THEE OH SEES - 'HELP'

ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS IN THE OH SEES BACK CATALOUGE! REPRESSED ON VIOLET COLOURED VINYL!  In The Red is having the finest form of any record label in many many years...and at the end of april will be releasing the new recordings from John Dwyer's combo...If you've followed the San Francisco underground for the past ten years, you might already be familiar with John Dwyer. Or-tastes depending-you might not know him at all. A friend and devotee of preeminent Providence noise rock act Lightning Bolt, the majority of Dwyer's repertoire falls on the indie spectrum's more visceral wavelengths. He was Pink in Pink and Brown, fronted Coachwhips, and played guitar in the dysfunctional Hospitals. If you're unfamiliar with or in search of a refresher, you can search YouTube for a crash course on any of these bands. Some popular tags are: "garage," "punk," and "sweat." If you like what you see, do yourself a favor and check out Dwyer's newest band, Thee Oh Sees. "Newest" because they've only been around for six albums-albeit in different incarnations, under several different names (OCS, the Oh Sees, et al.) with several different sounds. Formed in the wake of his more volatile commitments, Thee Oh Sees started as an extension of Dwyer's softer side. Their early recordings were somber and beautiful. Last year, Thee Oh Sees made an unexpected turn, delivering their wildest, weirdest, hardestrocking record yet with The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In. Now Thee Oh Sees have followed it with an even wilder, more hard-rocking record, Help. Recorded by Chris Woodhouse (the A-Frames, Mayyors), Help draws straight, dark lines to both the British psychedelic rock of bands like The Creation and the caveman thud of The Troggs while a Cramps-like appreciation for rockabilly lies not far below. The album weaves Dwyer's signature AM radio howl with the catchiest of driving tunes, Brigid Dawson's gorgeous harmonies, heightened fidelity, thick spring-reverbed bombast, mighty drums, and an undeniable pull. The result is a sound somewhere beyond nostalgia, beyond the garage, beyond the fireside song and supposed goo-rock. Modern rock 'n' roll records don't come much better than this and Thee Oh Sees are one of the best bands going.

FIREFRIEND - 'FUZZ'

Formats
  • CFLCR042 - LP (COLOURED)
Details

COLOURED ECO VINYL Firefriend Return With “FUZZ” — A Scorched-Earth, Sonic Manifesto From Brazil’s Psychedelic Underground São Paulo, Brazil – Fuzzed-out, fired-up, and fiercely unrelenting, Brazilian psychedelic rock group Firefriend unveil their latest full-length LP: “FUZZ” — built in the embers of a world unraveling, it's a wall of sound with intent — drenched in distortion, echoing with rebellion, and heavy with the beautiful chaos of now. Across searing guitar feedback, narcotic basslines, and trance-inducing rhythms, Firefriend constructs a world that teeters on the edge of collapse — and dares to find melody inside the wreckage. Songs pulse like electricity across concrete. There are no apologies here — only noise, atmosphere, and truth. “FUZZ evokes that searing noise that has echoed through rock records for decades,” says guitarist/vocalist Yury Hermuche. “It’s a sound that inevitably pulses with the same violence as the world we live in — increasingly chaotic, intense, full of surprises. I deeply admire artists who tell us about the brutal nature of their times. They’re the ones who draw me in, because they’re talking about reality — and how they dealt with it.” Bassist/vocalist Julia Grassetti adds, “The sound we’re chasing has this dynamic between transcendence and collapse. We’re after that pulse between explosive moments and more introspective ones. The sound of life — the sound of freedom.” A Political Pulse, A Global Noise Long known for their globally conscious, left-wing worldview, Firefriend continues to use music as a medium of resistance. Their psych isn’t escapism — it’s exposure. Through hypnotic repetition and blown-out frequencies, “FUZZ” draws a direct line from underground clubs in São Paulo to the struggles echoing worldwide — climate grief, social collapse, digital fatigue, authoritarian backlash. With this LP, Firefriend refuses silence. They crank the distortion, blow out the amps, and let the tension bleed through every track. About Firefriend One of the most revered acts in the modern psychedelic scene, Firefriend has amassed a cult following through years of relentless recording, international touring, and uncompromising art. Their influences are clear — Spacemen 3, Black Sabbath, John Coltrane, The Velvet Underground — but their vision is their own: intense, immersive, and politically tuned-in. “FUZZ” joins an already formidable discography, but carves its own place: a louder, darker, more defiant chapter in the Firefriend story.

