Guitarist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons spent the Berlin winter of 2025 refining the album’s twelve tracks in their self-described “windowless cave” rehearsal space, crafting a record that channels both isolation and the duo’s live intensity. With the songs finally taking shape and a studio deadline looming, they flew to Los Angeles to turn their hard-won ideas into the real thing. Once there, the band and Ty captured lightning in a bottle, recording and mixing Dungeon Vision in just ten days at Altamira Sound. Tracked live to tape, Dungeon Vision pulses with human energy, fuzz guitars, bone-battering drums, and hauntingly tuneful vocals. Ty Segall’s influence is all over the record with Ty choosing the best takes based on feel rather than technical perfection. The “king of fuzzy guitar tones” pushed the duo to find new sonic textures while championing their raw chemistry. “Ty’s been a big driving force,” says Ezra. “We supported him in New Zealand back in 2023, and he’s backed us ever since even bringing us on tour through Europe and the UK in 2024.” Since their emergence in 2016, Earth Tongue’s world-building, visuals, and relentless touring have earned them global attention and a cult-like following. Their 2024 album Great Haunting, also released on In The Red Records, received a Taite Music Prize nomination and saw them win Best Group at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards. They’ve toured extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, IDLES, Acid King, Brant Bjork and Kikagaku Moyo. The opener, a hopped-up cover of obscure Sun Records tune “Bop Pills,” proves that rumors of amphetamine usage by the original Memphis rockabilly cats was not exaggerated, and sets the pace for the rest of the album. Hog-wild covers of “Shortninʼ Bread” and “Muleskinner Blues” probably have the original writers dancing on their graves, and The Cramps’ version of the perverse rarity “Her Love Rubbed Offʼ” shines a lurid spotlight on the only song that Carl Perkins was admittedly ashamed of writing. These, plus out-of-control ad-lib freakouts “Beautiful Gardens” and “She Said” (previously omitted due to legal restrictions) were recorded live at New Yorkʼs famous Peppermint Lounge. There is nothing like the sound of The Cramps, and this set distills that cross of swamp water, moonshine and nitro down to a dangerous and unstable musical substance, captured live like a crazed animal. They rocked like few others could. Additional bonus track “Surfinʼ Dead” was recorded at A&M Studios in Hollywood and originally appeared on the 1984 soundtrack for Return of the Living Dead—when asked to write a “pop song” for the movie, The Cramps (by then a three-piece) threw into their cauldron a mix of Link Wray, Jan & Dean, Davie Allen, The Righteous Brothers, bongos, Phil Spector and eye of newt.

The album was originally released incognito in cahoots with Ace Records in 1987 as a fake “limited-edition import” bootleg LP, and was intended to compete with the glut of unofficial Cramps recordings. The woman you hear screaming throughout the first half actually fainted when she stopped screaming! Included alongside other classic tunes are fractured versions of actual Elvis Presley hits “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Do the Clam” (angora angst written for Elvis by film-maker Ed Wood’s wife Dolores Fuller!). This release is recommended for those who wonder what it would sound like to hear a microphone thrown around and garbled into (Lux Interior was known to destroy a half dozen microphones in one night). The only album featuring The Cramps as a three-piece band (Poison Ivy doubled on bass), it careens from the sociopathic advice of “People Ainʼt No Good” (later covered by Nick Cave) to mind-on-vacation odes like “Aloha From Hell” and “Kizmiaz” (where The Cramps prove they were exotic when exotic wasnʼt cool), in the process offing more P.T.P. than you can shake a snake at and fittingly finishing off with a soulful lovesick cover of the Charlie Feathers’s “Itʼs Just That Song.” “Can Your Pussy Do The Dog” was voted single of the year for 1986 in Playboyʼs annual music issue!

I took the tapes home and ironed out some mutant tunes. Sound Records is proud to present Tremors in Copper, the debut full-length album from producer, composer and sound designer Jackson Almond. Born in Liverpool and formerly based in London, Almond has spent the past decade working across record shops, sound design and hardware instrument development while quietly building a catalogue of releases with Warner, BBE, Slowfoot, WotNot Music, XVI Records, Audio Doughnuts and Sounds of Sumo. His Open Your Head EP, the first released under his own name, received a 9/10 review from DJ Mag, who described it as "stunningly original", while Bandcamp praised his "knack for balancing hooks and earworms with original ideas and creative production." His work has been supported by BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, NTS, Worldwide FM and Balamii. After releasing a second vinyl EP, Take The Time, and a series of remixes, Almond stepped away from releasing music in 2019, relocating from London to the Gloucestershire countryside. Rather than chasing clout or momentum, he disappeared into the studio. Tremors in Copper is the result of that decision. Drawing together UK club music, folk traditions and contemporary composition, the album refuses easy categorisation. Hardware synthesis, tape processes, field recordings, guitars, clarinets, intricate tuned percussion and string arrangements processed through vintage digital effects create a world that feels simultaneously intimate and expansive. Echoes of trip-hop, broken beat, UK garage, house, IDM and ambient music surface throughout, but always in service of a singular musical voice rather than genre. The result is an album that is as compelling on a powerful sound system as it is through headphones: rhythmic and physical one moment, reflective and cinematic the next, exploring memory, connection and the traces people leave in one another. The release also marks Almond's return to live performance for the first time in over a decade. Alongside hardware-based electronic sets, selected performances will feature a bespoke electroacoustic installation of handmade resonant copper instruments performed with analogue synthesisers, tape machines and drum machines. Some more new music made with a system of hand-drawn, modular passages rearranged in coherent and incoherent signatures. The tracks of At the First Clear Sound are stubbornly absent of improvisation, solos, virtuosity, and compositional form while being full of naïveté, a harsh smoothness, an agitated calm, and inharmonic harmonics. Dazzled by the automatic nature of this modular technique Leimer worked quickly, choosing to respect his mistakes and question his choices. “As reliant as the music is on computers, samples, digital processing, and typing, this work is still rather imperfect, rather handmade. And, of course, my compulsion to work with infinitely pliant sound is now clearly bordering on mild psychosis.” Technically, there’s never a final mix. K. Leimer founded Palace of Lights in 1979. Leimer’s work has also been issued by Autumn, First Terrace, Les Giants, Invisible Inc., Origin Peoples, and RVNG. His early cassette work is included in the critically acclaimed VOD box set ‘American Cassette Culture’ and is included in Cherry Red’s ‘Noise Floor’ series. Leimer has been actively producing music since the mid 1970s—his current catalog includes solo albums, soundtracks, installations, and collaborative albums with Savant, Marc Barreca, Tyler Boley, and Three Point Circle. We are told his work is included in the collection of The British Library.
