMF line up in 1977. Billy describes CTMF group as “the epitome of modern”.and their sound as “the sound of yesterday, tomorrow” All of their records are released under the moniker CTMF. Some say this stands for Copyright TerMination Front, others claim it is simply short form for Clarity Through Fuzz .There have been numerous rumours that Jimmy Cauty plays bass and that it is none other than Bill Drummond that can be heard on Xylophone. Billy, however, muses that though he is indeed friends with Jimmy Cauty – and has in the past been in correspondence with Bill Drummond – he has never knowingly heard of the KLF as he “gave up on music after punk turned crap at the end of 77”. People in the know can vouch that all this is in fact truth

RE-ISSUE OF THE LEGENDARY DEBUT GORILLAS ALBUM FROM 1978 CD first time on digipak! The Gorillas livened up the mid-70s rock scene like few others. They were the missing link between Hendrix, glam and punk. Interest in Jesse Hector and The Gorillas (originally The Hammersmith Gorillas) has grown steadily in recent years in no small part due to Caroline Catz' documentary film, A Message To The World, the Gorilla Got Me compilation on Big Beat Records and the recent Crushed Butler albums re-released on Last Years Youth Records. The band also featured heavily in Wired Up!, last years' excellent book of proto-punk and glam record sleeves. Unavailable for some time, we're now re-issuing their debut album. 3 BONUS TRACKS not featured on the original Raw Records release ("I'm Seventeen" "My Son's Alive" and the classic single "It's My Life".)

10 year anniversary re-issue of Holly's greatest album with 2 BONUS UNRELEASED tracks! It's been out of stock for a while so we've decided to make this re-issue a little bit special. Often cited as perhaps her best solo album Truly She Is None Other was recorded in 2002/3 at Toe-Rag Studios by Liam Watson and features the song 'Tell Me Now So I Know' which was picked for the main title theme for Jim Jarmush's 'Broken Flowers' movie. Among the nine Holly originals the album features two Ray Davies songs ('Time Will Tell' & 'Tell Me Now So I Know'), along with 'There's An End', (penned by her friend Craig Fox from The Greenhornes.) There's also a fine version of Jessie Mae Robinson's 'Black Night', a song most famously covered by Muddy Waters. Backed by the cream of Toe-Rag's in house musicians, this is Holly Golightly at her finest. With sleeve notes by none other than Jack White III.

The most talked about band at last year's Rebellion Festival was without a doubt Cyanide Pills. They took to the stage unsociably early on the Saturday afternoon and gave a truly amazing performance that cemented their reputation as one of the country's best, kick-ass live punk pop/new wave bands. Their self-titled debut LP came out in 2010, and now the lads' second album Still Bored is ready to hit the shelves. It's a storming 17 track punk pop blast dealing with alienation, despair, politics and impotence. There's also a punk rock/geography/history lesson with “Johnny Thunders Lived In Leeds”. Cyanide Pills will be doing a mini tour in the UK in April with dates in Germany to follow in May. Like their debut album, Still Bored was recorded at The Billiard Room in Leeds by Wedding Present producer Carl Rosamond.

It’s the TWELTH album they’ve released in a career dating back to the late 1980s, The Loins began having a laugh 20 years ago with two utterly live, mono, vinyl only LP releases on Billy Childish’s gorgeously Luddite record label, Hangman. Ever enduring outsiders, it’s likely they are now the world’s longest serving, truly amateur, original musical group. Their very creative strength is derived from ordinary lives of day jobs, families and mortgages. Perversely un-ambitious, they remain untainted, uncorrupted, and above all else, still doing it for the reason they started doing it - Love. This album marks a change in the bands sound, nothing too drastic but it’s a bigger, ballsier sound, probably due to the addition of John Forrester on double bass plus a few others at the recording and the ever great, Jim Riley at Ranscome in Rochester…my dear!. The cover is a painting by long term friend of the band, Billy Childish,, taken from his latest show at Chatham Dockyard.