THEE HEADCOATS - 'THE REASON WE DIDN'T SOUND LIKE THE SMITHS'

Details

Two new tracks by Thee Headcoats in a suitably Smiths-esque sleeve! A-side taken from their forthcoming LP Children Of The Sect B-side exclusive to this release We spoke with Billy Childish about the single… Did you like anything about The Smiths? Yes. Les Dawson's version of 'Girlfriend in a Coma.' (I think that's the right title.) I actually detested them, but they had a couple of alright song titles. Their guitarist came up and spoke to me one time we played with Modest Mouse at the Albert Hall with our 100 Watt PA and was very nice. There’s a picture of Dave Davies on sleeve. What is it that you most like about The Kinks? Have you ever met Ray or Dave? I was brought up listening to The Kinks in the 1960s, along with the Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. When I was asked to sing in the Pop Rivets, in 1977, I suggested we play 'Hippy Hippy Shake', 'Wild Thing' and 'You Really Got Me' - My favourite thing of the Kinks? I like the R&B Kinks? Dave's guitaring, and we all dig the great drummer and bass player and of course Ray's writes a good tune, so - what's not to love? Apart from a lot of it. I never met a real live Kink, but we knew a girl who saw them play at Rochester Odeon, she and her mates asked Dave for his autograph, and he chased them screaming up Star Hill with his tiny pride and joy hanging out.

DEAD SEA APES - 'PSYCHIC TENSION'

Formats
  • CFUL0356 - LP
Details

DEAD SEA APES are back with a fierce new album - PSYCHIC TENSION – an urgent soundtrack for the nerve-shredding times we live in. Our collective psyche is under attack, reeling from the chaos of a modern world under siege: from war, death, destruction and climate catastrophe to political decay, media manipulation, growing inequality and the rank depravity of the so-called elite. Do we overload ourselves with anxiety, vent our frustration at others, make token gestures to ease our conscience, or just try to carry on regardless? Dead Sea Apes have wrestled these dilemmas - this Psychic Tension - into sonic/musical form, creating catharsis from the chaos. Psychic Tension picks up where previous album Rewilding left off, carrying forward the momentum of massive riffs, juggernaut rhythms and squalling sonic overload. Noise rock, Japanese psych, minimal dub and electric Miles are all part of the mix: each member of Dead Sea Apes brings decades of musical exploration to bear on the music. The iterative repetition of Can meets the telepathic mind-meld of the power trio; the deceptive simplicity of Crazy Horse is pulled through the sonics of PSF Records; the live-in-the-practice-room energy is bolstered by layered landscapes of sound - from ethereal echoes to feedback drones to transistor-torturing lead lines. Dead Sea Apes have always followed their own path, the music instinctively imbued with their responses to the world around them. On Psychic Tension they have once again cooked up a sound that is wholly their own, speaking directly to the turmoil within us and surrounding us in these wild times. PSYCHIC TENSION is released 18th September 2026 on Cardinal Fuzz (UK) and Feeding Tube Records (USA).

The final studio album by Section 25, a band who have built a lasting legacy as one of Britain’s most important bands in electronic music. They were namechecked in LCD Soundsystem’s breakout single “Losing My Edge” and have been sampled extensively, including by Kanye West. The Certainty Of Machines is the last transmission. A collection of songs shaped by time, memory, machinery and the long shadow of a musical life. Alongside the album comes fVCk off - the companion mini autobiography by Vin Cassidy. Two sides of the same story. The records and the book are intended to be consumed together: the music as soundtrack, the words as evidence. Both trace the journey back to the early years - the people, places, noise, mistakes, obsessions and accidents that became a life in music. Available as a strictly limited silver vinyl edition, with the companion autobiography fVCk off. Also available on black vinyl with companion book download code, and CD. NOAH X PETTER - 'DRIFT'

