MOSES YOOFEE TRIO - 'OCEAN'

REPRESS ALERT *NEW BARCODE* Having built an impressive following on the back of live performances and social media, Berlin’s Moses Yoofee Trio shared their impatiently awaited debut mini-album Ocean in November 2023. Released by Nils Frahm’s LEITER label, it contains five tracks and was praised by the press and audiences alike. The trio – just awarded with the German Jazz Prize as Live Act of The Year – is now responding to constant requests and releasing their acclaimed debut in a limited edition on vinyl. The trio – pianist/keyboardist/producer Moses Yoofee, bassist Roman Klobe-Barangă and drummer Noah Fürbringer – has lit up Europe’s clubs and venues over recent years with astonishing, almost obscenely tight live shows. Turning as much to RnB, hip hop and soul as more traditional jazz sources, the tunes on Ocean reflect the spontaneity, inspiration and instinctive refinement of their performances. The deliciously frantic title track and increasingly ecstatic ‘Minor Issues’ stand in stark contrast to ‘At Ease’’s restrained complexity, while ‘Fragile’’s hypnotic rhythm betrays their love of hip-hop and the lush ‘Richmond’ is driven by a deliciously low-strung groove before shifting up a gear for its climax. “Everybody loves fusion,” the band agree, “even if they don’t admit it,” but that’s only one element of the trio’s sophisticated style, with Moses’ exceptional keyboard skills illuminated by Roman’s fluid bass lines and Noah’s eloquent drum patterns. This summer and fall sees the trio return to the live stage, they are confirmed for a number of headliner shows and festivals such as Way Out West in the UK or renowned Enjoy Jazz in Heidelberg. And alongside numerous other activities – Moses Yoofee and Roman Klobe are also touring with German platinum-selling artist Peter Fox of the similarly successful band Seeed – the trio is already working on new material. Stay tuned. “Ocean is a treasure of an album. Populated by the calibre of musicianship that people dream of but more than that, and more importantly, the music communicated speaks directly to your soul.” Magazine Sixty “Please listen to it... the Ocean EP of the Moses Yoofee Trio is energetic, compelling, full of joy of playing, jazz from Berlin. Proof that piano trios can be extremely exciting.” - JazzThing “Drummer Noah Fürbinger’s immaculately crisp groove playing is derived from a blend of funk, hiphop and broken beat while Roman Klobe’s snakingly funky electric bass adds an underlying subsonic dimension. It’s a relevant combination that makes young Moses Yoofee a name to look out for in the future.” - Jazzwise

IVAN THE TOLERABLE & BHAJAN BHOY - 'INFINITE SPACE'

Formats
  • SBR105 - LP
Details

BACK INSTOCK! Ivan The Tolerable Trio are back with an alternate version to the amazing Infinite Peace. 2 epic tracks to take you away into infinite space! "When we went in to ATA studios in Leeds to record the Infinite Peace LP - it was always the plan to have two versions of the album - a straight mix that documented what we actually recorded there in its pure form and another version that would rearrange everything into a new shape. Once the LP was out, I passed all the stems to my old pal/former bandmate and frequent collaborator Ajay Saggar (Bhajan Bhoy/King Champion Sounds/University Challenged) and asked him to remix it in a way that sounded nothing like the original record. Its a much more ambient and floaty affair - more Popol Vuh than Sun Ra a full drift spread across two 22 minute suites. This is what he did - infinite space - we hope you like it." DEMIAN - 'S/T'