Holly & Dave decided to re-record some of the old Holly Golightly songs from her solo days that they had been playing for the past 4 years or so and this is what they came up with, a great album. We asked Holly about her reasons for making this album…”After many requests to incorporate the best of the solo Holly Golightly songs into the live set, with top-notch backing provided by The Brokeoffs, I have picked some of my original band favourites and recorded this collection for old and new fans alike. The highlight for me was the chance to re-record ‘(You Ain’t) No Big Thing,’ the fantastic 1966 Sam and Dave classic that I first started performing live in 1995. It’s one of my all time top tunes, along with ‘My Love Is,’ the fabulous Little Willie John number, which we’ve given a wistful lone banjo accompaniment this time around. There is an even mix of cover songs and originals to revisit, all of them corkers in their own right and all of them especially dear to me. ‘Long Distance’ is collection of my good-time-foot-tappers and sing-along-tear-jerkers. It’s my top ten tracks prepared from scratch and served up fresh.”

“Adventure Time” is the third album from Seattle’s Cute Lepers who, as I’m sure you know, are a six/sometimes seven-piece band from Seattle in the USA, equally influenced by first wave punk, mod-revival, power pop, with the spirit of Johnny Thunders...together with occasional hints of doo-wop, early 60's rock 'n' roll and a load of female back-up vocals. Led by chief songwriter Steve E. Nix & Kicks (yes that’s Steve E. Nix & Kicks from seminal Seattle band The Briefs!). After a couple sold out singles and lengthy tours of the United States and Europe, summer 2008 their debut album "Can't Stand Modern Music" was released on DG in Europe and Blackheart Records (yeah... the label Joan Jett started up a few decades ago!), it combined the attitude of punk rock, the style of mod, and the polished sound of pop. The album went on to win the Best Punk Album category in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards. This was quickly followed by their second album “Smart Accessories” and another huge world tour. Their third album follows the same strict rules for classic pop-punk and Duncan Reid from legends ‘The Boys’ wrote a the track ‘77’ for the band after seeing them in Europe last year.

Ever enduring outsiders, it’s likely they are now the world’s longest serving, truly amateur, original musical group. They’re certainly the fucking best. STUFF is the 11th offering of bare-knuckle folk from the Medway Delta. Their song writing is steeped in the British & European traditions of Punk, Folk, Music Hall, Character, Chorus, Cabaret, Melodrama & Buffoonery. Perhaps their very creative strength is derived from ordinary lives of day jobs, families and mortgages. It’s hypothetical, of course, but would Morrissey, Bono, Albarn, McCartney, et al. have continued unabated in the face of such utter indifference? Would they fuck. Perversely un-ambitious, they remain untainted, uncorrupted, and above all else, still doing it for the reason they started doing it - Love. So, Ladies & Gentlemen of the press; don’t spoil things now. Whisper your astonishment and keep the release of this awesome recording firmly under your Fedoras. I thank you. Shorebird Crick Esq. Talulah Gosh were an Indiepop group from Oxford and one of the leading bands of the twee pop/C86 scene, their name came from the headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan. Formed in 1986, their original line-up comprised Amelia Fletcher (vocals, guitar), her younger brother Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter Momtchiloff (lead guitar), Rob Pursey (bass) and Elizabeth Price (vocals). Holly and Lawyer Dave's their third album together as Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs. ‘Medicine County’ was written and recorded on a farmhouse just outside Athens in Georgia and as Holly says it’s “peppier” than the last album, in fact there’s only one slow song on the whole album which is probably down to the fact that this time they had a lot longer to work on the songs and recording, their last album was recorded in the middle of a very long European tour over a week or two in Spain. So what does it sound like? Choc-full of ghostly blues, gut-bucket slide guitar, with a smattering of ol’ time country. This is just the disc for conjuring up the spirit of weird old America. Anyone with an interest or liking for the music of The Band, Son House, or Hank Williams, sung by Nancy and Lee, should certainly check it out! Holly’s mum painted the cover, which adds to the warm home-spun appeal. 12 brand new songs including a cover of Wreckless Eric’s ‘Murder In My Mind’ and a guest appearance by Tom Heinl on ‘Blood On The Saddle’ (Tom wrote Holly’s Christmas track ‘Christmas Tree On Fire’)