Formats
  • LTR066 - LP

Details

The art of sampling is a delicate craft. Honing in on a gem, separating it from its context and flipping its sound to create something new, the sample brings a trace of the past into future creation. On the debut collaborative project between bassist and producer Petter Eldh and drummer Noah Fürbringer, DRIFT, the duo perfect their sampling expertise to produce six tracks of self-referential, career-spanning creations that break new ground across jazz, head-nodding hip-hop, frenetic dancefloor beats and textural electronics. The EP arrives across all digital platforms and on limited edition vinyl on November 6 via LEITER. Acclaimed for his improvisational agility, Berlin-based Swedish bassist Petter Eldh has spent the past two decades exploring the fertile fringes of Europe’s jazz scene, collaborating with the likes of British pianist Kit Downes, Swedish saxophonist Otis Sandsjö and playing as part of the avant-garde group ØKSE. It was between Projekt Drums albums in 2022 that Petter first met Berlin-based drummer and member of the virtuosic, German Jazz Award-winning Moses Yoofee Trio, Noah Fürbringer. Providing the rhythmic backbone and kinetic energy for MYT’s three releases to date, Noah has become a key anchoring point in the Berlin jazz scene thanks to his ability to effortlessly switch between complex beats and artful accompaniment. Meeting in Petter’s Prenzlauer Berg studio whenever the pair had time away from tours and other projects, they spent the next four years honing the hip-hop and dancefloor-referencing sounds of DRIFT. With each track running at under three minutes, the record develops the attention-grabbing quality of a mixtape, condensing the masterful improvisations of the pair’s jazz experience into bitesize yet deeply layered compositions. Already sitting on a stack of new music created after DRIFT, Noah and Petter are setting out on what will surely be a long and fruitful partnership. They also have plans to bring their compositions out of the studio and onto the live stage, both as a duo and as a backing band featuring the network of players they have come to know in cities across Europe. It’s material that could surely become a sample for something new, carrying on the never-ending loop of crafting beauty from beauty.

iO PAN - 'WHEN THE LID OPENS'

Formats
  • SNDREC008 - LP
    5061041822766
Details

In a world that buckles and cracks under our calamitous weight, something at once old and beautiful, bitter and malign, stirs just a shade below what can be seen. It had dreamt of the end of things, and tasted there sweet emptiness, but now a new hominid stench has disturbed its slumber. So keenly it ponders, un-lidding an eye, and within each potent coil desires fester, many and urgent. And so it untangles, and organises, and lurches upwards like a whale; bloated, rotten and desperate to breathe. Emily and Joe have caught glimpses of that which lurks beneath. As each has struggled to make sense of what they have seen, they have been dragged inexorably into a frightening new reality; a shadow world of lurid horrors, where nothing is as it ought to be. Yet they have witnessed great beauty too, a joy stark and profound, and an addiction is growing. iO Pan is about a love for that special era in the UK dance music scene that from the late 1980s onwards mixed funk, soul, hip-hop, electro, reggae, dub and Jamaican sound system culture together with the freshest dance music coming out of Chicago, Detroit, Belgium and Italy. A unique melting pot that would lead to some of the most original and groundbreaking musical movements the world has ever seen in Bleep, Breakbeat, Hardcore, Jungle and Dub Step. iO Pan is an artist, musician and DJ who has presented live art at the Barbican Centre, the Open Data Institute, the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths University. As a musician, iO Pan has supported the Arctic Monkeys and worked with the Human League, and with the track ‘Forever’, reached number 5 in the Mixmag Ibiza chart. As a DJ iO Pan was a resident for legendary Sheffield clubs Gatecrasher, The Leadmill and Plug throughout the 90s. iO Pan now presents the full-length album When The Lid Opens on Sound Records whose roster includes KiF Productions, Benyayer, Yarni and Lara Jones.

**On Smoky Ice Blue Vinyl** Here Be Monsters is an album from the tail end of Kenneth Kapstad’s tenure in the band. After working with Thomas Henriksen as mix engineer on Still Life With Eggplant, Behind The Sun, The Motorpnakotic Fragments and En Konsert For Folk Flest, the band was by 2015, ready to try working with him as a producer. Based on music written for the 200 anniversary of the Norsk Teknisk Museum, Here Be Monsters mainly focused on stately, slow and epic music with the external calm and the wonderful 1973 hi-fi estethics of a Dark Side Of The Moon or other albums of that time and ilk, with the usual motorpsychodelic fire just occasionally showing through. An exercise in measured, contained emotion, it was a huge contrast to earlier explosive efforts by this line-up of the band, and even shortened to a single disc album, it wasn’t an album that exactly ‘rocked out’, but one that showed a different, more tactile side of the band. The title track was even deemed a step too far into the fog, and was eventually taken off the album and released on it’s own as a stand alone ‘tour special’ LP. With the title track reinstated and for the first time claiming it’s rightful place in the running order, Here Be Monsters the album is finally complete and whole. Now you can join the band as they go all the way up river to the heart of chaos…