*GREEN VINYL* "The Bad Seeds and Zakary Thaks were mid ‘60s Texas garage rock bands formed in the wake of the British Invasion, influenced by The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Yardbirds and others, becoming top local live attractions at a time when the 13th Floor Elevators and Moving Sidewalks were leading the way into psychedelia. In late 1966 Rod Prince on guitar and Roy Cox on bass from Bad Seeds joined up with David Fore from Zakary Thaks on drums to create a new band out of San Antonio featuring two lead guitarists. Todd Potter filled out the quartet on second guitar and they chose the name Bubble Puppy, taken from Aldous Huxley’s 1932 dystopian novel Brave New World. Huxley was an early advocate of LSD, appropriately. In 1969 Bubble Puppy scored a top 20 hit single with “Hot Smoke & Sasafrass” which led to their LP “A Gathering Of Promises”. International Artists, the legendary Texas label that previously had unleashed mind expanding classics by the Elevators, Red Crayola, Golden Dawn and others was a perfect fit. After the LP and additional 45s didn’t repeat the success of “Hot Smoke & Sasafrass” the band hooked up with Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf as their new manager and moved to Los Angeles. A new band name was in order, Nick St. Nicholas chose Demian, title of the 1919 novel by Herman Hesse. His books were popular with the counterculture at the time and had provided Steppenwolf with their new name after they changed it from the Sparrow and hit it big. Demian recorded the LP live in the studio at the Record Plant in one midnight to six session. They had their arrangements fully realized, allowing them to combine live show energy and economy with to-the-point delivery suitable for repeated listening. No doubt they were aiming for pop hit success, using proto hard rock skills in a radio friendly way without compromising the heavy guitar moves. The vocals have echoes of the earlier Bubble Puppy style in spots but are more melodic with vibrant harmonies reminiscent of Moby Grape, Buffalo Springfield, James Gang… at times flashing on Steve Stills/Richie Furay westcoast without being too sweet about it. It works terrifically when the radio friendly voices top off killer hard guitar ensemble action. Early hard rock that is too bluesy flashy can get tiresome with repeat listening, especially if overdosing on guitar solos with the band relegated to the background… Demian keep it interesting with inventive song structures allowing all four players to integrate constantly into an ever changing but focused whole. This LP is a grower, despite the basic two guitars, bass and drums lineup and no frills production you reach a lot of different places during the ride. Demian is deadly hard rock, a perfectly organized vibe straddling live energy and crafted itinerary, amongst the first obscure major label killers that commanded premium $$ with collectors even way back in the late ‘70s. It gets you there every time, even half a century later!"

KANDODO - 'SOLSTICE / DUB'

Formats
  • CFUL0354 - LP
Details

Black vinyl in black poly lined Inners. Screen printed outer sleeves on different colour card stock front and back. From the psychedelic shack in Northumberland, Simon Price (kandodo) has spent two years coaxing these sounds into being, eighty minutes, four sides, each a branch reaching out from the same shimmering sonic tree. A slow unfurling of heady drift and cosmic fuzz, the sound bending like light across the equinox, refracted through delays, flanges and fuzz until it folds in on itself. Hugo Morgan (the heads) joins on low-end duties, sending tremors through the deep ether where the basslines anchor the drift, turning the horizon to liquid and the floor to vibration Four longform trips, each a 20-minute drift through the same solar pulse seen from different angles, all refracted through a sike sonic toolbox. A headphone treat at 20,000 feet or cranked loud on the stereo. They’re glimmering portals, longform meditations, head-expanding drift zones to lose yourself in, built for the hour when everything dissolves, preferably at 2AM, lights low, synapses wide open, the turntable spinning like a slow planet. Each side a transmission that captures the same essence but from a different vantage point. ‘Solstice’ brings the march of fuzz, tremeloes pulling you under. The dub burns with the bright hum of eternal noons and shards of phased harmonics. ‘Dusk’ slinks into the cool breath of the coming dark. ‘Dawn’ lets slip earthly bounds and shimmers into deep space, going beyond beyond. Dubbed, delayed, distorted, this is kandodo in full expansion mode, an an aural equinox, a sonic solstice, a total double dissolver. One pulse, four horizons, infinite zones. Drop the needle, watch time blur and dive deep. See yous on the other side.

NOMAD WAR MACHINE AND SUSAN ALCORN - 'CONTRA MADRE'