Details
“Smart Accessories” is the second album from Seattle’s Cute Lepers who, as I’m sure you know, are a six/sometimes seven-piece band from Seattle, WA equally influenced by first wave punk, mod-revival, power pop, with the spirit of Johnny Thunders…together with occasional hints of doo-wop, early 60’s rock ‘n’ roll and a load of female back-up vocals. Led by chief songwriter Steve E. Nix & Kicks (yes that’s Steve E. Nix & Kicks from seminal Seattle band The Briefs!). After a couple sold out singles and lengthy tours of the United States and Europe, summer 2008 their debut album “Can’t Stand Modern Music” was released on DG in Europe and Blackheart Records (yeah… the label Joan Jett started up a few decades ago!), it combined the attitude of punk rock, the style of mod, and the polished sound of pop. The album went on to win the Best Punk Album category in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards. Now their back with their second album “Smart Accessories” follows much the same path, 13 new tracks including the recent single ‘Berlin Girls’ along with 12 other future punk-pop classics.

Reissue of a great lost album, a collaboration between Holly Golightly & Dan Melchior that was originally released on Sympathy For The Record Industry Records from California, it’s been out of print for around eight years and Holly & Dan thought it was about time we put that right. Recorded in London and Californian in 1999 with long time friend Bruce Brand on percussion this album features 10 tracks, some of which you’ll know if you’ve seen Holly play in the last decade like ‘Directly From My Heart’ & ‘Further On Up The Road’ but here they’re given very warm re-workings. If Dan Melchior is new to you then here’s a brief history, he was born in England, now based in the states, his first album was with Billy Childish (Devil In The Flesh), he made another 15 or so plus loads of singles, he played in Holly’s band for years and his ‘Broke Review’ albums came out on ‘In The Red’ records, his current combo is ‘Dan Melchior und Das Menace’ and he’s rather good.

THE SINGING LOINS - 'UNRAVELLING ENGLAND'

Details
The Singing Loins waee back with their tenth album, proving that genius is nothing more than gritted teeth and enduring patience.‘Unravelling England’ features 12 brand new songs recorded as demos over a period of 18 months on a mate’s cheap digital machine. It was soon apparent that the energy and imperfection they’d captured should be released as it stood. Chris Broderick & Chris (Arfur) Allen started The Loins as a raw, stripped down acoustic duo in 1990 and soon had Medway legend Billy Childish in their corner. He recorded their first two albums live in his bathroom onto a mono Revox tape machine and released them on his Hangman label. These savage rarities are now swapping hands for big dollars on EBay and are often quoted as major influences by young purveyors of punk/folk. After a couple more self-released albums and an album with Billy Childish on Damaged Goods, they split in 1999. After a 6 year lay-off they shook hands and returned in 2005 with a triumphant comeback album, ‘Songs To Hear Before You Die’, and a year later were joined by Rob Shepherd, who played junk shop banjo and mandolin on their 2007 album, ’The Drowned Man Resuscitator’. Since then the group have gone from strength to strength with full blown sell out tours of Eastern Europe, Germany & France, plenty of American indie radio plays, and an ever increasing fan base all over the world. Joined on ‘Unraveling England by double bass player, John Forrester, The Loins offer up another dozen short stories from the end of old England’s pier. Songs of underdogs, suicides, circus freaks, the bereaved, frustrated and heart-broken, the washed up and mentally ill. The jealousies, violence, hypocrisy and religion of humanity. And some pretty good tunes, too!

