Dormancy comes in many forms. For some it is a break from the world of stress and the constant demands one finds oneself under. For others it is a much needed respite from the grind, a time to disengage from the wheel and collect oneself for the next challenge. If The Sun Dies, Greg Weeks’ seventh release, is a signal that his respite is over. Pursuing creativity once again, Weeks finds himself in a period of explosive productivity. He has written an enormous number of songs over the past few years, enough to fuel five separate projects, including If The Sun Dies. In addition, he has rebuilt his Hexham Head Studio (still all analog, still twenty-four tracks) and resuscitated his label Language Of Stone (sans imprint status). If The Sun Dies, which takes its title from an Oriana Fallaci novel, is every bit a Weeks album: cryptic-poetic lyrics over melancholic melodies strummed on acoustic guitar and ornamented with the analog instruments he has forever treasured (Hammond Organ, Mellotron, Mini-Moog, and effects-laden guitars). However, the album feels like a departure, a maturation in both content and approach despite its many echoes from the past. The album’s running thread is melancholia, but lyrically the tunes couldn’t be more disparate. “If The Sun Dies” is an anthem that posits the end of things being the only means by which two people can find time to truly connect. “The Heathen Heart” speaks to one’s desire for salvation yet underscores a different, more frightening reality. The more narrative “A Narrow Star” follows a young woman’s journey into entropy, while “Tail Lights Burn The Hillside Red” explores the depression that likely drove her there. Shifting gears, “Dream You Awake” investigates the more archetypal territory of the star-crossed lovers, while “Driven” attempts, unsuccessfully, to put the genie back into the bottle. “Ridley Street,” a song about a stalker, is juxtaposed to “Rainless,” a song that believes in the transcendent power of love. While “A Million Ways To Die” and “Gone Darkside” tread quite literal territory, the album’s closer, “What It Takes” questions identity in the face of pharmaceuticals. Taken in total, the album amounts to a complete return to form.

BRYONY PURDUE - 'DRIPFEED'

Details
After over a decade of international touring and nearly three years since its recording, critically acclaimed Scottish born artist Bryony unveils her debut album 'Dripfeed' – a stunning 15-year musical distillation that transforms personal trespasses into transcendent art. The self-released,self-produced album represents a bold artistic statement from an artist who has already graced stages from Edinburgh to Canada and collaborated with global superstars. 'Dripfeed' emerges as a genre-defying masterpiece that seamlessly weaves together influences spanning Radiohead's experimental textures, Cocteau Twins' ethereal atmospherics, and the hypnotic grooves of Massive Attack and Portishead. Bryony's distinctive approach incorporates live strings, chromatic harmonica, analog synths, and reverberating acoustic textures to create what she describes as "the liminal space between genres" – a dreamscape that recalls the romantic nostalgia of Fleetwood Mac filtered through the contemporary sensibilities of Weyes Blood and the experimental depth of Pink Floyd. The album's sonic palette draws from Bryony's extensive musical vocabulary, incorporating cross rhythms reminiscent of Tool's progressive complexity alongside the elegant simplicity of folk traditions. Her haunting female vocals navigate between the intimate vulnerability of Lana Del Rey's 'Norman Fucking Rockwell' era and the ethereal sophistication of artists like Air and Morcheeba, while maintaining a distinctly British sensibility that echoes through every track. "Spanning 15 years, 'Dripfeed' distills the experience of getting totally lost down the rabbit hole of my early twenties," Bryony explains. "In working on this album I have inadvertently taken back the reins of my life after assault and learned so much about so much. I'm lucky I had music to draw out most of the poison of some of the less than happy moments and I hope this music can do that for others too." This deeply personal journey manifests in music that builds with hypnotic intensity – moving from calm, acoustic textures through mid-tempo explorations to moments of profound emotional catharsis. The album functions as both protest song and love letter, ambient soundscape and rock anthem, always maintaining the elegant, emotive quality that has made Bryony a sought-after collaborator and performer. Bryony's credentials speak to her artistic versatility and industry recognition. She has appeared on the legendary 'Under The Apple Tree' sessions with 'Whispering' Bob Harris, and in 2025 alone, provided vocals for Ed Sheeran's tracks 'Azizam' and 'Sapphire' while opening Glastonbury Festival on the Pyramid Stage alongside the Citizens of the World choir. Her decade-plus of international touring has honed a live sound that captures the album's intricate arrangements while maintaining the raw emotional power that defines her artistry. The album's title track serves as both mission statement and healing anthem, embodying Bryony's philosophy of gradual, intentional transformation. Like the slow, steady process that gives the album its name, 'Dripfeed' reveals its depths through repeated listening, with each track offering new textural discoveries and emotional revelations. With its combination of vintage analog warmth and contemporary production sophistication, 'Dripfeed' positions Bryony as a significant new voice in the neo-folk and alternative music landscapes. The album stands as testament to the transformative power of art, offering listeners a chance to experience their own healing through Bryony's carefully crafted sonic journey.