Formats
  • VG+09 - LP
    769152435596
Details

The late pedal-steel guitarist Susan Alcorn leaves a final surprise hinting at new directions left underexplored on her collaboration with Nomad War Machine, the improvising metal duo of drummer Julius Masri and guitarist James Reichard. Their death-metal-influenced pummel adds new fire to her molten flow across a suite of improvised tracks that show off the vast range and simpatico of the trio. Julius Masri and James Reichard of Nomad War Machine: “An unexpected opportunity arose out of a catching-up conversation where Susan had revealed a recent fascination with death metal, confessing, ‘I’m 70 years old—I think about death!’ She had learned a couple of Arch Enemy songs on her pedal steel, particularly compelled by their frontwoman’s intensity and vigor as a performer. Voicing an appreciation for the hook-oriented sound of Swedish death metal made sense for a melodic thinker whose roots as veteran pedal steel player reached into the Texan Western swing circuit in the ’60s and ’70s. For her, ever the explorer, metal was a new, appealing point of departure into fresh musical territory. When she expressed an interest in playing with Nomad War Machine, it felt like there was a whole world of shared or complementary interests to explore.” Though known for her fluency in jazz, country, and free improvisation, Alcorn had also studied Arabic, the oud, and maqam, with all holding a deep curiosity for her. Pre-’70s country & western music had also been a lifelong presence for both members Nomad War Machine. Masri, a Lebanese free-jazz and metal drummer, and devoted fan of Texas swing legends like Speedy West, Jimmy Bryant, Leon Rhodes, and Joe Maphis, was also steeped in Arabic music traditions. James Reichard, before coming to “freely” improvised metal, xenharmonic music, and non-Western tuning systems, had grown up being subjected to countless singalongs to numerous pre-’70s country records, entranced by the pedal steel.

Ushering in a new era, Berlin based, New Zealand heavy psych duo Earth Tongue lower the castle gates on their third album Dungeon Vision, a trove of fuzz-drenched anthems produced by garage rock luminary Ty Segall in Los Angeles. Guitarist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons spent the Berlin winter of 2025 refining the album’s twelve tracks in their self-described “windowless cave” rehearsal space, crafting a record that channels both isolation and the duo’s live intensity. With the songs finally taking shape and a studio deadline looming, they flew to Los Angeles to turn their hard-won ideas into the real thing. Once there, the band and Ty captured lightning in a bottle, recording and mixing Dungeon Vision in just ten days at Altamira Sound. Tracked live to tape, Dungeon Vision pulses with human energy, fuzz guitars, bone-battering drums, and hauntingly tuneful vocals. Ty Segall’s influence is all over the record with Ty choosing the best takes based on feel rather than technical perfection. The “king of fuzzy guitar tones” pushed the duo to find new sonic textures while championing their raw chemistry. “Ty’s been a big driving force,” says Ezra. “We supported him in New Zealand back in 2023, and he’s backed us ever since even bringing us on tour through Europe and the UK in 2024.” Since their emergence in 2016, Earth Tongue’s world-building, visuals, and relentless touring have earned them global attention and a cult-like following. Their 2024 album Great Haunting, also released on In The Red Records, received a Taite Music Prize nomination and saw them win Best Group at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards. They’ve toured extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, IDLES, Acid King, Brant Bjork and Kikagaku Moyo. With Dungeon Vision, Earth Tongue deliver their most immersive work yet, a richly human, fuzz-soaked journey that bottles the magic of their live show and cements their reputation as one of the most exciting psych rock acts on the planet.

CISTERN - 'RHIZOME'

Formats
  • MM13 - LP
    5061041821509
Details

In contrast to the band's previous release, New Standard, which was written around a central theme, Rhizome opens the field to many different but resonating voices. A rhizome is a root system with no established hierarchy - every part of the rhizome is equally a start and a beginning - and the songs on this album follow this same theme. There is no dominating concept but it is a tapestry of connected ideas. Picture four friends writing bits of songs and then cutting, stitching and sewing them back together. A rhizome is also an analogy for constructing social territories that resist hierarchical organization - a theme explored in some of the lyrics and also an ethos in the way the band attempts to operate. The album was written during the second half of 2024, with songs originating from 3 different songwriters. The writing process usually involved jamming and iterating on an initial rough idea until something started to take shape, with parts being added and worked out in a group setting. Most of the lyrics followed the music, and were primarily written by a single member which resulted in a wide variety of themes and ideas. The album’s first song “Illusion” alludes to the ways we are deceived by institutions and the lack of empathy shown by those in positions of power. Songs like “In it”, “Volcano” and “Ephemeral” touch on love and personal relationships. “Ego” and “Silent Seed” are songs of self-reflection and meditations on how we should live. “Apology” was inspired by a story of an anonymous apology hotline. “Stimulants”, the album’s final track, is a reflection on how we use substances to alter our perception and a response to the ongoing opioid crisis. The album was recorded live off the floor to tape (with added overdubs) in August 2024 in the studio of friend and collaborator, Mikhail Oreskov. The band’s concept for the production of the album was to try to stay true to a live band sound with limited use of heavy handed post processing, keeping sounds clear and relatively dry to allow the song writing and playing to shine. It was mixed by Michael Halls and mastered by Mikey Young. Teetering between post-punk, indie rock and pop, Rhizhome has many voices, many directions, and is a mosaic not of starts or endings but of becomings.