This is pretty much the line-up which recorded Holly’s classic ‘Truly She Is None Other’ album and features are Bruce Brand on Drums, Eric Stein on lead Guitar and Jack Lawrence on Bass. Ko And The Knockouts appear on the encore tracks. Details
After a year of touring and the release of their ‘Travelled And Unravelled’ EP earlier this year, the Gaolers returned to the studio in July 2008 to record their follow up to the critically acclaimed debut album ‘Soundtrack To The Daily Grind’ with their second album ‘Triple Distilled’ at Ranscombe Studios in Rochester, Kent which is due for release in October 2008. ‘Triple Distilled’ is made up of 12 blistering new tracks with fairly autobiographical lyrics telling tales of their life on the road, drinking and smoking. As usual they are the amalgamation of Graham’s tuneful and aggressive songs, driven with an energy and attitude, which has been perfectly captured in a simple no-frills studio recording. Buzz couldn’t make the recording so Johnny Barker (Ex of The Buff Medways) has stepped in and will also be part of the band that hits the road again around the albums release for another European tour and a headline show at the legendary 100 CLUB in London on October 29th A single ‘Begging You’ will be out just before the album backed with an exclusive b-side called ’Sitar Spangled Banner’ Dan Elektro from the great US band The Woggles is on drums. GRAHAM DAY – Founder member of The Prisoners, Prime Movers & The Solar Flares as well as drummer in The Mighty Caesers and bassist in The Buff Medways alongside old friend Billy Childish. The NME said of their first album… ‘The first release by his new band The Gaolers is so freakbeat crazed it will have Russell Brand and his child-scaring hair running back to Hogwarts, and is all delivered with a paint-stripping intensity which makes The White Stripes sound like The Feeling. Someone get this man out of the Cult Hero clink and into the charts, fast. Legends have been made of less.’

Back with their second album. I’m sure you already know that Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs are Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave (A one man drum & guitar extravaganza). Since their debut album, ‘You Can’t Buy A Gun When You’re Crying’ (DAMGOOD283LP/CD) they have been touring the world including two, three month tours of the States and one 2-3 month hike around Europe including Holly’s biggest ever tour of the UK. They stopped off in Spain to record this album in late May and it follows on really well from the first album, in fact it’s an even better album with tracks like the first single ‘My 45’ (Damgood314) a great song about marital bliss and a re-recording of their last single ‘I Wanna Hug You, Kiss You, Squeeze You (Till my arms fall off). Here’s what Holly & Dave have to say about the album… “In the studio...This particular project was recorded in the middle of a 50 date tour during the only break we had. That week found us in Gijon, Spain on the Northern coast. We had chosen to record there at an analog studio by the name of Circo Perotti which is outfitted with a lovely selection of vintage microphones and loads of ancient outboard treasures to play with. After wrangling with all the ghosts, goblins and gremlins that inhabit gear and studios of this nature, the record was completed in five days... which is one more day than we spent the last one, so it may seem a little over produced to some! While we must admit it was probably not the most carefully recorded string of sounds ever committed to tape, we do feel that it suits the songs. We were a bit weary and dirty. If you listen close, you'll hear the mud on our shoes on more than a few tracks. This record is called "Dirt Don't Hurt", because it doesn't. It was produced by us.

Wild Billy Childish and the Musicians Of The British Empire are back with a brand new album ‘Thatcher’s Children’. This is their third album in as many years and has 12 new tracks including the title track, which will also be available in an alternative version as a limited 7” (Damgood 311). The front cover has been designed by legendary Sex Pistols cover artist Jamie Reid. The back cover has a lovely picture of Maggie in her best Churchillian pose! We think this is their best album to date and probably one of Billy’s best ever, as usual the songs are fast and furious with biting lyrics and wry observations on today’s world.

BILLY has been releasing records since 1979, HOLLY has been releasing records since 1990, in 1999 they got together for a collaborative effort which originally came out in the USA on Wabana records. IN BLOOD is a great album, pretty much ignored in Europe the first time around, it’s subtitled ‘ONE CHORD! ONE SONG! ONE SOUND! But it’s so much more than that, tracks like ‘Demolition Girl’ & ‘Step Out’ roar out of your stereo, really great dirty one chord (with many notes) blues songs with vocal trading, clanging guitars and backed by the Medway Delta Review, which features, Bruce and Johnny of Thee Headcoats as well as Johnny Gibb of the Wildebeests. While simplicity, repetition and sheer rock & roll minimalism are at the heart of the album, ‘In Blood’ never ceases hold interest. It's just plain addictive.

