Norwegian instrumental rockers 1099 have been around for over ten years. Two EPs were released in the late part of the 2000s before their debut album, the self-titled «1099», arrived in February 2013, both digital and on vinyl. 1099`s second album «Young Pines» was released digitally in February – and now the double LP edition will be available from late August. It encompasses eight tracks for a total of over an hour`s worth of music. On this record the band wanted extra focus on melodies and structure, but without compromising the dynamics and huge sound they are known for. Early reviews have noted the ever-changing palette in moods and sounds on the album, this being a testament to the variation and creativity found on «Young Pines». «Young Pines» was recorded and mixed in their hometown Trondheim by Håkon Aaltvedt (Tuna Laguna), and produced by 1099 and Aaltvedt. The album was mastered at Golden Mastering in California. 1099 is drummer Pål Leer, bassist Lars-Erik Berg, and guitarists Anders Kalland and Kristian Krokfoss. As per usual the band asked good friends and musicians to contribute to the record. Nikolai Sødahl plays the electric piano, and Jørund Waagø adds strings, as well as vocals and additional guitars. Kåre Kolve - the jazz saxophonist famous from Mezzoforte, Lava and his own band - adds saxophones and flutes to several of the tracks, giving them a distinct sound different from almost any other music in the same genre. «Young Pines» will be released on vinyl in early September through the band`s own label «-lyte», and distributed throughout Europe by «Stickman Records».