GONDHAWA - 'TAKOMA'

Formats
  • SBR122 - LP (COLOURED)
    5060853706110
Details

INSTOCK French power trio Gondhawa return with TÄKOMĀ, a frenetic blast of oriental psych rock that barrels through microtonal madness and eastern-tinged grooves with unrestrained energy. Recorded at Studio Adjololo (Tinariwen, Omar Sosa, Tamikrest), this is the sound of a band pushing deeper into their singular vision. It's been a journey since Gondhawa's debut Käampäla landed on Stolen Body Records in 2021, followed by the Mäanthagorī EP in 2022. In that time, they've become one of the most exciting live acts in the European psych scene, captured perfectly in their incendiary KEXP session and Astral Radio's Astral Session. Now they're back with their most ambitious statement yet. Idriss Besselièvre, Clément Pineau, and Paul Adamczuk weave microtonal guitars, Mongolian sanxian, and crushing rhythms into something that sits perfectly between King Gizzard's experimental edge, Mdou Moctar's desert fury, and the psychedelic propulsion of Goat. These tracks are direct, effective, and rootsy - the band's signature catchy melodies and odd time signatures intact, but sharper. Mixed by Eliott Achard & Steven Ludard at Studio La Cuve and mastered by Peter Deimel at Black Box Studio, TÄKOMĀ captures the raw power of Gondhawa's explosive live show while expanding their sonic palette into wilder territory. Since that breakthrough KEXP session at Transmusicales 2022, Gondhawa have torn through 50+ European shows, spreading their "Gondhawii" universal language across France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Italy.

IVAN THE TOLERABLE TRIO - 'INFINITE PEACE'

Details

BACK INSTOCK! Out on limited edition eco double gatefold vinyl. Vinyl will vary in colour. This album began as a pipedream about 5 years ago and became reality in the Summer of 2023. I've been a huge fan of ATA Records for years now and have wanted to record at the ATA Studio for equally as long, but I had found out that it no longer operated as a commercial studio and just served as a place where Neil (Innes, ATA head honcho and member of Work, Money, Death/The Sorcerers) could record his own music for his label. So I gave up on the idea of ever going there.... Then, randomly, I met Neil through work in early 2023 and we had a long chat about our mutual love of Pharoah Sanders/Alice Coltrane and library music. He agreed to let me hire his studio for 1 day only (he's a very busy guy!) and he would track whatever we could get down in a day. We had to make it count. My live band had been rehearsing a lot around the Mme (as a trio for the first Mme, as Robbie was busy with his band Benefits) for a few gigs we had booked in so the week aaer those gigs seemed the best Mme to do it. The three of us (Ben, Neil and myself) trekked to Leeds early one May morning and played non-stop unMl 6pm - a mixture of new material we had been playing live, a bunch of improvised stuff we came up with on the day and a 10 minute jam around an Archie Shepp riff. Neil let us use anything we wanted which was amazing. All sorts of vintage keys and an ACTUAL MK1 MELLOTRON. Ooof! At 6 o clock we lea with the bulk of a double album in the bag. Madness. I tracked some guitars, synths and drones at home the following week while Neil added some extra percussion and that was it. It was mixed by Adam Ineson (who Neil and I play with in All Structures Align) The day we spent at ATA was - we all agreed - the best studio experience we had ever had. I generally shun studios in favour of recording all the ITT stuff myself to save hassle, Mme, money and having to deal with "studio people" but Neil was a JOY to work with - his passion and knowledge of his equipment is boundless. The finished LP, I reckon, is the best sounding record i've ever been involved in.

**AVAILABLE ON CLEAR GREEN VINYL** By the turn of the century, Radio Birdman was increasingly popular as a "legacy" band. Crowds were happy to hear their signature songs from the seventies and there were plenty of gigs. But the band wasn't satisfied. With a new drummer on board, they decided to write and record an album of all new original tracks. The result was the 2006 album "Zeno Beach". The album explored uncharted territory, with more members writing songs, and the performances reflected the band's musical evolution. Zeno Beach, long out of print and unavailable, has now been remastered for a high quality vinyl release. Top notch cutting by master engineer Levi Seitz and the highest quality pressing at Third Man has resulted in the best possible presentation of Zeno Beach, heard now as never before.