Details
Steve E Nix & The Cute Lepers debut album ‘CAN’T STAND MODERN MUSIC’ is released exclusively in Europe on Damaged Goods. The album is very poppy-punk mix of influences from Mod, Power Pop and New Wave, think of The Cars first two singles, The Jag’s Back of my hand, The Boys first two albums with a good measure of The Chords thrown in and you’ll get the idea. The Cute Lepers are heading over to Europe for a full tour in May 2008 including a date at Londons 100 Club on the 6th of May. Who are the Cute Lepers I hear you ask…? Formed by Steve E Nix & Kicks from The Briefs (who are taking a break for the next year or so) along with Zache Out on Guitar, ‘Tude & Yelps, Josh Blisters, Drums and children, Bent Rewd Leper III on Vox, Tambo, Big Handclaps, Analisa Leper, Vox, Tambo, Medium Handclaps & Miss Meredith, Vox, Tambo, Little Handclaps. From their MySpace page…The Cute Lepers: Originally the idea for the band was that it was to be something equally influenced by first wave punk, mod-revival, power pop, and a retarded reverence for Johnny Thunders… oh yeah, with occasional hints of doo-wop, oldie rock’n’roll and a load of female back-up vocals. I still think this is an excellent idea, but as the band has really come together over the last few months, I am starting to think a barbershop septet composition may not feel out of place. We’ve got one album “in the can”, and we’re currently looking for a home for it. In the meantime, when not playing shows, we’ll be cruising vintage vespas, hanging around greyhound bus stations, contemplating hairdos, and working on the next album. It’s gonna be a blast, and artistically… hey, sky’s the limit! We’ve got a lot of voices to work with and we happen to know some very stylish horn players. Thanks to everyone who picked up the first single and we’re looking forward to beating our songs into your heads on tour in 2008! —Steve.

A Reissue of the classic live album from 1993 of Wild Billy Childish & The Blackhands tour of Holland which of course features their great version of the Dad’s Army theme ‘Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Hitler’ So here it is again, dear listener: Live In The Netherlands. Recorded live on one Microphone on tour in Holland in May 1993, this musical gem is the stuff of which myths and legends abound. Billy Childish, having heard the Blue Fields Express, wanted his own broken down engine of a group and put out the word. And so they came, from near and afar. Kyra, practicing her Spanish and rattling the pots and pans. A man who didn’t normally drum to play drums. A trumpet player nursing several stitches from having a glass thrust into his face the previous night in a dubious drinking den at the wrong end of town. Miss Ludella Black, dropping in to sing a few numbers during her lunch break from selling fruit and veg on the high street. Shamus, from south of the Thames - having never met the rest of the ensemble, getting lost in the streets of Medway, banging on the wrong door of the wrong house in the wrong town for 2 hours then whipping out his accordion and busking along regardless. And then of course Billy, stringing up his fathers 1910 banjo, picking in open G and singing in what he imagined were the tones of the lost looking for solace. Thus are great moments born and sometimes recorded for those of us who like our music – as well our bread - stone ground and cut thick with the crusts. Calico Jack, December 07. Above Chatham Reach.

Pete Molinari is a British folk and blues singer/songwriter, originally from Chatham in Kent. Born in to a large Maltese, Egyptian and Italian family, his early influences were 1960s folk musicians such as Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly. Molinari was also inspired by the writing of Jack Kerouac which led to him heading to New York. “A Virtual Landslide” is Molinari's second album, released in 2008. Recorded at the Toe Rag Studios, Molinari worked with producer Liam Watson to use a full band sound and therefore modernise a classic style and sound. Pete Molinari has received acclaim for his work from some of the music world's most recognisable artists. These include Ray Davies, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Yoko Ono. Indeed in 2013 at the Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Pete Molinari accompanied Yoko Ono on stage, singing the classic John Lennon songs “Woman” and “(Just like) Starting over”.