POLYPORES - 'HUNGRY VORTEX'

Details
Final LP of a productive year for Feral Child is an absolute cracker. The latest of a long line of superb full lengths from Stephen James Buckley's incendiary Polypores project. This one is arguably his most adventurous outing to date, the undeniably psychedelic “Hungry Vortex”. Four extended pieces exploring polyrhythmic fixations and cosmic jazz-prog freak-outs. Percussion-heavy opener ‘The Body Is The Spaceship’ is a fine example of the sort of seamless organic growth we tend to see in Polypores’ music, with slewed synth blips and rolling polyrhythms gradually twisting into unrecognisable strands of melody and unconventional groove before your very ears. The prog-heavy ‘Wizards!’ sees Buckley’s trademarked playful use of time-signature changes, providing such a wealth of emotional and stylistic variance and immeasurable enjoyment without changing key once (honestly, who needs keys). It’s brilliantly evocative too and could indeed perfectly soundtrack a mushroom-trip wizard march. As we flip the record over, the flutey flourishes and minimalist clicks of the title track draw the listener into a trancelike state, repeated movements spiralling like myriad creatures crawling over a candy-coloured horizon, echoing forth into an inviting sonic oblivion. It’s ostensibly electronic, yet somehow more natural organism than machine, with little concern for the grid, or indeed, the rules. Finally, we end on something a little more subdued - the reassuring classicism of the beautiful ‘Void High’, with washes of warm noise and wobbly delay lines whirring and twinkling away, closing the record with an experience that is undeniably emotional, spiritual and as always, uniquely Polypores. This is a wonderful record with which to close the year out, it comes in a magnificent, spot varnished Jake Blanchard sleeve. A superb record released as a one time only vinyl pressing.

MATT KIVEL - 'ESCAPE FROM L.A.'
Formats
ST71 - LP

Details
Kurt Vile once sang that he had a freeway in mind, but Matt Kivel (Vile’s former Woodsist labelmate) literally has a freeway mind. Kivel grew up in Santa Monica, California, getting shuttled up and down the 10, the 101, PCH, and all the other freeways Angelenos lovingly affix definite articles to. He started out in music as part of the buzzy, Eagle Rock-based indie band Princeton, toured the country relentlessly, burned out, and then resurfaced with a series of bleak, hauntingly spare solo albums that garnered widespread critical acclaim. Over the ensuing decade, Kivel collaborated closely with a growing set of brilliant, and varied musicians from across the globe, including Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Alasdair Roberts, Madi Diaz, Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Jana Horn, and Satomimagae. He moved to Austin, Texas then left for New York City for a spell and then returned to Austin where he settled down. In 2017, he started writing the songs for what would become his eighth solo album, Escape From L.A. Escape From L.A. is an autobiographical song cycle that chronicles the first thirty-three years of Kivel’s life in the City of Angels. The material was labored over, rewritten, rearranged, and rerecorded numerous times, between LA, New York, and Austin. Kivel self-effacingly refers to it as his “bootleg as hell Blood On The Tracks” with myriad alternate sequences, tempos and arrangements that will never see the light of day. It involved over twenty collaborators, a string section, pedal steel guitars, and a renewed lyrical and vocal clarity that allows the narrative vignettes to unspool in vivid detail. It’s a beautiful, grounded statement and one of Kivel’s best.

MANIZEH - 'MAHKU'

LTR056 - LP

Details
Manizeh Rimer, founder of London’s Love Supreme Projects, announces her debut album Mahku, releasing on vinyl and all digital platforms on December 5, 2025 via LEITER. A bold contribution to contemporary spiritual jazz, the album was co-produced by LEITER labelmate ganavya – who recently released the celebrated Daughter of a Temple and Nilam. Recorded in early 2025 at LEITER’s Funkhaus Studio in Berlin, Mahku features eight chants, including a reimagined version of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide, with ganavya appearing on three tracks. The album brings together a stellar cast: Grammy-nominated Jai Uttal; bassists Ben Hazleton and Doug Weiss; harpist Miriam Adefris; pianist Jay Verma; and Manizeh‘s teenage daughter, Mahku Rimer, on vocals and guitar. Tracks range from a 3,000-year-old Zoroastrian prayer (‘Ashem Vohu’) to Sanskrit and Buddhist mantras (‘Asato Ma’, ‘Gate Gate Paragate’) to the devotional ‘Avan’s Sita Ram’, dedicated to Manizeh‘s late mother. Mahku means “eclipse” and is also the name of Manizeh’s grandmother. Developed from her long-standing chanting practice and deep creative partnership with ganavya, the album opens and closes with three generations of women’s voices, exploring music as a timeless, intergenerational loop. Recorded in a space Manizeh describes as “suspending you in an infinite river of time,” Mahku is both personal ritual and universal offering, flowing through lineage, loss, and love.