Get your Headcoats on again… Cos it’s time for four re-issues of long lost Thee Headcoatees albums that were originally released on Vinyl Japan in the 1990’s. The Headcoatees were Holly Golightly, Ludella Black, Kyra Rubella & Bongo Debbie, they released seven studio albums, a singles compilation and a split live album with Thee Headcoats. Thee Headcoatees played live along with Thee Headcoats from 1990 – 1999 when they split followed a year later by Thee Headcoats. Holly Golightly has gone on to release 13 solo albums and too many singles to mention, plus notable guest appearances on records by Rocket From The Crypt, The White Stripes and Mikabomb. Ludella Black was a founder member of legendary Medway band the DelMonas and has also released two solo albums with another planned for 2008 and is currently out on tour with The Masonics. Kyra Rubella released one solo album and singles on quite a few labels in the 1990’s, she also did a single with Armitage Shanks in 1996. A second compilation of rarities and oddments from The Revillos! vaults! So many years after the demise of The Revillos, can there be any music rotting in the vaults that hasn’t already been regurgitated? I thought we had pretty much exhausted our spare tunes with the From the Freezer CD back in 1996. But, shortly before he passed away, I convenedwith guitarist Kid Krupa to review some of our still-parked material, and we were encouraged enough to the exercise. As we made our selection, the brief we gave ourselves was to not present yet more versions of our already over-represented songs like Motorbike Beat or whatever, but instead to showcase as many rare, bizarre, unreleased out-takes or alternative versions as possible. This compilation has only been possible by sifting through every one of my boxes of tapes from the shed and the attic to rediscover such oddities. I also checked tracks from some other band members and associates. Understandably, the sonic quality of most of this material reflects its provenance, yet their patent rarity warrants these tracks’ inclusion: indeed, almost all the material is culled from solitary existing cassette sources. With a lot of damage, including glitches, drop-outs and missing sections, many of these performances were only preserved owing to the digital diligence of Kid Krupa; plus post-production work by myself and Vince Santini; with further mastering tricks squeezed out by Turan Audio in Oxford. The band line-up was quite fluid across the timeframe of these recordings, which were captured between 1979 and 1994 but, generally, Eugene contibutes vocals and sax, Fay sings and plays Farfi sa and I play Premier drums on all tracks. Additionally, all songs feature Kid Krupa on guitar and Vince Santini on bass unless otherwise noted. Backing vocals are supplied by Revette Cherie, joined by either Babs or Drax – except for Scuba Scuba and I Wanna Be Your Man – which feature Frankie and Polly Revette. So – ladies and gentlemen of the jukebox jury – is this project a valid or inappropriate act? In my defence, I firmly believe this aural presentation to be a worthwhile endeavour. The aim was to assemble a final set of rarities to make an interesting collection of material available for completists. But in the final analysis it falls to you to judge. I have merely placed the evidence before you, the Supreme Court of The Listener. What is your verdict?

The Buffs live and in session at the XFM studios Wild Billy Childish & The Buff Medways split up in 2006 after releasing 4 albums in 5 years, one each on Damaged Goods & Vinyl Japan and two on Graham Coxons ‘Transcopic Records’. During that period they were regular guests on John Kennedys XFM show ‘Exposure’ doing three studio session and a live broadcast ‘Exposure Live’ from the Barfly club in London. This album captures the best bits of those XFM sessions, side one is all from the Barfly gig including one of the funniest mouthy stage invaders ever and side two is all tracks live in the studio, John Kennedy has done the sleeve notes and Billy compiled the album. The first session features Graham ‘Cocky’ Coxon on drums.

The Brokeoffs are Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave. They have been mapping this record out for years. And now, at last, good luck has landed them in the same place, at the same time, for just long enough to make their debut album. 'You Can't Buy A Gun When You're Crying' was lovingly recorded at Ramshackle Studios during New Year celebrations in 2007. It is a winding, dirt track of a record. It's pitted with potholes, but they're walking it with ease. They're enjoying stumbling along, tipping grit from their boots and soaking their sore feet in the creek. The Lawyer and Holly proudly present their first joint offering and invite y'all to join them on their travels awhile.

PORK DUKES - 'BEND AND FLUSH'
Formats
DAMGOOD280P - 7"

Details
Limited edition reissue of the Pork Dukes debut single on 7 inch picture disc. Formed in 1976, the Pork Dukes were ruder than the Sex Pistols, but didn't achieve the Pistols' notoriety. Playing incognito, there were rumours the Pork Dukes featured Keith Moon on vocals, members of Led Zeppelin, The Rezillos, Tenpole Tudor, Steeleye Span and even Dudley Moore. Only some of this was true. The Pork Dukes released their first single 'Bend & Flush' in the heady summer of 1977, and the rude content and cover of the single helped it sell over 20,000 copies. Although the notorious Pork Dukes had three UK indie hit singles and two album releases, they received no radio airplay. That's not surprising, because the band offended society with sexy song titles, like: Throbbing Gristle; Making Bacon, My Mother Gave Me A Gun For Xmas, I Like Your Big Tits, Let's See If It Fits; and Telephone Masturbator. The late, legendary UK DJ John Peel, on his Radio One show, remarked that "the Pork Dukes would have hits with their infuriating catchy singles, were they not so manifestly unbroadcastable!" But even a nod of approval from Elton John at the time didn't help: the curiosity surrounding the Pork Dukes afforded them cult status but after releasing two albums the band split in 1979. In the last four years since the band has reformed, three re-released albums have been followed swiftly by a new single, mostly featuring artwork by the renowned UK low-brow fetish artist Vince Ray. The single, 'Pop Stars', was produced by Kid Krupa, the guitarist from 1970s band The Revillos, shortly before he died in 2005. And now the band's merchandise - designed by UK low-brow fetish artist Vince Ray - has become very collectible. Clearly, since the heady days of punk a number of people could lay claim to being the rudest singer/band. But no-one does it with the panache, humour and fun of the Pork Dukes. The band has a tongue-in-cheek, punk-fuelled sing-a-long live act that captures the imagination of both sexes - providing you're open-minded and like a good laugh, because the Pork Dukes were aural sex. They were, and still are, the cream of the obscene. We put out the 'Kum Kleen' (Damgood 229) album a couple of years back which featured a lot of unreleased Odds & Sods from the last 30 years and now due to Vinyl Japan calling it a day we have re-issued the compilation 'All The Filth' with 4 extra tracks taken from last years 7" on Bin Liner records.

They’ve been described as grossly underrated – Portland Mercury USA, but they’re not bitter. If you want to know the truth that’s what’s kept them jabbing all these years, getting better and stronger. Now they release their 9th album, a bone crunching left hook, on premier indie label, Damaged Goods. Broderick & Allen started the Loins as a raw, stripped down acoustic duo in 1990 and soon had legendary cuts man, Billy Childish, in their corner. He recorded their first Spartan albums live in his toilet onto a mono Revox tape machine and released them on his Hangman label. These savage uppercuts are now swapping hands for big dollars on ebay and quoted as a major influence on the growing punk/folk movement. A bout of onstage sparring resulted in a 6-year lay-off until they shook hands and returned re-girded in ’05 with a straight right to the bread basket: “Songs To Hear Before You Die” was immediately hailed by discerning rags as the dog’s bollocks. New to the stable is Rob Shepherd who bought a shed load of nicked traditional instruments to the proceedings. He’s a good boy. Now get your lugholes round this latest bout of life and the living of it – drinking, fucking, stupidity, tenderness, religion and death. Do yourself a favour and take it on the chin. They were: Chris Broderick – singing & percussion. Chris Allen – guitar & singing. Rob Shepherd – guitar, banjo, mandolin, accordion.

THEE HEADCOAT SECT - 'READY SECT GO!'

Details
Line Up: Don Craine – guitar, vox Keith Grant – bass, vox Billy Childish – lead guitar Johnny Johnson – harp Bruce Brand – drums THEE HEADCOATS SECT is the inevitable intersection of two generations of mad-hatted Punk R & B misfits with musical and philosophical lineage that can be traced back over more than 30 years. The Donwliners Sect were among the country’s foremost rhythm and blues groups, their most prolific period being the years from 1964 to 1966. As is often the case, they were denied the sort of success they deserved – they were outcasts, too young, too uncouth, and just a tad too eccentric to be accepted by their peers. As the Melody Maker said of their debut album in 1964: ‘forget this one if you want a Happy Christmas, and don’t want to drive all the guests away from your party’….Today, however, to fans of raw, vital punk R & B, the Donwliners Sect are revered above and beyond any of their tamers, more famous UK beat contemporaries. Now, fast forward 30 years or so. A group of punk R’n’B upstarts (including one Mr. Billy Childish), wearing ludicrous headgear, with a Milkshakes and Mighty Caesars pedigree are wowing the seething mass of young, uncouth, eccentric garage-heads at venues all over the country, and in the USA, and in Japan. Today Chatham, tomorrow the world! Thee Headcoats had kicked at the same locked doors as the Downliners Sect had before them, but now had found the key to success. Now, fast forward again. What if the now greying original Sectarians were to team up with the upstart Headcoats? Pit these seasoned R&B icons against the punk energy of their bastard children, let ’em sink their still healthy choppers into some of Childish’s brash, biting material and capture the whole mess on tape with as little technological interference as possible. It couldn’t be anything less brilliant! And it wasn’t. That was the Frankenstein’s Monster of British Garage’s first outing, in 1996. Now for the second time, lock up your daughters, fasten your deerstalker, and enjoy the irreverent spirit, and wicked sense of humour and irony that lives on in THEE HEADCOAT SECT!!!

HOLLY GOLIGHTLY - 'LAUGH IT UP'

DAMGOOD260CD - CD

Details
Holly Golightly (real name) started her musical career as a founder member of all girl garage band Thee Headcoatees, a Billy Childish / Thee Headcoats splinter group in 1991. She spent four years as a Headcoatee before breaking away to release her debut record, The Good Things, in 1995. Where the Headcoatees sound was a blend of girl group sounds and three-chord garage-rock with all the original songs coming from the pen of Billy Childish, Holly's solo sound is more a blend of pre-rock electric blues, folk rock, and less frantic rock & roll. Holly GolightlyApart from the wide range of covers of such artists as Willie Dixon, Ike Turner, Lee Hazelwood, Wreckless Eric, and Bill Withers, Golightly also writes all her own material. Holly Golightly is definitely the most interesting and diverse artist to come out of the Billy Childish school and is certainly one of the better singer/songwriters of the post-grunge era who gets better with every album. Since her debut in 1995, Golightly has been very prolific, releasing 13 long play records and loads of singles for a wide variety of labels as well as touring America eight times as well as Australia & Europe. Holly's sound has remained remarkably consistent throughout, but each record has a quality that sets it apart from the others. In 1999 she released an album with her friend Billy Childish, on which the two sound like a scuffed-up British version of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. Another is 'Truly She Is None Other' probably her most successful so far, it also featured the song 'Tell Me Now So I Know' which was picked for the main title theme for Jim Jarmushs movie starring Bill Murray 'Broken Flowers'. There's also a great compilation of all her singles and E.P's called Single's Round-Up. Her latest release is the mid-price sampler 'My First Holly Golightly Album' which is a great way to sample her songs, most of which feature in her live sets. Over the years Holly has been guest vocalist on various other bands projects, including live with Mudhoney, on a couple of Green Hornes releases and on a couple of Rocket From The Crypt tracks including their hit single 'Lipstick'. After playing several west coast shows with The White Stripes, and supporting them at their some of their London shows, Holly has become good friends with Jack and Meg, recording a duet with them at Toe Rag Studios called It's true that we love one another, for the final track on their classic album 'Elephant' Holly has recently recorded a duet with Mikabomb on the track 'Won't Go Out' (a Holly song) on their new album 'Hellcats' (Damgood 241)

WILD BILLY CHILDISH & THE CHATHAM SINGERS - 'HEAVEN'S JOURNEY'
Formats
DAMGOOD255CD - CD

Details
Although playing and recording blues for over a quarter of a century, this is the first LP Mister Childish has made in this genre in for several years. As well as featuring great tunes, Heavens Journey also serves as a showcase for many new poems that have been recorded by this legendary painter, writer and musician. On this outing Billy is accompanied by his wife Julie on backing vocals and bass guitar. Julie is American by birth and her father’s family are free Blacks and Winyah Indians from North Carolina. On drums we have Billy’s friend Wolf, who has collaborated with Billy for the past 15 years, most notably with his ‘dustbin mod’ group The Buff Medways. Sitting in on Harp is ‘Bludy’ Jim, an old friend since the punk days. Heavens Journey’ is a great introduction to The Blues and poetry of Billy Childish and shows his versatility and unique position in writing and music: An anachronism who is forever influencing the world of contemporary art and music. As ever, these recordings are sophisticated, homemade and primitive, which Billy explains is ‘the only way to connect with the heart. Heaven’s Journey certainly achieves that in spades.
